"Tenyi VS Mathmech" (てんVSバーサスザン Ten'i Bāsasu Zanki) is the fourth chapter of the Yu-Gi-Oh! OCG Structures manga. It was first published September 21, 2019, in the V Jump magazine.

Shoma continues his Duel against Dark Kuroda, who swears to make Shoma pay for "dishonoring" his beloved sister.

Summary[edit]

Continuing the Duel in progress, much like his first Duel against Jukyu, Shoma finds himself against the wall against Kuroda's Deck strategy. Unlike Jukyu, who filled his field with strong monsters, Kuroda only controls a single monster; however, that monster, "Geomathmech Final Sigma", is unaffected by card effects while it is in the Extra Monster Zone, and since it's been equipped with "Mathmech Billionblade Nayuta", Kuroda can increase its ATK to become nearly indestructible as well. Kuroda tells Shoma that he will not forget this feeling of disgust for the disgraceful act he has committed. Shoma thinks to himself that all he did was ask Kuroda's sister, Tsukiko Kuroda, if she wanted to Duel, but says nothing.

Ready to rise to the challenge and overcome Kuroda's "Final Sigma", Shoma begins his turn. In no time at all, he brings out his faithful "Tenyi" companions - "Draco Masters of the Tenyi" and "Berserker of the Tenyi". Jukyu, watching from the sidelines, is impressed to see how easily Shoma performed that combo. Again similarly to his Duel against Jukyu, Shoma uses the wide range of his "Tenyi Spirita" to overcome his opponent's power; in this case, using "Vishuda" to return "Nayuta" to Kuroda's hand.

Shoma begins the battle in earnest, attacking "Final Sigma" with "Berserker" and destroying both at once. Kuroda uses his monster's effect to add a "Mathmech" card from his Deck to his hand to replace his monster, but using the effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Shthana" in his Graveyard, Shoma revives his own monster immediately. He attacks with both "Draco Masters" and "Berserker of the Tenyi", inflicting massive damage to Kuroda and reducing his LP to 2400.

Kuroda staggers back from the force of the blow, wondering how he, the descendant of darkness, could take so much damage. He then coughs up a large amount of blood. Shoma, on seeing this, panics, stammering that someone should call an ambulance. Jukyu advises Shoma not to worry about Kuroda's health, to Shoma's confusion. Jukyu explains that it's fake blood; Kuroda keeps packs of it prepared, so he can perform this routine whenever he takes large amounts of damage.

Kuroda laughs as he rises again, musing on how long it's been since he's felt pain like this. Shoma points out that the Solid Vision system of their Duel Disks don't create solid constructs, but Kuroda ignores him. All of this, he declares, is just Shoma's way of seducing his sister, and corrupt her. Kuroda vows to crush Shoma, even if he must sink into the abyss of bottomless darkness to do so. Jukyu gripes that Kuroda is still stuck on believing Shoma was trying something like that, and his sister, also watching the Duel, agrees that he deserves to be defeated now. Even Shoma, who has been very patient with Kuroda's eccentricities, just tells Kuroda to continue the Duel, ending his turn.

Kuroda begins his turn, and declares that his mighty will can no longer hold back the dark power within, and Shoma will learn regret for having awakened this power in him. He raises his arm, aching with the power flowing through it, and draws upon the power of the reviving abyss, performing his Darkness Draw, which coincidentally looks identical to a regular draw. Kuroda laughs, seeing that the abyss has stared back into him and found him worthy. He urges Shoma to witness and go mad from the new power he wields.

First, he uses his "Mathmetch Equation" to revive "Geomathmech Magma". Using "Magma" and the "Nayuta" in his hand, he could destroy "Berserker", then use his monster's effect to destroy both of Shoma's remaining cards, but Kuroda doesn't find this a fitting fate for someone like Shoma. No, Kuroda will eviscerate Shoma with a single attack, on this single turn. He then Summons "Mathmech Subraction", which he tunes to the Tuner Synchro Monster "Magma" to Synchro Summon a second "Geomathmech Final Sigma", which he equips with "Mathmech Billionblade Nayuta".

Jukyu, not one to talk, is annoyed that Kuroda has set up the exact same board as last turn, but Kuroda retorts that that sort of narrow-minded thinking is what made Jukyu the weakest of the Four Duel Kings of elementary school. Kuroda Summons "Mathmech Nabla", who he Tributes to Summon "Mathmech Sigma" from his Deck. However, "Sigma" isn't the important piece of the combo - when sent to the GY, "Nabla" allows "Final Sigma" to attack twice during this turn.

Kuroda prepares to battle, and declares that when he attacks, he will use the effect of "Nayuta" to send "Mathmech Multiplication" to the Graveyard. Not only will this give his monster 500 ATK, but if it is sent to the GY, "Multiplication" will double the ATK of "Final Sigma" again, ending with a total ATK of 7000. And if he attacks Shoma's "Draco Masters", which has been weakened to 1600 ATK by his "Mathmech" monsters, Shoma will take 5400 damage, and that damaged will be doubled to 10800 by his monster's effect. With this combo, his "Crimson Spiral Cutter", as he calls it, Shoma will finally be defeated.

Kuroda attacks, but Shoma activates his Set "Waterfall of Dragon Souls". He clears his hand and field of all his Wyrm monsters, and in exchange draws four new cards. Since the effects of "Nayuta" and "Final Sigma" only apply when they battle a monster, and Shoma no longer controls one, Kuroda can only attack Shoma directly with his monster for 3000 damage, reducing Shoma's LP to 5000. Annoyed that Shoma has avoided being dragged into the dark, Kuroda ends his turn.

Shoma begins his turn by activating "Monster Reborn" to revive "Shaman of the Tenyi", whose effect he uses to revive "Berserker of the Tenyi". Using the effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Ashuna" in his Graveyard, Shoma Summons also Summons another copy of "Vishuda" from his Deck. Finally, Shoma brings out a monster from the other half of his Deck - "Chiwen, Light of the Yang Zing". He tunes "Vishuda" to "Chiwen" to Synchro Summon "Draco Berserker of the Tenyi", the most recent addition to his "Tenyi" Deck.

With the effect of "Vishuda" in his Graveyard, Shoma returns "Nayuta" back to Kuroda's hand once again. With it gone, Shoma begins his assault, first by destroying "Mathmech Sigma" with "Draco Berserker of the Tenyi". This activates his monster's effect, allowing his monster to gain the ATK of the destroyed monster and attack again. Shoma attacks and destroys "Geomathmech Final Sigma" with "Draco Berserker of the Tenyi", reducing Kuroda's LP to 1400. Kuroda states that the effect of "Final Sigma" allows him to add another "Mathmech Equation" to his hand, but he closes his eyes and thinks to himself that despite that, this Duel has already been decided.

Shoma attacks Kuroda directly with "Berserker of the Tenyi", reducing Kuroda's LP to 0. Kuroda stands firm against the force of the attack this time, his pride keeping him on his feet (and also due to the fact that the Solid Vision system doesn't inflict any "force" on players). Tsukiko is shocked that Shoma actually managed to defeat her brother, who was the greatest of the Four Duel Kings. Kuroda laments that the power of darkness wasn't enough to protect his sister's purity. Tsukiko calls out to her brother, seemingly ready to comfort him, until she darkly tells him to shut up already. Kuroda balks and meekly agrees.

Shoma approaches Kuroda and commends him for a great Duel. He especially can't wait to hear what sort of Summoning speeches and attack names he'll come up in their next Duel. Kuroda, finally letting the act drop a little, smiles, wondering if a whelp like Shoma would really become an ally to the servant of darkness. Tsukiko asks Shoma that he play against her next time, which Shoma accepts eagerly. Jukyu notes to Shoma that he's become friends with a crazy pair of siblings, and that he's getting into more than he expects with them.

Featured Duel: Shoma Yusa vs Dark Kuroda[edit]

Duel continues from the previous Chapter. Both players have 8000 LP. Kuroda controls "Geomathmech Final Sigma" (L12|3000/0) equipped with "Mathmech Billionblade Nayuta". It is the start of Shoma's first turn.

Turn 2: Shoma
Note: Shoma's full turn is not depicted during the chapter itself; however, a page from the end of the chapter describes the full turn in detail.

Shoma's starting hand contains "Tenyi Spirit - Ashuna", two copies of "Tenyi Spirit - Mapura", "Jet Synchron", "Vessel for the Dragon Cycle", and "Waterfall of Dragon Souls".

As he controls no Effect Monsters, Shoma activates the effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Ashuna" in his hand, Special Summoning it (L7|1600/2600). He then sets it (1 non-Link "Tenyi" monster) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Monk of the Tenyi" (1000|↓) into the Extra Monster Zone. Next, he activates "Vessel for the Dragon Cycle" to send a Wyrm monster from his Deck to the Graveyard, then, since he controls a Non-Effect Monster, he can add a "Tenyi" monster with a different name from his Deck to his hand. He sends "Tenyi Spirit - Vishuda" to the Graveyard, then adds "Tenyi Spirit - Adhara" to his hand. As he controls no Effect Monsters, Shoma activates the effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Adhara" in his hand, Special Summoning it (L1/0/0). He then sets "Monk of the Tenyi" and "Tenyi Spirit - Adhara" (2 Wyrm monsters) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Shaman of the Tenyi" (1600|↙↘) into the Extra Monster Zone.

Shoma activates the effect of "Shaman of the Tenyi" to discard a card, then Special Summon a Wyrm monster from his Graveyard; however, he will not be able to activate the effects of non-"Tenyi" monsters Special Summoned from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn. He discards "Jet Synchron" to Summon "Monk of the Tenyi". He then activates the effect of "Jet Synchron" in his Graveyard, sending one of the "Tenyi Spirit - Mapura" in his hand to the Graveyard to Special Summon it (L1|500/0) from his Graveyard. Shoma sets "Shaman of the Teni" and "Jet Synchron" (2+ monsters, including a Link Monster) into the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Draco Masters of the Tenyi" (2600|↙↓↘). Next, he activates the effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Ashuna" in his Graveyard, banishing it to Special Summon a "Tenyi" monster from his Deck. He Summons "Tenyi Spirit - Shthana" (L4|400/2000). He then Normal Summons the second "Tenyi Spirit - Mapura" (L4/600/1500) in his hand. Shoma sets "Monk of the Tenyi", "Tenyi Spirit - Shthana", and "Tenyi Spirit - Mapura" (2+ monsters, including a Link Monster) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Berserker of the Tenyi" (3000/↑↗↘) into a Main Monster Zone that "Draco Masters of the Tenyi" points to.

Shoma activates the effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Vishuda" in his Graveyard, banishing it to return a card Kuroda controls to his hand. He returns "Mathmech Billionblade Nayuta". He then attacks "Geomathmech Final Sigma" with "Berserker of the Tenyi", and having the same ATK, both monsters are destroyed by that battle. When "Final Sigma" is destroyed by battle, Kuroda can add a "Mathmech" card from his Deck to his hand. He adds "Mathmech Equation". Since a non-Effect Monster(s) he controls was destroyed, Shoma activates the effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Shthana" in his Graveyard, banishing it to Special Summon one of them. He Special Summons "Berserker of the Tenyi". Shoma attacks Kuroda directly with "Berserker of the Tenyi" and "Draco Masters of the Tenyi" (Kuroda LP: 8000 → 2400). Shoma activates the effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Adhara" in his Graveyard, banishing it to return one of his banished Wyrm monsters to his hand. He returns "Tenyi Spirit - Ashuna". Shoma Sets a card in his Spell & Trap Zone and ends his turn.

Turn 3: Kuroda
Kuroda activates "Mathmech Equation" to Special Summon a "Mathmech" monster from his Graveyard and increase its ATK by 1000 until the end of the turn. He Special Summons "Geomathmech Magma" (L8|2500/0) in Attack Position. He then activates the effect of "Mathmech Subtraction" in his hand by targeting "Draco Masters of the Tenyi", Special Summoning his monster (L4|1000/1000) from the hand in Attack Position and reducing the ATK of the targeted monster by 1000 ("Draco Masters": 2600 → 1600 ATK) until the end of the turn. Kuroda tunes Level 4 "Mathmech Subtraction" to the Level 8 Tuner Synchro Monster "Geomathmech Magma" to Synchro Summon a second "Geomathmech Final Sigma" into the Extra Monster Zone in Attack Position. While in the Extra Monster Zone, "Final Sigma" is unaffected by non-"Mathmech" card effects, and any battle damage it inflicts from a battle with an opponent's monster is doubled.

Kuroda activates "Mathmech Billionblade Nayuta", equipping it to "Final Sigma". If the equipped monster battles an opponent's monster, Kuroda can send a "Mathmech" monster from his Deck to the Graveyard to increase his monster's ATK by that sent monster's. He then Normal Summons "Mathmech Nabla" (L4|1000/1500), then activates its effect to Tribute a Cyberse monster and Special Summon a "Mathmech" monster from his Deck. He Tributes "Nabla" itself to Special Summon "Mathmech Sigma" (L4|1000/1500) in Defense Position. Since it was sent to the Graveyard, Kuroda activates the second effect of "Mathmech Nabla" to allow a Cyberse monster in his Extra Monster Zone to declare a second attack during the Battle Phase this turn. He chooses "Mathmech Procesor Final Sigma".

Kuroda declares his intent to attack "Draco Masters of the Tenyi" with "Geomathmech Final Sigma", and use the effect of "Mathmech Billionblade Nayuta" to send "Mathmech Multiplication" from his Deck to the Graveyard. In addition to the 500 ATK his monster would gain by Nayuta's effect, Kuroda would also be able to activate the effect of "Multiplication" in his Graveyard to double the ATK of "Final Sigma" in his Extra Monster Zone until the end of the turn, for a total ATK of 7000. If the attack succeeds, Shoma would take 5400 damage, which would then be doubled by the effect of "Final Sigma" to 10800, resulting in an One Turn Kill.

Kuroda attacks, but Shoma activates his Set "Waterfall of Dragon Souls". By sending any number of Wyrm monsters from his hand and/or field to the Graveyard, he can draw cards equal to the number of sent cards +1. He sends "Draco Masters of the Tenyi" and "Berserker of the Tenyi" on his field, and "Tenyi Spirit - Ashuna" in his hand, to the Graveyard, and therefore draws four cards. A replay occurs, and Kuroda attacks Shoma directly with "Geomathmech Final Sigma". Since he's no longer battling an opponent's monster, neither of his cards' effects can be used (Shoma LP: 8000 → 5000).

Turn 4: Shoma
Shoma activates "Monster Reborn" to Special Summon "Shaman of the Tenyi" from his Graveyard. He activates the effect of "Shaman of the Tenyi", discarding a card to Special Summon "Berserker of the Tenyi" from his Graveyard. Next, he activates the effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Ashuna" in his Graveyard, banishing it to Special Summon "Tenyi Spirit - Vishuda" (L7|1500/2500) from his Deck in Defense Position. He then Normal Summons "Chiwen, Light of the Yang Zing" (L1|0/0). He tunes Level 7 "Tenyi Spirit - Vishuda" to the Level 1 Tuner "Chiwen, Light of the Yang Zing" to Synchro Summon "Draco Berserker of the Tenyi" (L8|3000/0) into the Extra Monster Zone in Attack Position. Finally, he activates the effect of "Tenyi Spirit - Vishuda" in his Graveyard, banishing it to return "Mathmech Billionblade Nayuta" to Kuroda's hand.

Shoma attacks and destroys "Mathmech Sigma" with "Draco Berserker of the Tenyi". Since it destroyed a monster by battle, Shoma activates his monster's effect, increasing its ATK by the destroyed monster's ("Draco Berserker": 3000 → 4000 ATK) and allowing it to attack again during the Battle Phase. Shoma attacks and destroys "Geomathmech Final Sigma" with "Draco Berserker of the Tenyi" (Kuroda LP: 2400 → 1400). Shoma attacks Kuroda directly with "Berserker of the Tenyi" (Kuroda LP: 1400 → 0).
