Yami Yugi and Weevil Underwood faced each other in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime. It was the first Duel of the Duelist Kingdom tournament. This is based on their Duel from the manga.

Prior Events

Yugi Muto and his friends, Joey Wheeler, Tristan Taylor and Téa Gardner, all get off the boat after landing at Duelist Kingdom, an island to host a big Duel Monsters tournament organized by Maximillion Pegasus, who kidnapped the soul of Yugi's Grandfather. Once the tournament begins Pegasus explains the rules, saying that duelists can challenge anyone at any time and wager their star chips. Duelists with 10 starchips are then gained access to Pegasus's Castle where whoever makes it will battle for the right to duel Pegasus in the final match.

After the opening ceremony, Yugi and his friends decide to find Weevil Underwood, who threw Yugi's Exodia cards overboard. They find him but he revealed he lured them into a trap. Yugi accepted Weevil's challenge wagering his only starchip and his deck against Weevil's 2 star chips.

The Duel

Featured Duel: Yami Yugi vs. Weevil Underwood

Monsters compatible with Forest (terrain) or Desert receive a 30% Field Power Bonus. This includes Beast, Beast-Warrior, Dinosaur, Insect, Plant, Rock and Zombie-Type monsters.

Turn 1: Weevil
Weevil Normal Summons "Killer Needle" (1200 → 1560/1000 → 1300) in Attack Position.

Turn 2: Yami Yugi
Yugi Normal Summons "Mammoth Graveyard" (1200 → 1560/800 → 1040) in Attack Position. "Mammoth Graveyard" attacks "Killer Needle", destroying both monsters in a Double KO.

Turn 3: Weevil
Weevil Normal Summons "Hercules Beetle" (1500 → 1950/2000 → 2600) in Attack Position.

Turn 4: Yami Yugi
Yugi Normal Summons "Feral Imp" (1300/1400) in Attack Position. Yugi activates the Equip Magic Card "Horn of the Unicorn", equipping it to a monster. He equips it to "Feral Imp". The effect of "Horn of the Unicorn" increases the ATK of the equipped monster by 700 ("Feral Imp": 1300 → 2000/1400). "Feral Imp" attacks "Hercules Beetle". As "Hercules Beetle" has a Field Power Bonus and it is battling a monster that has an Equip Card, the effects of "Horn of the Unicorn" are negated ("Feral Imp": 2000 → 1300/1400). "Hercules Beetle" destroys "Feral Imp" (Yugi: 2000 → 1350 LP).

Turn 5: Weevil
Weevil passes.

Turn 6: Yami Yugi
Yugi Sets a monster.

Turn 7: Weevil
Weevil Normal Summons "Basic Insect" (500 → 650/700 → 910) in Attack Position. Weevil activates the Equip Magic Card "Laser Cannon Armor", equipping it to an Insect-Type monster. He equips it to "Basic Insect". The effect of "Level 3 Laser Cannon" increases the ATK and DEF of the equipped monster by 300 ("Basic Insect": 650 → 950/910 → 1210). Weevil activates the Equip Magic Card "Lev. 2 Power Boost", equipping it to an Insect-Type monster. He equips it to "Basic Insect". The effect of "Lev. 2 Power Boost" increases the ATK of the equipped monster by 1200 and its DEF by 200 ("Basic Insect": 950 → 2150/1210 → 1410). Turn 17: Weevil
"Basic Insect" attacks Yugi's Set "Dark Magician" (2500/2100). As Weevil's monster declared an attack, Yugi activates his Set Trap Card "Mirror Force", redirecting the attack to every Attack Position monster Weevil controls. "Basic Insect" has 2150 ATK, so it and the the 1950 ATK "Hercules Beetle", 1560 ATK "Gokibore" and "Big Insect" and 1495 ATK "Kamakiriman" are all destroyed (Weevil: 2000 → 555 LP). Weevil Sets "Larvae Moth".

Turn 18: Yami Yugi
Yugi activates the Magic Card "Monster Recovery", returning his hand and all monsters he controls to his Deck and drawing five cards. He returns his Set "Dark Magician" and "Torike" from his field and four unknown cards from his hand to his Deck. Yugi Normal Summons "Kuriboh" in Attack Position. "Kuriboh" attacks Weevil's Set monster, but Weevil's Set Trap Card "Parasite Worm" activates as Yugi declared an attack, destroying all monsters he controls and inflicting damage to Yugi equal to their ATK. "Kuriboh" is destroyed (Yugi: 1350 → 1050 LP).

Turn 19: Weevil
Weevil Flip Summons "Larvae Moth" in Defense Position. Weevil equips "Larvae Moth" with "Cocoon of Evolution" via its own effect. The ATK and DEF of the equipped "Larvae Moth" become equal to that of "Cocoon of Evolution" ("Larvae Moth": 650 → 0/520 → 2000 → 2600). Turn 26: Yami Yugi
Yugi Normal Summons "Curse of Dragon" in Attack Position. Yugi activates the Magic Card "Burning Land", destroying the Field ("Larvae Moth": 0/2600 → 2000). "Gaia" attacks and destroys "Larvae Moth". As four of Weevil's turns had passed since he equipped "Larvae Moth" with "Cocoon of Evolution" and it was destroyed, he Special Summons "Great Moth" (2600/2500) in Attack Position.

Turn 27: Weevil
Weevil orders "Great Moth" to take flight, preventing it from attacking this turn and preventing land-bound monsters from attacking it.

Turn 29: Weevil
"Great Moth" attacks all land-based monsters and destroys Yugi's Set "Beaver Warrior" (1200/1500). At this point Weevil realizes Yugi has activated "Polymerization". As "Great Moth" attacked, its poisonous scales "Great Moth" continually decrease the ATK of "Gaia the Dragon Champion" ("Gaia the Dragon Champion": 2600 → 1900/2300).

Turn 30: Yami Yugi
Yugi draws "Makiu, the Magical Mist". Yugi activates the Spell Card "Makiu, the Magical Mist", dampening the air. This washes away the poisonous scales of "Great Moth" and stops the ATK of "Gaia the Dragon Champion" from decreasing further.
