SummaryEdit

Yami Yugi has just Set his trump card, "Swords of Revealing Light", after PaniK's attempt to destroy it using "Reaper of the Cards" backfired and it ended up trapped in "Spellbinding Circle". Yugi says that the flames that will dispel the shadows are aimed right at PaniK, and that he has four turns left. PaniK activates the flamethrowers on his side of the field, launching them near Yugi, but Yugi is unfazed, which aggravates PaniK even more. Téa and Mai comment that although PaniK had the advantage in the shadows, Yugi's words have thrown him off his game and allowed Yugi to fight back. (In the dub, Téa hopes that Yugi knows that he is playing with fire, and Mai comments on how PaniK enjoys breaking his opponents.) Yugi taunts PaniK even more, calling him a coward who is afraid to even draw a card.

PaniK draws and begins cackling, saying that he drew his strongest card. He Summons "King of Yamimakai", the first monster that PaniK named since he Summoned "Castle of Dark Illusions". He says that he will destroy Yugi before he can even play his trump card, and orders "King of Yamimakai" to attack Yugi's Defense Position "Curse of Dragon" with "Electro-Shock Attack". However, the attack of "Yamimakai" veers away and instead hits the "Reaper of the Cards", destroying it. PaniK realizes that since the "Reaper" was trapped in "Spellbinding Circle", its light drew in the attack of "Yamimakai". Since the "Reaper" was PaniK's monster, he is dealt a huge amount of battle damage, dropping his Life Points to 494.

On Yugi's turn, he declares that he will activate his trump card, and flips up "Swords of Revealing Light". A massive beam of light illuminates the whole field, dispelling the shadows created by "Castle of Dark Illusions" and making PaniK's hidden monsters visible. In addition, the normal effect of the "Swords" prevents PaniK from attacking for three turns. Yugi holds up three fingers and declares that PaniK has three turns left.

PaniK thinks to himself that even if Yugi were to prepare an attack, his field is still full of monsters with a Field Power Bonus from the night, and that even if "Curse of Dragon" destroys one of them, he will still be able to defeat Yugi. PaniK considers that Yugi might summon a stronger monster on his next turn, and has to be prepared. He draws and begins gloating again, declaring that Yugi can no longer defeat him in three turns. He activates the card he drew, "Chaos Shield". He combines it with "Castle of Dark Illusions" to cast a protective ring under the entire castle, switching all his monsters to Defense Position and increasing their DEF. He declares that now, no matter what monster Yugi plays, it will not have enough attack points to win. Mai wonders if there is any way for Yugi to break through this perfect defense. (In the dub, she thinks that there is no way Yugi can win now, and that this is what PaniK does.)

A sweating PaniK demands that Yugi hurry up, but Yugi laughs and says that he just revealed his weak point. He calls PaniK a hopeless coward, and says that his last turn just proved it. PaniK, furious, cranks up a gauge on his flamethrowers and launches a small beam straight at Yugi, but he dodges out of the way effortlessly. As sparks fly through the air, Yugi further taunts PaniK by saying that he expected him to use "Chaos Shield" from the start—as a coward like him would naturally want to create a shield. Yugi says that if PaniK wants to prove he is not a coward, then he should do so by defeating him. Yugi declares that PaniK only has two turns left.

On Yugi's turn, he draws "Gaia The Fierce Knight". He Summons it to the field. PaniK declares that "Gaia" doesn't have nearly enough ATK to break through his defense, but Yugi activates his Set card—"Polymerization", which fuses "Gaia" and "Curse of Dragon" to Fusion Summon "Gaia the Dragon Champion". Yugi declares that his turn is over, but that PaniK is finished. PaniK thinks that Yugi must be bluffing, as with "Chaos Shield" up, his monsters are still protected. Yugi laughs again, which aggravates PaniK even more. He thinks that if he just survives one more turn, the "Swords" will wear off and he will be able to launch an all-out attack after deactivating his "Chaos Shield".

PaniK draws "Metal Guardian" and Summons it in Defense Position outside the "Chaos Shield". With the Field Power Bonus, its DEF grows to 2795. PaniK declares that now it is 100% impossible to attack his monsters, but Yugi uses this to taunt PaniK some more, calling him pathetic and only looking to protect himself. PaniK says that when the "Swords" are gone, he will be invincible, but Yugi says to not be so sure and that this is his last turn.

On Yugi's turn, he Summons "Catapult Turtle" in Attack Position and places "Gaia the Dragon Champion" on top of the catapult. Yugi says that by launching it from the catapult, the ATK of "Gaia" increases from 2600 to 3200. PaniK says that the attack is useless because his monsters have "Metal Guardian" as a shield, but Yugi declares that he was not attacking PaniK's monsters, but instead the "Castle of Dark Illusions". Despite the DEF of the "Castle" also being 3200, Yugi is not deterred, and launches "Gaia" from "Catapult Turtle". It barrels straight into the crest of the "Castle", and Yugi's Life Points drop to 300 as "Gaia" was destroyed. Joey says that if Yugi's attack didn't cause the "Castle" to fall, it will be big trouble.

When the dust finally clears, the "Castle" is still left standing, but the crest that "Gaia" launched into cracks and breaks, alongside the entire outer ring of the "Castle", which PaniK identifies as its flotation ring. PaniK laughs and says that the castle survived, and now that Yugi's attack is done, he will be able to deactivate "Chaos Shield" and destroy Yugi. However, Yugi reveals that the Duel is already over, and that PaniK will not have a next turn. He asks PaniK a question: is it not strange that a castle whose flotation ring was destroyed is still floating? He reveals the answer: the only thing holding up the "Castle" is Yugi's "Swords of Revealing Light", and that when they expire, the "Castle" will not be able to float anymore. Yugi declares that his turn is over. As the "Swords" fade away, PaniK commands his monsters to flee, but Yugi says that they cannot, as PaniK's own "Chaos Shield" has trapped them all inside. The "Castle" falls to the ground, destroying itself and all of the monsters that were under it. PaniK takes effect damage due to the monsters' destructions, and his Life Points drop to 0, winning Yugi the Duel.

Despite being defeated, PaniK stands up and smirks. He declares that he does not care how the Duel ended, and smashes his Dueling Gauntlet down onto the control panel for the flamethrowers, breaking it. This causes a ring of fire to appear around the entire Duel Arena, and furthermore two flamethrowers shoot directly out of PaniK's side of the Arena directly at Yugi. However, Yugi's Millennium Puzzle glows and an eye appears on his forehead, and the flames are repelled before they can reach him. The entire Arena is engulfed in fire, and with just Yugi and PaniK left, Yugi tells PaniK that he will show him the true power of the shadows, and Mind Crushes him.

Yugi steps out of a burned Duel Arena with singe marks all around it. Téa and Joey are thankful that he is safe, but Yugi walks straight over to Mai, and holds out the Star Chips that PaniK had won from Mai. However, Mai says that she cannot accept the Star Chips, and that she will leave the island. Téa tries reminding Mai of her dream, but Joey instead walks up and says that he will take them if Mai does not want them. This causes Mai to get angry and demand that Joey give them back, to which Joey gladly obliges. He says that if Mai is stopped by her pride from battling, then she should just throw the Chips into the ocean. He tells Mai that if it were him, he wouldn't throw away his Chips—or his dreams.

The gang heads off, but Mai calls to Yugi, saying that she is just borrowing the Star Chips—and as long as she is in Yugi's debt, she has no right to battle him. She says that once she earns that right, she will battle Yugi fair and square. Yugi says that he will be waiting.

Featured Duel: Yami Yugi vs. PaniKEdit

Duel continues from the previous episode.

Yugi has 1606 LP remaining, and controls "Curse of Dragon" (2000/1500) in Defense Position, "Spellbinding Circle" and 2 Set cards.
PaniK has 2000 LP remaining, and controls "Castle of Dark Illusions" (920 → 1196/1930 → 2509) in Defense Position, "Barox" (1380 → 1794/1530 → 1989), "Dark Chimera" (1610 → 2093/1460 → 1898) and "Reaper of the Cards" (1380 → 1094/1930 → 2509) all in Attack Position, and no Set cards.

Turn 11: PaniK
PaniK has four turns remaining. PaniK draws "King of Yamimakai" and subsequently Normal Summons it (2000 → 2600/1530 → 1989) in Attack Position. "King of Yamimakai" attacks "Curse of Dragon", but the light from "Spellbinding Circle" redirects the attack to "Reaper of the Cards", destroying the latter (PaniK: 2000 → 494 LP). Yugi then activates his face-down "Swords of Revealing Light". Now for three turns, all monsters PaniK controls must be face-up and cannot attack.

Turn 12: Yami Yugi
Yugi passes. The effect of "Swords of Revealing Light" will expire in two turns.

Turn 13: PaniK
PaniK has three turns remaining. PaniK draws "Chaos Shield" and subsequently activates it to increase the DEF of all his monsters ("Castle of Dark Illusions": 1196/2509 → 3200, "Barox": 1794/1998 → 2600, "Dark Chimera": 2093/1898 → 2600, "King of Yamimakai": 2600/1989 → 2600) and switch them to Defense Position.

Turn 14: Yami Yugi
Yugi draws "Gaia The Fierce Knight" and subsequently Normal Summons it (2300/2100) in Attack Position. He then activates his face-down "Polymerization" to fuse "Curse of Dragon" with "Gaia The Fierce Knight" in order to Fusion Summon "Gaia the Dragon Champion" (2600/2100) in Attack Position. The effect of "Swords of Revealing Light" will expire in one turn.

Turn 15: PaniK
PaniK has two turns remaining. PaniK draws "Metal Guardian" and subsequently Normal Summons it (1150 → 1495/2150 → 2795) in Defense Position. Since "Metal Guardian" is in Defense Position, Yugi cannot attack any monster PaniK controls, except "Metal Guardian".

Turn 16: Yami Yugi
Yugi draws. He then Normal Summons "Catapult Turtle" (1000/2000) in Defense Position. Yugi then activates the effect of "Catapult Turtle", increasing the ATK of "Gaia the Dragon Champion" by 600 ("Gaia the Dragon Champion": 2600 → 3200/2100) and Tributing it to destroy the floatation ring of "Castle of Dark Illusions". Shortly after doing this, Yami Yugi takes damage (Yugi: 1606 → 300 LP). However, "Castle of Dark Illusions" remains floating. Yugi explains that the only reason "Castle of Dark Illusions" is still floating is because of the effect of "Swords of Revealing Light". At the End Phase, the effect of "Swords of Revealing Light" expires.

Turn 17: PaniK
PaniK has one turn remaining. On PaniK's turn, "Castle of Dark Illusions" falls and crashes down on PaniK's monsters, who are unable to escape because of "Chaos Shield". This wipes out the rest of PaniK's Life Points (PaniK: 494 → 0 LP).

AftermathEdit

PaniK, angry that he lost, attempts to kill Yugi with fire, but he gets killed instead (in the dub, Yugi sends him to the Shadow Realm).

In other languagesEdit

Language Title
English (Singapore dub) Swords of Revealing Light

Differences in adaptationsEdit

  • The countdown is cut out from the Dub, until this episode and the one prior were aired as their respective episodes, without being spliced together.
  • "Chaos Shield" is given a slight redesign in the US Version.
  • The Japanese Player Killer has the kanji for "yami" or "darkness" on his cap, which is removed in the US Version.
  • Before Yami Yugi sends PaniK to the Shadow Realm, the letters P and K can be seen on either side of PaniK's jacket, presumably a reference to his Japanese nickname, Player Killer.
  • As before, "Barox" has the purple background of a Fusion Monster in the US version, but it's a Normal Monster in the Japanese version.
  • After Yami Yugi sacrifices Gaia the Dragon Champion he has a concerned look in his face in the English version, but in the Japanese version he doesn't have one.

ErrorsEdit

  • When PaniK is becoming nervous after playing "Yellow Luster Shield", "Metal Guardian" can be seen on the field, even though PaniK hasn't played it yet.
  • Yugi's Life Point total is briefly shown as 1606 on the side of his podium before it is actually reduced to that number.
  • When Joey is holding Mai's Star Chips it looks like there are seven instead of eight.
  • The "Swords of Revealing Light" disappeared after two of PaniK's turns, even though Yugi said that it lasts for three of his turns.

TriviaEdit

  • In this episode, many of the changes to ATK, DEF and Life Points are obviously intended to round to the nearest 100, in stark contrast to the previous episode, where all of PaniK's monsters ended up having uneven numbers of ATK and DEF.
