Atem's Foresight

Yugi Muto: "Impossible! Ever since when has "Gaia" been in your Graveyard?"
Pharaoh Atem: "It happened to be! I had just one chance to toss "Gaia"!"
  • Yugi recalls about Atem Discarding a Card to Activate the [[The Tricky]'s" Special Effect.
Yugi Muto: "Ah! Back then... My other me had to toss "Gaia" into the Graveyard back then, sans doubt! The Card you discard back then was "Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight"!"
  • (NOTE: he obviously says it original Japanese name, but since someone is going to edit it, I'll leave the TGC name in here. It makes no sense, however.)
Pharaoh Atem: "Indeed, Aibou! I predicted that this situation could happen from the beginning."
Yugi Muto: "From the beginning, you knew we'd come to this situation...!"
Pharaoh Atem: "That's right! I, as a real Pharaoh, have very powerful Cards which I can master. The 3 Gods. It's true that they've brought me an overwhelming advantage. However, by some way or another, they've been beaten. Aibou! I predicted the possibility of you defeating the Gods!""
Seto Kaiba: "He predicted the possibility that Yuugi might defeated the Gods, he's saying!?"
Pharaoh Atem: "After all, they're mere power! It's not a trick which ya can pull to a True Duelist! The real battle begins after the Gods vanish. The courage granted in critical situations upon managing to Draw a 'miracle' Card... It can be pushed to its uppermost limits. I'm going for it, Aibou! "Card Gallery:Swift Gaia the Fierce Knight", Attack "Buster Blader"!"
  • The Duel resumes. While "Gaia" is Attacking "Buster Blader, Ishizu thinks.
: Ishizu Ishtar: (thinking); "Yuugi! But... Now you possess the power to stand up to the Pharaoh... The one who can grant eternal rest to the Pharaoh... Among the friends he met with him after 3,000 years ago... There is no one else but you."
  • The Duel resumes.

Atem's Influence of Fate

  • During the Duel, at some point just before his Draw Phase Atem predicts what Card he is about to Draw. Ishizu explains why.
Pharaoh Atem: "My Turn! If you can create a 'miracle', then, I can, also, create a 'miracle'! I'll Summon "Big Shield Gardna"! Draw! "Big Shield Gardna" is Summoned in Defense Position!"

Atem draws "Big Shield Gardna" and Summons it to the Field.

Joey Wheeler: "Huh? What's going on?"
Tristan Taylor: "That Atem fella... He's announced the Monster before he performed the Draw!"
Ryo Bakura: "It rather looks like he knows the Card he's going to Draw..."
Marik Ishtar: "No. He doesn't know the Card he's going to Draw. The Pharaoh Draws the Card he's made in his own image!"
Téa Gardner: "... 'The Card he's made in his own image'...?"
Joey Wheeler: "Can he do such a thing? The order of the Deck was decided upon being Set!"
Ishizu Ishtar: "No. I, too, think that the Draw is a consequence of the direction the roads of Fate lead to... However... The actual Pharaoh can guide Fate's roads of his own volition."
Téa Gardner: "Guide Fate's roads... of his own volition...?"
Joey Wheeler: "Atem and Yuugi... Their Duel seems to have surpassed our imagination..."
  • Duel resumes.

Joey's Support of the Duel

  • Téa is still cringing at the thought of the Pharaoh leaving this world forever. Joey explains to her why this must be.
Tristan Taylor: "... I can already see Yuugi's victory!"
  • She turns away and walks one or two steps away.
Joey Wheeler: "What's wrong, Anzu?"
Téa Gardner: "I... can't watch anymore... I'm sure that even Atem really doesn't want to go back to the Realm of the Dead... He must be thinking of lingering around with us...! But just why...?"
Joey Wheeler: "Anzu! The reason those two are fighting is not about their individual wills. It's because of the strongness of the Duelist souls hidden in the Decks."
Téa Gardner: "The souls of the Duelists...?"
Joey Wheeler: "Those two have, before coming here, fought a lot of Duelists. Me, Kaiba... Marik, Bakura, Mai, Haga, Kajiki, Pegasus... And the souls of those other challenger Duelists have gathered in each other's Decks. That's why... The Duelist has no choice but to fight by that reason."
Téa Gardner: "Jounouchi..."
Joey Wheeler: "Surely, those two no longer have that 'going back to the Realm of the Dead' thing in their thoughts. No - one can stop this Duel anymore. They just do as they like, being the souls of the Duelists they are, and keep on battling. Even with knowing what Fate awaits them ahead of this... It's a pity. But... We can't do anything. It's sad, but ain't this brought up by friendship?"
Téa Gardner: "Yeah..."
  • Duel resumes.

Trivia

  • In the English Dub, instead of the traditional "To Be Continued" at the end of an episode, this episode has the words "To Be Concluded", inferring that Episode 224 is the last episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Second Series Anime.
