Not only does Atem still have all three Egyptian God cards, Yugi doesn't have a single monster on the field! Yugi claims that he has a combo that will defeat the Egyptian Gods, but is he simply bragging or does he actually have a plan? The Duel of destiny between the closest of friends rages on!

SummaryEdit

As Yugi stands with only "Magnet Force", Kaiba gasps that it's impossible for him to have a combo that can destroy the Egyptian Gods and Mokuba points out that their ATK has been reduced, but Yugi has no monsters (in the dub, Kaiba tells Yugi that if he honestly believes he can win, he should stop talking about it and do it already, and Mokuba wonders if Yugi really has a combo that can destroy the Egyptian Gods). "Obelisk the Tormentor" stands with 500 ATK, "The Winged Dragon of Ra" with 3000 and "Slifer the Sky Dragon" on 1000 as Atem calls to to his partner, and Yugi tells his other self that he's coming (in the dub, Atem tells Yugi that it's his move, and he wants to see his plan) as Yugi activates the Quick-Play Magic Card "Magnet Reverse", Special Summoning a Rock or Machine-Type monster that was sent to the Graveyard this turn in Defense Position. He resurrects "Valkyrion the Magna Warrior", who appears in a crouch as Yugi adds that the Summon will activate the "Lightning Blast" effect of "Slifer". "Slifer" blasts a ball of blue lightning from its second mouth that slams into "Valkyrion", and Yugi reminds Atem that due to the effect of "Magnet Force", the "Lightning Blast" will be redirected towards Atem's monsters. It blasts past Atem and slams into "Obelisk", destroying it, and Atem gasps "Obelisk's" name (in the dub he cries that "Obelisk" is gone) as the explosion buffets him.

"The Winged Dragon of Ra" is destroyed by "Slifer's' redirected effect.
"Slifer" is destroyed by its own effect.

Yugi (in the dub, he notes "one down, two to go) then activates the effect of "Valkyrion" to separate into the "Magnet Warriors", and "Valkyrion" splits apart into "Alpha", "Beta" and "Gamma", all in Defense Position. Mokuba gasps that it divided into three (in the dub he wonders why Yugi would do that) and Kaiba declares that every time Yugi Summons a new monster, "Slifer the Sky Dragon" is forced to strike it. "Slifer" rears up and launches three "Lightning Blasts" at the monsters, which slam into the "Magnet Warriors" as Yugi declares that they'll be sent back to Atem's monsters by the effect of "Magnet Force". The "Magnet Warriors" throw the blasts off - one blast hits "Ra", reducing it to 1000 ATK, then the second blast destroys it. The third blast slams into "Slifer", throwing its head back and reducing its ATK from 2000 to 0, destroying it in a plume of fire and buffeting Atem with the force of the explosion.

Mokuba is impressed and Kaiba gasps that Yugi beat the three Gods, while Joey gasps that it's unbelievable and Marik and Duke both gasp that Yugi really did defeat the three Gods all at once. Joey declares that Yugi really did perform a miracle, and Bakura and Solomon join hands and dance in a circle, cheering Yugi's move, Solomon adding that's his grandson. (In the dub, Mokuba exclaims "No way!" and Kaiba comments that Yugi really did have a plan after all. Joey, Marik and Duke are just as astonished that Yugi beat the Egyptian Gods in one move, and Joey claims he never expected anything less from Yugi. Bakura and Solomon cheer that Yugi did it, and is better than the Pharaoh, after which Solomon assures Atem he meant no offense.)

Atem warns Yugi that he hasn't used his full power yet.

Yugi explains to Atem that he learned while watching him that the greatest weakness of the powerful is often their own power, and Kaiba notes that Yugi defeat the Gods with the Gods' power as Yugi confirms that as he watched Atem use the Gods, he subconsciously thought of ways to defeat them. (In the dub, Yugi tells Atem he couldn't have defeated the Gods without Atem's help, as all the battles they've fought together taught him that battling someone powerful often means using that power against them. He knew the only way he could take down the three Egyptian Gods was to figure out a way to attack them with their own power, so that's exactly what he just did. Kaiba's thoughts are replaced by Yugi's explanation.) Atem agrees that's precisely what Yugi should have done, as a true Duelist wants to test themselves against a strong opponent, and the same is true for him. He hasn't used all his power yet, and Yugi, standing on 2400 Life Points, agrees that he hasn't either. (In the dub, Atem agrees Yugi's strategy was excellent work and states that by trusting his instincts, Yugi was able to accomplish the seemingly impossible: Destroying the most powerful creatures in Duel Monsters. But that doesn't mean he's won the game. Yugi agrees that's true and he hasn't won yet, ending his turn).

Kaiba admits he was wrong about the Duel.

With 4000 Life Points himself, Atem tells Yugi that he's coming, and he declares his turn and draws (in the dub he claims he has plenty of tricks left) "Magnet Force" vanishing as he activates the Magic Card "Polymerization", fusing "Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts" and "Berfomet" in his hand to Summon "Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast". Yugi and Bakura gasp and Duke praises Atem's comeback after losing the Gods, as he now has the strongest monster on the field. Atem orders "Chimera" to attack "Alpha The Magnet Warrior" with "Pulverizing Pounce" and "Chimera" leaps towards "Alpha" and slams into it, destroying it and then leaping back to Atem's side of the field. Atem ends his turn, and Mokuba gasps that Atem is strong, believing he has the upper hand again even after losing the God cards. But Kaiba tells him he's wrong: Yugi may have fewer life points, but he managed to come up with an unprecedented strategy to defeat the Egyptian God cards, and Kaiba's never seen anything like that before. He declares the battle has turned in Yugi's favor, and admits he believes what Yugi said now (in the dub, Kaiba admits he was wrong - Yugi is the King of Games). Surprised, but pleased at Kaiba's words, Yugi asks Kaiba if he really means it, while Joey is shocked that Kaiba is rooting for Yugi (in the dub, Joey wonders if he's going nuts, or did Kaiba just admit that he was wrong?)

Yugi nods, then he declares his turn and draws. He sacrifices "Beta" and "Gamma The Magnet Warriors" to Summon "Buster Blader", and Bakura comments that Yugi isn't backing down, given that he Summoned a high-Level monster in one turn, and Joey agrees it's incredible: it doesn't matter to Yugi and Atem whether the God cards are in play or not. (In the dub, Bakura comments that the Duel is quite a close race, and Yugi has sped ahead again just when he thought Atem was back in the lead again. Joey states that only one thing counts, crossing the finish line first, and his money's on Yugi.) Yugi tells his other self that he's coming, and orders "Buster Blader" to attack and destroy "Chimera" with "Dragon Sword". "Buster Blader" charges, then leaps into the air and bisects "Chimera", destroying it and striking a pose. Atem congratulates Yugi as he falls to 3500 Life Points, but activates the effect of "Chimera" since it was destroyed, Special Summoning either "Gazelle" or "Berfomet" from his Graveyard. He revives "Berfomet" in Defense Position, and Duke is impressed that Atem can continue Summoning monsters, though Joey points out that now the Gods are gone, Atem doesn't have many monsters in his Deck with more ATK than "Buster Blader", which Téa notes means Yugi has the advantage (their conversation is cut from the dub). Yugi ends his turn, and Atem notes that Yugi's Summoned a powerful monster (in the dub, Yugi wants to see what else Atem has, and Atem warns him that "Buster Blader" is powerful, but not indestructible).

He declares his turn and draws, then sacrifices "Berfomet" to Summon "Beast of Gilfer" in Defense Position, before Setting one card face down and ending his turn. Joey notes that "Beast of Gilfer" has less ATK than "Buster Blader" (in the dub he also thinks that Atem's lost it) but notes that when it's destroyed its effect can reduce the ATK of an opponent's monster by 500. Yugi knows what his other self is trying to do, but notes this is his first chance to attack and he can't just stay put (in the dub, he agrees that Joey's got a point, but it's a risk he'll have to take. It could be even more dangerous to let the Pharaoh keep "Beast of Gilfer" on the field).

The effect of "Beast of Gilfer" weakens "Buster Blader".

Declaring his turn and drawing, Yugi Sets the card he drew, then attacks "Beast of Gilfer" with "Buster Blader". "Buster Blader" charges towards "Best of Gilfer" and slashes through it twice with "Dragon Sword", destroying the Fiend, and Atem activates the effect of "Beast of Gilfer" since it was sent to the Graveyard, transforming it into an Equip Magic Card that reduces the ATK of the equipped monster by 500. The swirling particles remaining from "Beast of Gilfer" surge into "Buster Blader", which screams as it falls to its knees and its ATK falls to 2100, and Yugi ends his turn.

Atem Summons the monster he sent to the Graveyard at the beginning of the Duel - "Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight".

Atem declares his turn and draws, Sets a card, then activates the Magic Card, "Awakening from Beyond". This allows his opponent to draw two cards, while he adds a monster from his Graveyard to his hand. He tells Yugi to draw his two cards, and Yugi does, while Atem retrieves his monster. Yugi wonders which monster Atem has retrieved, noting that besides the Egyptian gods, the most powerful monster in his Graveyard is "The Tricky" As he remembers Atem's opening move, discarding one card from his hand to Special Summon "The Tricky", he thinks that bringing back "The Tricky" would be pointless. First Atem would have to discard a card from his hand to summon it, but can't, so he has to be retrieving a monster with less ATK than "Buster Blader" (in the dub, Yugi thinks that even if Atem could Summon "The Tricky" it still wouldn't be strong enough to defeat "Buster Blader"). Atem tells Yugi that he knows what he's thinking and claims he's still a step ahead of him (in the dub, he asks if Yugi's trying to guess what monster he brought back, then tells Yugi he can't because it's a monster Yugi didn't even know he had). He Summons the monster he retrieved - "Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight". Joey gasps its name (in the dub, he wonders how that got in the Pharaoh's Graveyard) and as "Gaia" appears, Atem explains that he was able to Summon the Level 7 "Gaia" without a sacrifice because it was the only card in his hand. Yugi asks how "Gaia" got into Atem's Graveyard, and Atem reminds him there was one opportunity to do so (in the dub, he Yugi protests that he never sent that card to the graveyard and Atem agrees, as he sent it to the Graveyard himself, at the start of their Duel). Yugi remembers Atem discarding a card to Special Summon "The Tricky" and realizes that "Gaia" was the card he discarded (in the dub, Atem is the one to explain this and Yugi's realization is shorter; he asks why Atem would throw away such a powerful card so early in the Duel).

Atem claims he knew Yugi would defeat the Egyptian Gods.

Atem claims he was preparing for this, and he's known from the beginning that they would get to this point. Yugi asks how Atem could have predicted that. Atem remembers building his Deck, stating that there are powerful cards only he as the Pharaoh could control that give him a huge advantage - such as the Egyptian Gods - but notes they could be defeated, and he declares he knew Yugi could defeat the Egyptian Gods (in the dub, Atem states that he knew Yugi would defeat the Egyptian Gods). Everyone is shocked by this, Kaiba in disbelief that Atem could have known Yugi would defeat the Gods, and Atem states that power is only a ruse for a true Duelist, and the true battle began once the Gods were gone. The extreme tension, miraculous draws and faith in their cards have led to this ultimate battle. (In the dub, Atem tells Yugi that destroying the three Egyptian Gods was just the first step of this ritual. Now that the Gods are gone, the true test of their readiness to separate can begin, so if Yugi's ready to live on his own, he must prove it by winning this Duel.) Warning his partner that he's coming, Atem orders "Swift Gaia" to attack "Buster Blader".

Solomon and Joey discuss Yugi's strategy.

As "Swift Gaia" gallops towards "Buster Blader", Ishizu thinks to herself that Yugi has the power to repel the Pharaoh's fighting spirit, and he is the only one who can let him sleep in peace forever and return him to his friends from the past (in the dub, she also encourages Yugi to be strong). "Gaia" impales "Buster Blader" with "Spiral Lance Thrust Attack" as it tries to defend, destroying it and reducing Yugi to 2200 Life Points, and Téa and Bakura cry his name (in the dub, Téa asks if Yugi's all right, and Bakura says "Let's hope so.") Yugi activates his Trap Card, "Soul Rope", as his monster was destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, paying 1000 Life Points to Special Summon a Level 4 monster from his Deck. He falls to 1200 Life Points, and Special Summons "Witch of the Black Forest" in Defense Position, and Atem ends his turn (in the dub he protests that it's hardly enough to protect Yugi). Bakura notes that Atem has a large advantage again and Tristan admits the 2300 ATK "Gaia" is huge at this point, a statement Joey agrees with, while Duke believes Atem has made the better predictions (in the dub, Bakura wonders why Yugi would pay 1000 Life Points just to Summon the "Witch" and Tristan thinks Yugi might be getting desperate, while Duke thinks Yugi just realized there's no way he can win). But Solomon disagrees, posing the question of why Yugi paid 1000 Life Points to Summon a monster, and Joey realizes Yugi intends to sacrifice it, a statement Solomon agrees with, stating Yugi hasn't given up (in the dub, Solomon simply agrees).

"Summoned Skull" attacks "Swift Gaia".

Yugi declares his turn and draws, then sacrifices "Witch of the Black Forest", and Yugi's friends gasp as Yugi Summons "Summoned Skull". "Summoned Skull" appears in a flash of lightning and Yugi adds that when "Witch of the Black Forest" goes to the Graveyard, her effect allows him to add a monster from his Deck to his hand with 1500 or less DEF, and he chooses "Marshmallon". Atem muses the monster's name and Joey notes the names of both monsters (in the dub Atem congratulates Yugi, as he didn't expect that move, and Joey is silent) Téa notes that they're both monsters Yugi has fought alongside, and Joey agrees, remembering "Gaia The Fierce Knight" destroying "Saggi the Dark Clown" and "Summoned Skull" destroying "Great Moth" and stating that they've helped out of some tight spots. Téa adds that now they have to battle one another, and Tristan suggests it's the monsters themselves who might suffer the most during this Duel (in the dub, Téa states that two of Yugi's strongest monsters are face to face in battle and comments on the bizarreness of it, while Tristan comments it's likely more bizarre for Yugi and Atem. The flashback sequence is cut from the dub). Yugi tells his other self that he's coming, and orders "Summoned Skull" to attack "Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight" with "Lightning Strike". "Summoned Skull" unleashes a massive ball of lightning, destroying "Gaia" and reducing Atem to 3300 Life Points. Yugi ends his turn (in the dub, he notes that Atem's Life Points are wide open, but luckily his turn's over).

Atem is impressed by Yugi's comeback and admits this is the first Duel he's actually been afraid in (in the dub, he thinks that this Duel could be the toughest challenge he's ever faced). Ever since he was reborn into this world, Yugi has been behind him and supporting him, giving him strength. But now for the first time, Yugi is facing him as an opponent. They have overcome challenges and grown together (in the dub, Atem believe that Yugi must feel the same way he does, staring into the face of his closest friend) and he declares that Yugi Muto is his greatest rival. There's only one way to win, by believing in himself and in his Deck (in the dub, he thinks that like Yugi he must fight harder than he's ever fought before, and do everything in his power to win this battle).

Atem announces that he will draw "Big Shield Gardna".

Atem prepares to draw, stating that he can create a miracle if Yugi can (in the dub, he states that the card he draws will be the exact card he needs) and announcing his intention to Summon "Big Shield Gardna". He draws, and without looking at his card, he Summon "Big Shield Gardna" in Defense Position. Joey asks in shock what's happening, and Tristan gasps that Atem announced the card before he drew it, while Bakura adds that it was as though Atem knew what he'd draw. But Marik suggests that Atem drew the card he envisioned, and as Téa repeats his words, Joey protests that the order of the Deck was set at the start of the Duel. Ishizu admits she believed a draw to be influenced by fate, but now the Pharaoh is bending fate to his will. Téa is shocked that Atem can control fate, and Joey admits the Duel has gone beyond their imaginations. (In the dub, Joey believes he's seen it all now and Tristan is wonders how Atem could have known what card he would draw. Bakura suggests it was "the luck of the draw", but Marik states the move had nothing to do with luck and the Pharaoh knew exactly what card he was about to draw. Téa protests that the decks were shuffled, and Joey asks if the Pharaoh can see the future, suggesting it qualifies as an unfair advantage. Ishizu clarifies the Pharaoh didn't predict what his next card would be - his willpower made it so. His determination was so strong he influenced fate with his own will. Téa protests that's insane, asking since when fate can be controlled, and Joey admits that if he's learned anything from hanging out with Yugi, it's that nothing is impossible.) Atem ends his turn (in the dub, he reminds Yugi it's his turn now).

"Big Shield Gardna" changes to Attack Position.

Yugi declares his turn and draws, then activates "Pot of Greed" to draw two more cards. He Special Summons one of them, "Watapon", then sacrifices it to Summon "Curse of Dragon". Duke gasps that Yugi Summoned another high-Level monster (in the dub, he notes that Yugi's moving up in the world; he's got two powerhouses now). Yugi orders "Summoned Skull" to attack "Big Shield Gardna" with "Lightning Strike" and Tristan says wonders why Yugi's attacking when "Big Shield Gardna" has higher DEF, but as the lightning bolt hits, Joey reassures them it's fine and Téa gasps (in the dub, she admits she hopes so) and watches the lightning dissipate. Yugi falls to 1100 Life Points from the failed attack, but then "Big Shield Gardna" stands up, and Téa and Duke gasp as Joey explains that "Big Shield Gardna" is changed to Attack Position after being attacked, and only has 100 ATK. Yugi orders "Curse of Dragon" to attack "Big Shield Gardna" with "Dragon Flame", destroying it and reducing Atem's Life Points to 1400 (in the dub, Yugi declares that now Atem's last line of defense is gone).

Téa turns to leave the Duel.

Bakura cheers that Yugi and Atem's Life Points are almost equal, and Duke agrees that Yugi has two high-Level monsters, Tristan admitting he can see Yugi winning now. (In the dub, shots of Yugi and Atem replace the shot of Yugi's friends and Joey declares that Yugi's having the time of his life up there, noting that if Yugi wins, he's ready to face the world on his own. Bakura and Duke's dialog is cut, and Tristan adds that the Pharaoh will finally be free). Saddened, Téa turns her back on the duel, and Joey calls after her. She admits she can't watch any more. She doesn't believe Atem wants to go, so why do they have to fight? (In the dub, she points out that if the Pharaoh loses, this is the last time they'll see him. She doesn't know about the others, but she's not ready to say goodbye yet. She asks them to make them stop.)

Joey consoles Téa.

Joey walks up to Téa, stating the Duel isn't being continued by Yugi and Atem's free will, but their souls as Duelists ingrained in their Decks, and Téa repeats the term "soul as duelists". Joey explains that Yugi and Atem have battled many Duelists to reach this point: himself, Kaiba, Marik, Bakura, Mai, Weevil, Mako, Pegasus, and many others, and their souls and these Duels have honed their Decks, so a Duelist must fight for them. Téa turns back to Joey, whispering his name, and Joey admits his belief that Yugi and Atem aren't thinking about Atem returning to the afterlife anymore, and no-one can stop this Duel. As Duelists, their souls push them to battle, no matter what's ahead of them. He puts a hand on Téa's shoulder, stating that there's nothing they can do, but as friends they need to watch until the end.

(In the dub, Joey states that this isn't easy for any of them, but this Duel has to continue, and Téa knows as well as he does that they couldn't stop this Duel if they tried. Téa reluctantly agrees, but asks him to remind her why. Joey states that everything that's happened since Yugi and Atem met has been leading up to this. Every Duel they ever faced together was preparing them for this one, every enemy they ever stared down, every strategy they ever planned, and every friend they ever saved helped shape who they are today. And now they need this test to see how far they've come. Téa asks why again, and Joey explains that Yugi and Atem had a lot to learn when they met and needed one another to get by, but hopefully by now they're both ready to move on with their lives. He states the Duel is really all for the best and puts his hand on Téa's shoulder, telling her that as tough as it seems, they need to support Yugi and Atem all the way.) Téa wipes away a tear and agrees, and they turn back to the Duel.

Atem Summons "Dark Magician".

Atem looks at his Deck with a smile, thinking that he can feel the pulse of their souls. He tells Mahad that he's sorry to have kept him waiting (in the dub, Atem thinks that he senses the presence of an old friend, and it's time for them to reunite. He states that he might be defenseless now, but that's all about to change). Atem tells Yugi that he's coming, declares his turn and draws, then activates the Magic Card "Dark Magic Curtain", paying half his Life Points to Special Summon "Dark Magician" from his Deck. His Life Points fall to 700 as purple energy emerges from him and enters the "Dark Magic Curtain", which unleashes a surge of smoke that coils in the sky and disgorges a surge of purple energy from which "Dark Magician" appears. Yugi gasps his monster's name, and Téa notes that it's their ace card that both Yugis trust, while Kaiba is shocked Atem has Summoned it now (in the dub, Yugi admits he was afraid Atem would do that, and Téa notes that now Yugi's forced to fight against his favorite monster, while Kaiba's glad he stuck around). But Atem's not done yet, and activates his face-down Magic Card, "Book of Secret Arts", increasing the ATK and DEF of "Dark Magician" by 300. Rainbow energy surges from the card into "Dark Magician", raising his ATK to 2800, and then Atem orders "Dark Magician" to attack "Summoned Skull" with "Dark Magic Attack". "Dark Magician" leaps into the air and unleashes a blast of green magic, consuming "Summoned Skull" and reducing Yugi to 800 Life Points.

Mahad reaffirms his dedication to Atem.

As "Dark Magician" settles on his side of the field, Atem utters Mahad's name, and Mahad looks over his shoulder at his master, stating that after 3000 years he will devote his soul to him again (in the dub, Atem tells "Dark Magician" that was nice work, and Mahad declares he's traveled 5000 years across time and space to serve his king in this battle). Ishizu watches, stunned, and Marik asks her if something's wrong, but Ishizu claims it's nothing, then wonders why she feels nostalgic and heartbroken. (in the dub, Ishizu claims it's just nerves, then thinks to herself that the arrival of "Dark Magician" has sparked a strange vision, but what are these memories of old that haunt her?) Yugi admits he knew Atem would Summon "Dark Magician" and Atem declares it's his ace in the hole, and Yugi can't win without defeating it. Yugi vows to himself that he'll defeat the "Dark Magician" (in the dub, he thinks that if he intends to save his closest friend, he must destroy his most trusted monster.)

Featured Duel: Yugi Muto vs. AtemEdit

Duel continues from the previous episode.

Yugi has 2400 Life Points and controls "Magnet Force" in his Spell & Trap Zone.

Atem has 4000 Life Points and controls "Slifer the Sky Dragon" (2000/4000), "Obelisk the Tormentor" (500/4000), and "The Winged Dragon of Ra" (3000/4000) in Attack Position.

Turn 10: Yugi
Yugi activates the Magic Card "Magnet Reverse", selecting a Rock or Machine-Type monster in his Graveyard that was sent to his Graveyard this turn and Special Summoning it in face-up Defense Position. He Special Summons "Valkyrion the Magna Warrior" (3500/3850) in Defense Position. As Yugi Summoned a monster, the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" activates, which would reduce the ATK or DEF of the Summoned monster by 2000, depending on its battle position, and destroy it if its ATK/DEF was reduced to 0 by this effect, but as a Rock or Machine-Type monster Yugi controls was targeted by Atem's card effect, Yugi activates the effect of "Magnet Force", switching the target to a monster Atem controls. He chooses the Attack Position "Obelisk", so "Obelisk" loses 2000 ("Obelisk the Tormentor": 500 → 0/4000) and is destroyed. Yugi activates the effect of "Valkyrion the Magna Warrior", Tributing it to Special Summon "Alpha The Magnet Warrior", "Beta The Magnet Warrior", and "Gamma The Magnet Warrior" from his Graveyard. He Special Summons "Alpha" (1400/1700), "Beta" (1700/1600) and "Gamma" (1500/1800) in Defense Position. As Yugi Summoned monsters, the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" activates, but Yugi activates the effect "Magnet Force", switching the target of the effect of "Slifer" twice to the Attack Position "Ra" and once to the Attack Position "Slifer" ("The Winged Dragon of Ra": 3000 → 1000 → 0/4000, "Slifer the Sky Dragon": 2000 → 0/4000), which are both destroyed.

Turn 11: Atem
Atem activates the Magic Card "Polymerization", sending monsters from his hand or field to the Graveyard listed on a Fusion Monster to Special Summon that Fusion Monster from his Fusion Deck. He fuses "Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts" and "Berfomet" in his hand to Fusion Summon "Chimera the Flying Mythical Beast" (2100/1800) in Attack Position. "Chimera" attacks and destroys "Alpha".

Turn 12: Yugi
Yugi draws "Buster Blader". Yugi Tributes "Beta" and "Gamma" to Tribute Summon "Buster Blader" (2600/2300) in Attack Position. "Buster Blader" attacks and destroys "Chimera" (Atem: 4000 → 3500 LP). As "Chimera" was destroyed, Atem activates its effect, selecting and Special Summoning either "Berfomet" or "Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts" from his Graveyard. He Special Summons "Berfomet" (1400/1800) from his Graveyard in Defense Position.

Turn 13: Atem
Atem draws "Beast of Gilfer". Atem Tributes "Berfomet" to Tribute Summon Beast of Gilfer" (2200/2500) in Defense Position. Atem Sets "Book of Secret Arts".

Turn 14: Yugi
Yugi Sets "Soul Rope". "Buster Blader" attacks and destroys "Beast of Gilfer". As "Beast of Gilfer" was sent to the Graveyard, Atem activates its effect, equipping it to a monster on the field as an Equip Magic Card that decreases the ATK of the equipped monster by 500. He equips "Beast of Gilfer" to "Buster Blader" ("Buster Blader": 2600 → 2100/2300).

Turn 15: Atem
Atem Sets "Dark Illusion". Atem activates the Magic Card "Awakening from Beyond", adding one monster from his Graveyard to his hand and making Yugi draw two cards. He adds "Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight" to his hand and Yugi draws two unknown cards.[Notes 1] As "Swift Gaia" is the only card in Atem's hand, he Normal Summons it without Tributing via its own effect (2300/2100) in Attack Position. "Swift Gaia" attacks and destroys "Buster Blader" (Yugi: 2400 → 2200 LP). As a monster Yugi controls was destroyed, he activates his Set Trap Card "Soul Rope", paying 1000 Life Points (Yugi: 2200 → 1200 LP) to Special Summon a Level 4 or lower monster from his hand or Deck. He Special Summons "Witch of the Black Forest" (1100/1200) from his Deck in Defense Position.

Turn 16: Yugi
Yugi draws "Summoned Skull". Yugi Tributes "Witch of the Black Forest" to Tribute Summon "Summoned Skull" (2500/1200) in Attack Position. As "Witch of the Black Forest" was sent from the field to the Graveyard, Yugi activates its effect, adding a monster with 1500 or less DEF from his Deck to his hand. He adds the 500 DEF "Marshmallon" from his Deck to his hand. "Summoned Skull" attacks and destroys "Swift Gaia" (Atem: 3500 → 3300 LP).

Turn 17: Atem
Atem influences his fate to draw "Big Shield Gardna". Atem Normal Summons "Big Shield Gardna" (100/2600) in Defense Position.

Turn 18: Yugi
Yugi draws "Pot of Greed". Yugi activates the Magic Card "Pot of Greed", drawing two cards. He draws "Watapon" and one unknown card. As "Watapon" was added to Yugi's hand from his Deck other than by his normal draw, he activates its effect, Special Summoning it from his hand. He Special Summons "Watapon" (200/300) in Attack Position. Yugi Tributes "Watapon" to Tribute Summon "Curse of Dragon" (2000/1500) in Attack Position. "Summoned Skull" attacks "Big Shield Gardna". The attack fails (Yugi: 1200 → 1100 LP). As "Big Shield Gardna" was attacked, its effect activates, changing it to Attack Position at the end of the Damage Step. "Curse of Dragon" attacks and destroys "Big Shield Gardna" (Atem: 3300 → 1400 LP).

Turn 19: Atem
Atem draws "Dark Magic Curtain". Atem activates the Magic Card "Dark Magic Curtain", paying half his Life Points (Atem: 1400 → 700 LP) to Special Summon "Dark Magician" from his Deck. He Special Summons "Dark Magician" (2500/2100) in Attack Position. Atem activates his Set Equip Magic Card "Book of Secret Arts", equipping it to a Spellcaster-Type monster he controls. He equips "Book of Secret Arts" to "Dark Magician". The effect of "Book of Secret Arts" increases the ATK and DEF of the equipped monster by 300 ("Dark Magician": 2500 → 2800/2100 → 2400). "Dark Magician" attacks and destroys "Summoned Skull" (Yugi: 1100 → 800 LP).

Duel continues in the next episode.

Differences in adaptationsEdit

  • Several monster attacks are censored in the dub:
  • When Atem recalls building his Deck, the Egyptian God cards are superimposed over the shot of him on the ship.
  • A stylized shot of "Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight" galloping towards "Buster Blader" prior to the commercial break in the Japanese version is cut from the dub.

TriviaEdit

  • In the dub, instead of the traditional "To Be Continued" text that appears at the end of a multi-part episode, this episode has the text "To Be Concluded", inferring that the following episode is the last episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime.

NotesEdit

  1. It is revealed in this episode that "Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight" was the card that Atem discarded to Special Summon "The Tricky" two episodes prior.
  2. This card can be seen, it was Set during this episode.
