"Incident Buried in Darkness" is the nineteenth episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS anime. It first aired in Japan on September 20, 2017, became available with official subtitles via Crunchyroll on the same day, and will air in Canada on November 3, 2018.

Akira skillfully uses his "Tindangle" Deck to fight against Playmaker. Playmaker also fights back with his Cyberses. As their fierce battle rages on, Akira starts talking about the incident ten years ago. At last, Yusaku's past is finally unveiled...

Featured Duel: Playmaker vs Akira Zaizen

Duel continues from the previous episode.

Turn 4: Playmaker
The effect of "Tindangle Hound" decreases the ATK of each monster Playmaker controls by 1000 for each monster linked to it ("Firewall Dragon": 2500 → 1500 ATK). As Playmaker controls a Link-4 or higher Link Monster, he activates the Spell Card "Linkage Hole", destroying monsters Akira controls up to the number of Link-3 or higher Link Monsters Playmaker controls. Playmaker controls the Link-4 "Firewall Dragon" and the Link-3 "Decode Talker", so he destroys "Tindangle Hound" and the face-down "Tindangle Angel" ("Firewall Dragon": 1500 → 2500 ATK, "Decode Talker": 1800 → 2800 ATK). As Akira controls no monsters, "Lemoine Point" is destroyed by its own effect. "Decode Talker" attacks Akira directly (Akira: 3900 → 1100 LP). As Akira took battle damage from Playmaker's attacking monster while Akira has three or more "Tindangle" monsters with different names in his GY, Akira activates his face-down Trap Card "Tindangle Delaunay", destroying the attacking monster, then Special Summoning "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" from his Extra Deck. He destroys "Decode Talker", then Special Summons "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" (0/↙↑↘) to the Extra Monster Zone. The effect of "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" increases its ATK by 1500 for each "Tindangle Hound" and "Tindangle Angel" in his GY ("Tindangle Acute Cerberus": 0 → 3000 ATK). Playmaker Sets a card.

Turn 5: Akira
"Tindangle Acute Cerberus" attacks "Firewall Dragon". Playmaker activates his face-down Trap Card "Doppler Phase Coating", targeting a Cyberse monster he controls and equipping "Doppler Phase Coating" to it. The effect of "Doppler Phase Coating" prevents the equipped "Firewall Dragon" from being destroyed by battle once per turn. The attack continues and "Firewall Dragon" is not destroyed (Playmaker: 2000 → 1500 LP). At the end of the Battle Phase, as "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" declared an attack, Akira activates its effect, Special Summoning a "Tindangle Token". He Special Summons it (0/0) in Defense Position to a zone "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" points to. The effect of "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" increases its ATK by 500 for each "Tindangle" monster it points to ("Tindangle Acute Cerberus": 3000 → 3500 ATK). Akira Sets two cards.

Turn 6: Playmaker
Akira activates his face-down Trap Card "Gergonne's End", targeting a "Tindangle" Link Monster he controls and equipping "Gergonne's End" to it. He targets "Tindangle Acute Cerberus". The effect of "Gergonne's End" prevents the equipped "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" from being destroyed by battle or card effects, also Playmaker cannot target it with card effects. Playmaker activates the Spell Card "Alert Lancer", allowing a Cyberse monster to inflict piercing battle damage to Akira if it attacks a Defense Position monster. "Firewall Dragon" attacks a "Tindangle Token". Akira activates his face-down Continuous Trap Card "Morley's Shield". During damage calculation, as a "Tindangle" monster in Akira's Main Monster Zone is battling, he activates the effect of "Morley's Shield", preventing him from taking any battle damage from that battle. The attack continues and the "Tindangle Token" is destroyed ("Tindangle Acute Cerberus": 3500 → 3000 ATK).

Turn 7: Akira
Akira draws and subsequently activates the Continuous Spell Card "Nagel's Protection". The effect of "Nagel's Protection" prevents "Tindangle" monsters in Akira's Main Monster Zones from being destroyed by battle or Playmaker's card effects. "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" attacks "Firewall Dragon". If Akira's "Tindangle" monster inflicts battle damage to Playmaker, the effect of "Nagel's Protection" doubles the damage once per turn. The attack continues and "Firewall Dragon" is not destroyed (Playmaker: 1500 → 500 LP). At the end of the Battle Phase, as "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" declared an attack, Akira activates its effect, Special Summoning a "Tindangle Token". He Special Summons it (0/0) in Defense Position to the zone the bottom-right Link Arrow of "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" points to ("Tindangle Acute Cerberus": 3000 → 3500 ATK).

Turn 8: Playmaker
Playmaker Sets a card.

Duel continues in the next episode.
