"Transcendent Duel!!", titled "Transcendence Duel!" (超越決闘! Toransendensu Dyueru!) in the Japanese version, is the twenty-sixth chapter of the Yu-Gi-Oh! ARC-V manga.

This chapter was first printed in Japanese in the November 2017 issue of V Jump, released on September 21, 2017, and in English in the September 25, 2017 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump.

Reiji struggles against Isaac in a complex back-and-forth exchange of effects. However, he is surprised when even the trump card his father gave him doesn't seem enough to defeat Isaac.

Summary

Continuing his battle against Isaac in space far above the Earth, Reiji Akaba learns the story of Eve and her relation to Genesis Omega Dragon, and how her actions serve only to find her lost lover Adam, who sacrificed himself to seal G.O.D.'s power. Now, Reiji has to find a way to overcome Isaac's Mirror Imagine monsters, whose effects seem to be able to nullify any attack he can launch.

Continuing his turn in progress, Isaac activates Additional Mirror Level 7. Since he has Special Summoned the Level 7 Mirror Imagine Ray 5, he can send two more Additional Mirror Level 7 from his Deck to the Graveyard in order to Special Summon two more Mirror Imagine Ray 5 to his field. Isaac activates the effect of his three Mirror Imagines, Tributing all three to increase the ATK of Mirror Imagine Catadioptricker 7 by 600 each, to 1800. Isaac also activates Catadioptricker's effect, allowing him to add three Spells with the same name from his Graveyard back to his hand. He chooses the Addition Mirror Level 7.

Isaac activates his Set Kaleidoscope Gate. Once per turn, since three monsters with the same name have left his field this turn, he can Special Summon another monster with the same Level as those monsters from his Deck. Isaac Summons Mirror Imagine Magnifier 4. He then reactivates Additional Mirror Level 7, sending the other two copies of it from his hand to the Graveyard to Special Summon two additional Magnifier 4 from his Deck. Isaac Tributes his three Mirror Imagines to increase Cadioptricker 7's ATK by 800 each, to 4200. Isaac exclaims that as men of science, they seek extreme answers - all or nothing. So now they shall test if this next attack will make Reiji disappear forever.

Isaac attacks D/D/D Supersight King Zero Maxwell with Mirror Imagine Cadioptricker 7. When it battles an opponent's monster, Cadioptricker gains ATK equal to that attack target's ATK, and so its ATK increases by 2800 to 7000. Reiji notes that when Zero Maxwell is destroyed, battle damage becomes 0. Back on Earth, Yuzu Hiiragi says that Reiji will be fine from this attack then, in that case, but Yuya Sakaki corrects her, saying that destruction happens only after damage calculation. If Reiji takes enough damage to reduce his LP to 0 before his monster is destroyed, then his monster can't protect him.

Reiji activates his Set Zero Potential, forcing both players to draw a card. If Reiji draws a D/D/D card, the battle damage he takes drops to 0. Isaac wonders if Reiji will really trust his life to the hands of fate, but Reiji rebukes this, stating that there is no such thing as fate that guides him. Reiji draws, and Zero Maxwell is destroyed by the attack, but the card is a D/D/D monster, and so Reiji takes no damage. Isaac draws his own card, but pauses very suddenly. Behind Reiji, a phantom has appeared. The phantom still wearing the uniform of the university they once attended together, and Isaac realizes that Adam himself is aiding Reiji. Isaac wonders if perhaps Adam blames him for what happened on that fateful day.

Isaac Sets a card before ending his turn. During the End Phase, Cadioptricker 7 returns to his hand. Reiji begins his turn by setting the Scale 4 D/D Extra Surveyor and the Scale 9 D/D Scale Surveyor into his Pendulum Zones. With his Scale set, Reiji can Pendulum Summon monsters from Level 5 to 8 from his hand or face-up Extra Deck at the same time. Reiji Pendulum Summons D/D/D Supersight King Zero Maxwell from his Extra Deck. Isaac tells Reiji that he is too late, as his defenses have become impossible to penetrate, but Reiji retorts that only a second-rate scientist would use the word "impossible".

Reiji thinks back to that time in the underground research facility, where he claimed a card developed for him by his father, who believed that Reiji would make the most of its power. Reiji declares a Transcendent Pendulum Summon, a Pendulum Summon that can only be conducted when the sum of his Pendulum Scales exceed the Level of his monster. Reiji Transcendent Pendulum Summons D/D/D/D Super-Dimensional Sovereign Emperor Zero Paradox, the monster that transcends the Pendulum Scale. As it was Summoned successfully, Reiji activates his monster's effect to destroy every other card on the field. With that, Isaac's Reflector combo will be broken.

Isaac activates his Set Devil Mirage, allowing him to negate a card's effect that would destroy cards on the field, since he controls a Mirror Imagine card. In addition, he can then destroy all of Reiji's cards in turn. Reiji, who expected Isaac to have another shield, activates his Set Zero Protection, allowing him to negate the destruction of his card's by Devil Mirage's effect. Reiji attacks Isaac directly with Zero Maxwell; however, Isaac deploys his Reflector combo just like in his last turn. Using Mirror Imagine Secondary 9's effect, he Special Summons Reflector 1 from his Deck, who then Summons Reflector 2 who then Summons Reflector 3, nullifying Zero Maxwell's attack.

Reiji attacks Isaac directly with Zero Paradox, and Isaac deploys his combo again, nullifying the attack. On Earth, Yuzu notes that Reiji is at a disadvantage if all of his attacks are simply nullified like that, but Yuya points out that you can only have three copies of a card in your Deck, so the combo can't last forever. Isaac's just used his third one, so he's out of protection. Besides that, Yuya believes that Reiji has another plan in mind. Reiji similarly notes that Isaac is out of ammunition, but Isaac simply notes that he'll have to fix that next turn. But Reiji declares that Isaac won't have a next turn.

Reiji activates the Pendulum Effect of Extra Surveyor in his Pendulum Zone. When a card is placed in the Extra Deck, he can banish both cards in his Extra Deck to banish a number of cards from Isaac's Deck, equal to the number of Pendulum Monsters in his Extra Deck. In addition, he can increase the ATK of his Zero Paradox by 200 for each banished card and allow it to attack again. Isaac has 15 Pendulum Cards in his Extra Deck, and 15 cards remaining in his Main Deck. Not only would Zero Paradox be allowed to attack again with 6000 ATK and lose through battle damage, but even if Isaac survives the attack, he'll have no cards remaining to draw during his next turn and lose through a Deck-out.

Reiji banishes his Pendulum Monsters, and declares that Isaac's Deck has been reduced to 0. But Isaac predicted this would occur, as his notes are very extensive. He activates his Set Exchange of the Mirror World. He negates Reiji's Pendulum Effect, and then shuffles all the Pendulum Monsters in his Extra Deck back to his Main Deck. Zero Paradox also gains no ATK, and Reiji is forced to end his turn without a second attack. And if Reiji would permit Isaac to indulge in boasting as well, Reiji's chances of victory have just been reduced to 0.

Featured Duel: Reiji Akaba vs Isaac

Duel continues from the previous Scale.

Turn 4: Isaac
Since he just Special Summoned the Level 7 "Mirror Imagine Ray 5", Isaac activates "Additional Mirror Level 7"; he send two other copies of "Additional Mirror Level 7" from his Deck to the Graveyard to Special Summon two more copies of "Ray 5" (0/2000) from his Deck, also he takes damage equal to their total ATK. Since their ATK is zero, Isaac takes no damage. Isaac activates the effect of his three "Ray 5", Tributing them to increase the ATK of "Mirror Imagine Catadioptricker 7" by 600 for each ("Catadioptricker 7": ATK 0 → 1800). Next, he activates the effect of "Catadioptricker 7", returning the three copies of "Additional Mirror Level 7" from his Graveyard to his hand. Since three monsters with the same name left the field this turn ("Ray 5"), he also activates "Kaleidoscope Gate", letting him Special Summon the also Level 7 "Mirror Imagine Magnifier 4" (0/1200), subsequently activating "Additional Mirror Level 7" again to Special Summon two additional copies of it from his Deck (0/1200). Isaac proceeds to activate the effects of the three "Magnifier 4", tributing them to increase the ATK of "Catadioptricker 7" by 800 for each ("Catadioptricker 7": ATK 1800 → 4200).

"Catadioptricker 7" attacks "D/D/D Supersight King Zero Maxwell", and at that moment, the former's effect activates, further increasing its ATK by the ATK of "Zero Maxwell" ("Catadioptricker 7": ATK 4200 → 7000). Reiji initially plans on activating the effect of "Zero Maxwell" to reduce the battle damage to zero; however, he realizes that since the effect only activates after the monster's destruction, it won't work if his LP drop to zero before that, so he activates his face-down "Zero Potential", allowing both players to draw one card. The attack continues and "Zero Maxwell" is destroyed, but since the card Reiji drew was a "D/D/D" monster, "Zero Potential" reduces the battle damage to zero. Isaac Sets a card. During his End Phase, "Catadioptricker 7" returns to his hand.

Turn 5: Reiji
Reiji activates "D/D Scale Surveyor" (PS9) and "D/D Extra Surveyor" (PS4) on his Pendulum Zones, allowing him to Pendulum Summon "Zero Maxwell" (2800/2500) from his Extra Deck. Upon his monster's Summon, since the total values of his Pendulum Scales exceed 12, Reiji performs a Transcendent Pendulum Summon to Summon the Level 12 "D/D/D/D Super-Dimensional Sovereign Emperor Zero Paradox" (3000/3000) from his hand. He activates the effect of "Zero Paradox", attempting to destroy all other cards on the field; since he controls a "Mirror Imagine" card, Isaac activates his face-down "Devil Mirage" to negate the effect of "Zero Paradox" and destroy all cards on Reiji's field, but Reiji activates his face-down "Zero Protection", preventing the destruction of his cards.

"Zero Maxwell" attacks Isaac directly, but Isaac activates the effect of the "Mirror Imagine Secondary 9" in his Pendulum Zone, repeating his reflector combo; he Special Summons "Mirror Imagine Reflector 1" (0/???) and redirects the attack to it. "Reflector 1" Special Summons and redirects the attack to "Mirror Imagine Reflector 2" (0/???) while reducing the ATK of "Zero Maxwell" by 1000. "Reflector 2" Special Summons and redirects the attack to "Mirror Imagine Reflector 3" (0/???) while further halving the attack of "Zero Maxwell". Finally, "Reflector 3" activates its effect, negating the attack. "Zero Paradox" attacks directly as well, but Isaac repeats his reflector combo a third time, using his third copies of "Reflector 1", "Reflector 2" and "Reflector 3".

With Isaac's Pendulum Monsters being sent to his Extra Deck, Reiji activates the effect of "Extra Surveyor" by banishing itself and "Scale Surveyor" from his Pendulum Zones; since Isaac's Extra Deck currently holds 15 Pendulum Monsters, the effect of "Extra Surveyor" allows Reiji to banish 15 cards from Isaac's Deck, completely depleting the remained of his Deck, as well as increasing the ATK of "Zero Paradox" by the same amount x200 and allowing it to perform an additional attack. However, Isaac activates his face-down "Exchange of the Mirror World", negating the Pendulum Effect of "Extra Surveyor" and returning all Pendulum Monsters in Isaac's Extra Deck to his Deck.

Duel continues in the next Scale.
