  • Use the effect of "Hazy Pillar" to help Summon "Hazy Flame" monsters for this card's Xyz Summon, as well as add more Xyz Materials to this card.
    • Although you can boost this card's Xyz Materials past 5 this way (in order to boost its ATK/DEF and use its banish effect multiple times), that will make this card vulnerable, since it is only protected against card effect destruction while it has exactly 5 Xyz Materials.
  • Go on the offensive with this card's 5-Xyz Material effect, using cards like "Dark Hole" and "Torrential Tribute", since this card will be unaffected by their effect.
  • While this card can be easily Summoned and powered up to 5 Xyz Materials with only "Hazy Flame" monsters, it doesn't have to be. The following additions can benefit your "Hazy Flame" Deck:
    • "Goka, the Pyre of Malice": A potential Xyz Material for Basiltrice that can be easily Special Summoned (preferably destroying "Hazy Flame Cerbereus" with its effect when it is Summoned). Also, its "Fireball Tokens" can be useful for Tribute Summoning "Hazy Flame" monsters when you have no "Hazy" Spell/Trap Cards to help you, when you can perform tribute summons in addition to your normal summon/set, and/or want to use "Hazy Flame" monsters' effects which tribute FIRE monsters for their cost.
      • Its "Fireball Tokens" are also ideal to repeatedly Tribute Summon "Fenghuang" (a viable Level 6 FIRE monster), clearing your opponent's Set Spell/Trap Cards via its effect until you're ready to Xyz Summon Basiltrice.
    • "Flamvell Firedog": Can Special Summon some "Hazy Flame" monsters from your Deck, as well as the Level 6 "Laval Lancelord". Also provides potential Rank 4 options.
    • "Blaster, Dragon Ruler of Infernos": Its destruction effect can be used as a method to send "Hazy Flame" monsters from your hand to the Graveyard, setting up for "Rekindling" or the effect of "Hazy Flame Hydra".
      • Can serve as an excuse to run "Miniaturize", which you can use on your opponent's monsters, or on this card so that it can be used to help Xyz Summon Basiltrice.
      • Can banish Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit and/or any FIRE monsters from graveyard for its special summon. This allows you to use Tefnuit and Hazy Flame Griffin in the same deck more effectively.
    • "Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit": Not a FIRE monster, but makes for great tribute fodder since it can special summon itself and Tyhone #2. This often provides the extra push players need for a 5-material Basiltrice. The best part is that Tyhone #2 can be in your hand, deck, or graveyard for its special summon via Tefnuit, meaning that it can be searched, dropped out of the hand, or recycled, depending on what you need.
    • "Overlay Booster": Can serve as Tribute fodder for "Hazy Flame" monsters. Its Graveyard effect can also be put to good use when Basiltrice has a high number of Xyz Materials.
  • While this card has 4 or more materials attached, equip it with "Metalsilver Armor" to prevent your opponent from targeting any monsters on the field, including their own.
  • If your opponent controls 2 or more monsters, you can Special Summon 2 "Volcanic Queens" and use either "Remove Brainwashing" or "Owner's Seal" to put them in your control. You'll get rid of two of your opponent's monsters and will be able to Xyz Summon this card.
  • Since this card loses its 5-Xyz-Material effect if it has more than exactly 5 Xyz Materials attached, you can use "Xyz Tribalrivals" as a substitute for the effect, while also providing the benefit of its 2nd effect. Also works with 2 to 4 materials.

Countering

  • This card's abilities make it very difficult to get rid of once it's on the field. The simplest way to beat it is to either prevent/negate its Summoning, or to overpower it.
  • Your opponent might be hesitant to use its materials for its banish effect, force them to do so to remove its biggest defenses.
    • Monsters it can't defeat otherwise like "Number 9: Dyson Sphere" or an "Earthbound Immortal", or other Direct attackers with non-targeting effects work nicely, should you be able to use them.
  • "Madolche Queen Tiaramisu" can use its effect to return "Basilitrice" to the Extra Deck, as it neither targets nor destroys.
  • Use cards like "Stumbling", "No Entry!!", "Zero Gravity", or similar others to switch it to Defense Position, where it is much easier to destroy by battle.
  • Use "Royal Decree" to prevent your opponent activating Trap cards to stop your attempts to eliminate this card. Keep in mind that you will not be able to use Trap cards either, though.
