[[Jaden Yuki]] is rushing through the streets. He is of [[Domino City]], late to for the entrance examinations exams for [[Duel Academy]], as because his train was running latedue to an accident. He determines Jaden states that he is excited because it's simply another challenge that was presented is a trial given to himto overcome (in the dub, and states hedoesn't specify the reason for being late, but remarks that he since he wasn't a student, they wouldn's excitedt throw him in detention for being late). As he runsthrough the streets, he sees he is about to collide with runs into [[Yugi Muto]], but is unable and falls to stop. His Deck is scattered as he hits the ground, scattering his [[Duel Disk]] and his [[Deck]]. As he Jaden picks up his cardsand apologizes, Yugi asks if he's Duels (in the dub, Yugi asks if Jaden is a [[Duelist]]). Jaden responds that he does, is and that he's is on his way to take a test for the Duel Academyentrance exam. Yugi smiles, takes out his Deck , and picks out one card. As Jaden recognizes Yugi, which he calls is given a "lucky card". He by him, who states the card that it wants to go where he was going. Zane explains that Crowler has never lost any of his Duels when he Summoned his "Ancient Gear Golem", adding how he wouldn't have though Jaden would have the skill to make Crowler get serious. Alexis responds that Crowler is being temperamental and believes that Jaden doesn't have a chance to win. (in the dub, Zane and Alexis talk about Jaden's carefree attitude, and Alexis says it's good Jaden is showing some backbone). Crowler laughs and he declares his attack with "Ancient Gear Golem" with "Mechanized Melee", destroying "Avian". Syrus says that "Avian" had no chance with only 1000 [[DEF]] against "Ancient Gear Golem's" 3000 [[ATK]]. Bastion adds that the effect of "Ancient Gear Golem" inflicts [[piercing]] damage, to which Syrus declares that the monster breaks all the rules. The holographic fist of "Ancient Gear Golem" passes through to Jaden, causing his Life Points to drop to 2000. Crowler asks if Jaden lost his will to fight, but Jaden laughs in response, stating that he's touched that Crowler is fighting his hardest against him. Crowler's reasoning is that he never intends for a drop-out boy like Jaden to enter the academy. Jaden believes his next turn is where his true power will be put to the encouragement test (in the dub, he believes Crowler is impressed by him). As he moves to draw, he gave hears something calling out to him. He draws, and sees it is "Winged Kuriboh" given to him by Yugi. When Jaden wonders if "Winged Kuriboh" is the one, the monster's wings glow in the card artwork. Jaden starts believing in him, causing the monster to wink at him. He Normal Summons "Winged Kuriboh" in Defense Position and Sets a card to end his turn. Crowler says that "Winged Kuriboh" may be a rare card, but it is only a low-[[Level]] monster and states that Summoning it Defense Position is useless against the piercing [[battle damage]] effect of "Ancient Gear Golem". He condescendingly remarks that a small fry monster suits a small fry player before beginning his turn (in the dub, Crowler describes himself as a "master technician", calls "Winged Kuriboh" a "pedestrian" monster against his "Ancient Gear Golem", and calls Summoning it a textbook mistake). Crowler attacks and uses "Ancient Gear Golem" to attack and destroy "Winged Kuriboh". Jaden apologizes to "Winged Kuriboh", while Crowler questions why Jaden didn't lose his Life Points (in the dub, he tells Jaden to "check his gear", implying he believed that Jaden's Duel Disk was broken). Jaden reveals that on the turn "Winged Kuriboh" is destroyed, all damage he takes becomes 0, much to Crowler's surprise. Alexis is surprised that Crowler didn't know much about "Winged Kuriboh", and Zane responds that there are some cards that even professors don't know about in the boundless world of Dueling (in the dub, Zane calls the effect an "obscure technique" so it's believable that Crowler would not know it). Alexis says that that's why Dueling is so interesting. Crowler asks if that was the small fry monster's effect, and Jaden tells him he would pay for insulting his friend, who risked his life to protect him. Crowler asks why there would be a problem with him calling a throwaway monster a small fry (in the dub, Crowler calls "Winged Kuriboh" lame). Jaden responds that the cry of "AvianWinged Kuriboh" is what will use signal his other monsters to action. He activates his face-down Trap Card "Hero Signal", causing a bright light to shine the "H" emblem of the "Elemental Hero" [[archetype]]. Jaden Special Summons what he calls his unyielding fighting second "[[Elemental Hero]]", "[[Elemental Hero Burstinatrix (anime)|Burstinatrix]]" in Attack Position (in the dub, he is less eloquent and simply activates the card). Jaden begins his next turn drawing "[[Skyscraper (anime)|Skyscraper]]" and tells Winged Kuriboh that he's held onto his encouragement. He declares that "Avian's" indomitable spirit to come back from will be reborn as he activates the deadSpell Card, playing "The Warrior Returning Alive" to return "Avian" from his [[Graveyard]] to his hand (in the dub, he simply explains the effect and plays the card). He then , which he proceeds to Normal Summons him Summon in Attack Position. Crowler asks what good Jaden's fragile are cheap comic book Heroes heroes will do - , since they're only are [[Normal Monster]]s. Jaden states that "Avian" and "Burstinatrix" are only their temporary Normal Monster forms. He tells Crowler he'll be surprised to see their true form and activates "[[Polymerization]]" (in the dub, Crowler calls the Summoning of "Avian" an amateur amateurish mistake , and then proceeds to ask the students a question (most likely what Jaden was doing wrong) before Jaden interrupts him, saying he simply says he wasn't done yet). He then [[Fusion Material|fuses ]] "Avian" and "Burstinatrix" to [[Fusion Summon]] "[[Elemental HERO Hero Flame Wingman(anime)|Elemental Hero HERO Flame Wingman]]" in Attack Position, which he calls his "favorite card". Bastion says that Syrus admires "Flame Wingman" and Bastion explains that it can only be Fusion Summoned via fusion and that is its effect will can inflict damage to the opponent equal to the ATK of any monster it destroys [[Destroyed by battle|destroys by battle]]. Syrus says that that may be truepoints out "Flame Wingman's" 2100 ATK, but its ATK which is still less than that of "Ancient Gear Golem". , but Bastion says replies that if Jaden is really #1, he'll work something it out. Syrus responds that he'll is actually #110 (in the dub, Bastion calls Jaden and Syrus friends, and Syrus asks if they really seemed like friends).  Crowler offers to give Jaden a special lecture. He states lesson, stating that cards like that are with less ATK than other stronger monsters including his "Ancient Gear Golem" is useless in this Duel and that Jaden would do well to remember that. As "Flame Wingman" dives towards the "Ancient Gear Golem", Crowler points out the difference between both monsters' ATK (in the dub, Crowler challenges Jaden to bring on his monster, since the Field Spell hasn't reduced the ATK of his "Ancient Gear Golem" ). While "Flame Wingman" touches down on the ground and performs a high jump above the "Ancient Gear Golem's" head, Jaden quips tells Crowler that Heroes heroes always win. He and reveals that "Skyscraper" increases the ATK of "Elemental HeroHERO" monsters that battle with monsters that have higher ATK by 1000, much to Crowler's shock. "Flame Wingman" is engulfed in flames as it its ATK rises to 3100 and completes its dive, destroying attacking "Ancient Gear Golem"with "Skydive Scorcher" and destroying it in an explosion. Jaden tells While Crowler that he'll now take damage equal to laments his destroyed monster (getting hit in the ATK head with a piece of debris), Jaden explains "Ancient Gear Golem". Thus, CrowlerFlame Wingman's Life Points fall " damaging effect to 0 and Crowler. The "Ancient Gear Golem" literally falls apart collapses on top of himCrowler as his Life Points fall to 0. Jaden points at Crowler with two fingers and says "Gotcha!", telling Crowler that he thought the Duel was fun(in the dub, Jaden says "That's game!" and assumes he passed his exam). The holograms disappear, and a defeated Crowler asks how he was defeated by a drop-out boy. Chazz's , Taiyou, and Raizou watch with popped-eyes pop, shocked that to witness Crowler was just beaten getting defeated by an examinee (in the dub, he Chazz states it must have been dumb luck). Alexis says that Jaden is pretty interesting, and Zane simply walks away (in the dub, she Alexis says that Jaden has a future at Duel Academy). Syrus cheers for Jaden, and Bastion thinks that Jaden may be a great rival. Jaden jumps around cheering, and then pulls out "Winged Kuriboh", telling it he'll be counting on it, and calling it "partner". "Winged Kuriboh " winks in response.

Duel is already in progress. [[Syrus Truesdale|Syrus]] controls [[control]]s a [[Set]] monster, while the examiner controls no cards.

"Flame Wingman" attacks "Ancient Gear Golem". The effect of "Skyscraper" activates during damage calculation ("Elemental Hero Flame Wingman": 2100 → 3100/1200ATK). "Flame Wingman" then destroys "Ancient Gear Golem" (Crowler : 3000 → 2900LP).
