"Happily Never After", known as "Yellow Spring Frog! Icky Frog! Death Frog!" in the Japanese version is the seventy-fourth episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX anime. It first aired in Japan on March 1, 2006 and in the United States on October 12, 2006.

As Duel Academy plans for an upcoming field trip, the Society of Light is gaining strength rapidly, with most of the Obelisk Blue and Ra Yellow students having been converted. Meanwhile, Jaden Yuki faces off against Princess Rose, an enforcer sent by Sartorius, with the victor choosing the destination of the field trip.

Summary

Duel Academy's field trip date is approaching. Dr. Crowler and Vice-Chancellor Bonaparte argue about where they will take the students. Sartorius and the large contingent of Obelisk Blue students that Chazz Princeton converted to the Society of Light enter the room. Sartorius wants to pick where they go, and he has most of the student population backing up his choice. Jaden Yuki enters the office accompanied by Tyranno Hassleberry, Bastion Misawa and Syrus Truesdale. He also has a place to recommend for the school trip. The Society members order him to get lost until he is smart enough to join them. Jaden states he has equal chance of choosing as he is currently the #1 student, It's determined that Jaden will Duel a Society member, with the winner being permitted to choose the trip destination (Sartorius also mentions if Jaden loses then he has to promise to join the Society). Sartorius chooses Princess Rose to represent the Society of Light. She claims she can see Duel Spirits and that hers are three frog princes, referencing well-known fairy tales. Jaden ultimately wins the Duel, and announces that the field trip will be to Domino City, the site of the Battle City tournament.

  • Activates "Frog Resurrection": By discarding a WATER monster from her hand, she can Special Summon a WATER monster from her Graveyard. She discards 1 "T.A.D.P.O.L.E." from her hand to summon the first "T.A.D.P.O.L.E." from her Graveyard (0/0), in Attack Position.
  • Tributes "T.A.D.P.O.L.E." to Summon "Des Frog" (1900/0) in Attack Position: As it was Tribute Summoned, "Des Frog" can Special Summon, from her hand and Deck, 1 "Des Frog" for each "T.A.D.P.O.L.E." in Rose's Graveyard. With 2 "T.A.D.P.O.L.E." in her Graveyard, 2 more "Des Frog"s (1900/0 each) are summoned from her Deck in Attack Position.
  • Activates "Des Croaking": As Rose controls 3 "Des Frog"s, she can destroy all the cards Jaden controls on the field. "Neo-Spacian Air Hummingbird" is destroyed.
  • All 3 "Des Frog"s attack Jaden directly (Jaden: 6500 → 4600 → 2700 → 800).
  • Activates "Polymerization", sending her 3 "Des Frog"s to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon "D.3.S. Frog" (2500/2000) in Attack Position.


Turn 4: Jaden


Turn 5: Rose

  • Activates "Pot of Greed", drawing 2 cards.
  • Activates "Foolish Burial", sending "Treeborn Frog" from her Deck to the Graveyard.
  • "D.3.S. Frog" gains 500 ATK for every "Treeborn Frog" in Rose's Graveyard. With 1 currently present, its ATK rises to 3000.
  • Activates "Flute of Hammelin": Since "Treeborn Frog" was sent to the Graveyard, both Rose and Jaden must now send all other "Treeborn Frog"s from their hands and Decks to their Graveyards. Rose sends 2 more "Treeborn Frogs" from her Deck to the Graveyard, but Jaden currently has no "Treeborn Frog"s in his hand or Deck.
  • "D.3.S. Frog" gains 1000 more ATK, due to 2 more "Treeborn Frog"s in Rose's Graveyard (4000/2000).
  • "D.3.S. Frog" attacks and destroys "Mudballman"
  • Jaden activates his face-down "Hero Signal", Special Summoning "Elemental Hero Avian" (1000/1000) from his Deck in Attack Position.
  • Activates "De-Fusion", separating "D.3.S. Frog" into the 3 "Des Frogs" in her Graveyard (1900/0 each) in Attack Position.
  • Uses 1 of her "Des Frog"s to attack "Elemental Hero Avian"
  • Jaden activates his face-down "Hero Ring" and equips it to "Elemental Hero Avian": While equipped with "Hero Ring", "Elemental Hero Avian" cannot be attacked by any of Rose's monsters if their ATK is 1900 or more.
  • Tributes her 3 "Des Frogs" to Special Summon "Amphibian Angel" (1400/0) in Attack Position: Since she Special Summoned this monster by Tributing 3 "Frog" monsters, she can Special Summon as many "Frog" monsters (except "Frog the Jam") from her Graveyard as possible. She targets the 3 "Des Frogs" (1900/0 each) and "D.3.S. Frog" (2500/2000), with all 4 in Attack Position.[Notes 2]
  • "D.3.S. Frog" gains 500 ATK for every "Treeborn Frog" in Rose's Graveyard, and there are currently 3 (4000/2000).


Turn 6: Jaden

  • Activates "Pot of Greed", drawing 2 cards.
  • Summons "Elemental Hero Burstinatrix" (1200/800) in Attack Position.
  • Activates "O - Oversoul", Special Summoning "Clayman" (800/2000) from his Graveyard in Attack Position.
  • Activates "Skyscraper": When attacking a stronger monster that Rose controls, any of Jaden's "Elemental Heroes" will gain 1000 ATK.
  • Equips "Elemental Hero Avian" with "Power Charger": When "Elemental Hero Avian" destroys a monster in battle, "Power Charger" allows "Avian" to gain ATK equal to the ATK of the destroyed monster
  • Activates "Feather Shot", which allows "Elemental Hero Avian" to gain 1 attack for each monster Jaden controls. As he controls 3, "Avian" gains 3 attacks.
  • "Elemental Hero Avian" attacks 1 "Des Frog", with "Skyscraper" giving "Avian" 1000 extra ATK during the battle. "Des Frog" is destroyed (Rose: 4000 → 3900).
  • Due to "Power Charger", "Avian" gains ATK equal to the ATK of the destroyed "Des Frog" (2900/1000).
  • "Elemental Hero Avian" attacks and destroys the second "Des Frog" ("Skyscraper's" effect does not activate, as "Elemental Hero Avian's" ATK is now stronger than the ATK of "Des Frog") (Rose: 3900 → 2900).
  • Due to "Power Charger", "Avian" gains ATK equal to the ATK of the second destroyed "Des Frog" (4800/1000).
  • "Elemental Hero Avian" attacks and destroys the third "Des Frog" (Rose: 2900 → 0).
  • Jaden wins.

  1. ↑ In the TCG/OCG, for its effect to activate, "Elemental HERO Bubbleman" must be the only card you control upon being Summoned while you have no other cards in your hand.
  2. ↑ In the TCG/OCG, "De-Fusion" sends a Fusion Monster back to the Extra Deck, not to the Graveyard, so "D.3.S. Frog" would not be able to be Special Summoned.
