"Final Battle Above the Clouds" is the fifty-seventh episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS anime. It first aired in Japan on June 20, 2018.

Playmaker manages to locate Bohman, and challenges him to a Duel in order to take back Jin's consciousness. Having Dueled Bohman before, Playmaker expects that he'll use the same tactics. However, Bohman has become a much stronger Duelist than before, and drives Playmaker into a corner. Bohman then starts talking about his past. Just who is he...

Summary

Bohman stands in the pit of slime, his face contorted with rage.

The voice of the man who rewrote Bohman's memories tells him to wake up along with his new memories. Playmaker is coming. Bohman sits up from a bath of black sludge and then stands up as the sludge drips off his body. Gone is his stoic expression, now replaced by a fierce look of anger, and he yells Playmaker's name and declares that he's been waiting for this moment.

Playmaker and Ai emerge from the canyon.

The oblivious Playmaker and Ai continue through the canyons of Windy's world, and Ai comments that they've traveled really far and declares that they'll defeat them today. They made him suffer by feeding him a strange virus, now it's payback time. Playmaker points out that's only if they're really here, and Ai insists that they are, then gasps in surprise as they see the end of the canyon coming up. The cliffs end over a bright blue sky above a layer of soft yellow clouds, and Ai calls it pretty. Playmaker flies over the clouds, and Ai looks around, protesting that nothing's here and wondering if Windy tricked them. Playmaker reminds him that Windy said there was a chance, he never promised them. Ai admits that's true, but doesn't seem sure and curses that this was a waste of time. Then he sees something ahead and asks what it is. Playmaker suggests they go, and for once, Ai agrees and they fly towards the structure, a series of Roman-style columns projecting from the clouds. They reach the columns and look around, but see no-one, as Ai points out.

Bohman and Harlan rise from the clouds.

Then the ground begins to shake far beneath them, and the columns are shaken to pieces and fall into the clouds below them. Ai asks in shock what's going on, and then a giant stone hand erupts from the clouds in front of them. Ai cries Playmaker's name, and Playmaker gasps "What?!" in shock as he barely dodges the reaching hand. Ai screams as another stone hand erupts from the clouds and swipes at them, and Ai cries that it's another one as Playmaker dodges to the side. Then a massive stone Roman statue erupts from the clouds in front of Playmaker, with Bohman standing on the crest of the helmet, now clad in black, white and gold armor, and Harlan reclining on the statue's forehead. Bohman tells Playmaker that he's been waiting for him, and Playmaker calls Bohman's name. Ai seems surprised that Bohman showed up, and notes that he seems different from before. He wonders if Bohman changed his image, and Playmaker orders Bohman to return Kolter's brother's consciousness data. As he flies up to Bohman's level, Bohman agrees, but states that if he wins... Ai finishes that they get to have him, right? But Bohman claims to have no interest in Ai, much to the DARK Ignis's shock, and Bohman muses on what he gets if he wins, then claims that Playmaker will find out when their Duel ends. Ai is too busy being deflated by Bohman's lack of interest in him, collapsing onto Playmaker's Duel Disk and stating that he can't believe his boom is already over. Another Roman stone statue rises from the clouds behind them to face Bohman's, and then both statues extend their free hands and a Master Duel field appears in between them. Ai and Playmaker recognize the field, and Bohman tells Playmaker to follow him, challenging him to a Duel. He leaps down to the outstretched hand of his statue, and Ai notes that Bohman was fleeing last time, but really wants to Duel this time, and he calls it suspicious. Playmaker notes that Bohman must really have a plan this time, but claims that he expected that from the start. He flies down to the other statue's hand and declares that he'll end it here, leaping off his Duel Board. He accepts Bohman's challenge, and Bohman declares that today he'll stain Playmaker's disrespectful face in the color of despair. Harlan calls Bohman "big brother", and Bohman tells Harlan to stay there. Harlan replies that he will, and he thinks to himself that he'll observe the power given to Bohman. Bohman states that he's coming, and Playmaker tells him to bring it, and they both declare "Duel!"

Bohman Link Summons "Burn Hydradrive" despite taking the first turn.

Bohman declares that he'll go first, much to Playmaker's surprise, and he Special Summons "Hydradrive Booster" from his hand in Attack Position. He explains that he can Special Summon it when neither of them control any monsters in the Main Monster Zones. He chants "Appear! The circuit that connects the truth!" and declares that the Summoning condition is one "Hydradrive" monster, setting "Hydradrive Booster" in the Link Arrow to Link Summon the Link-1 "Burn Hydradrive". He explains that "Burn Hydradrive" can attack Playmaker directly when he controls a FIRE monster, and Ai notes that there it is; this time Bohman has Summoned a fire one. Playmaker agrees, recalling from their last Duel that Bohman's "Hydradrive" monsters can attack them directly when their monsters share Attributes. He asks in surprise if it's the same Deck as before, and Ai states that of course it is. Playmaker explains that he thought Bohman would be using a different Deck since he chose to go first. Ai asks why, and then he realizes; you can't attack if you go first, so it's better to go second and see what they do so that Bohman could match their Attribute. Playmaker notes that Bohman knows this already, and Ai comments that this means that Bohman has a plan. Playmaker wonders what Bohman is planning, and Bohman challenges him to figure out his strategy before Summoning another "Hydradrive Booster". He chants "Appear again! The circuit that connects the truth!" and sets "Hydradrive Booster" in the Link Arrow to Link Summon the Link-1 "Coolant Hydradrive". Bohman declares that this field will become a place to judge and expose Playmaker's crimes as he holds up a card, and Playmkaer asks "My crimes?" in confusion.

"Twin Hydradrive Knight" takes on the Attributes of its Link Materials.

Bohman then activates the Link Spell Card "Judgment Arrows" from his hand, and Playmaker declares that it's his Link Spell. Bohman explains that when a Link Monster that "Judgment Arrows" points to battles, its ATK will be doubled. Playmaker notes that Bohman played that card after all, and Ai comments that his monsters' ATK are essentially 2000. Bohman declares that the main event is coming, and he chants "Appear! The circuit that connects the truth!" again. This time the Summoning conditions are two "Hydradrive" Link Monsters, so he sets "Burn" and "Coolant Hydradrive" in the Link Arrows, Link Summoning the Link-2 "Twin Hydradrive Knight". Playmaker notes in surprise that it's a Link-2 monster, and Ai cries that he's never seen this one before. Bohman explains that when "Twin Hydradrive Knight" is Link Summoned, its Attribute can become the same as its Link Materials. He chants "Let the two powers reside in your sword!" as a blue energy snake twists down the sword in "Twin Hydradrive Knight's" right hand and a red one down the left-hand sword, causing the blades to glow those respective colors as "Twin Hydradrive Knight" becomes FIRE and WATER Attribute. Playmaker muses on the nature of a monster with two Attributes, and Bohman Sets two cards, declaring that he will let Playmaker know this; these two Set cards will decide the outcome of this Duel, but Playmaker can't defeat him, because Bohman knows his thoughts like they're his own. Bohman ends his turn and he tells Playmaker to bring it.

Playmaker discards "Clock Wyvern".

Ai notes that Bohman's Dueling was sloppy last time, but he's prepared this time. He notes to Playmaker that those Set cards will definitely be trouble, and Playmaker agrees. He states that one is definitely "Property Spray", which Bohman can use to change the Attributes of their monsters. Ai asks if Bohman already Set it, and Playmaker states that even if it isn't, Bohman is making them wary of it. Ai asks if Bohman really planned all that, and he states that that's totally different from before. Playmaker thinks that it's not just that; something's clearly different than before, something hidden inside Bohman. He thinks that he'll uncover it in this Duel, and he declares his turn and draws. He Summons "Flame Bufferlo", then activates the effect of "Catche Eve L2" from his hand, lowering the Level of a Level 3 or higher monster by two to Special Summon her. He lowers the Level of "Flame Bufferlo" to 1, Special Summoning "Catche Eve L2", then chants "Appear! The circuit that leads to the future!" Declaring that the Summoning condition is one Level 1 monster, he sets "Flame Bufferlo" to Link Summon the Link-1 "Linkuriboh". Ai tells "Linkuriboh" to get fired up, and "Linkuriboh" turns around and dances happily. Playmaker then activates the effect of "Flame Buferlo" since it left the field, discarding a Cyberse monster to draw two cards. He discards "Clock Wyvern" and draws, looking at his cards, then he Special Summons "Cyberse White Hat" from his hand, explaining that he can Special Summon it when he controls at least two monsters with the same Type. He chants "Appear! The circuit that leads to the future!" and declares that the Summoning conditions are two Level 2 or higher Cyberse monsters, setting "Cyberse White Hat" and "Catche Eve L2" in the Link Arrows to Link Summon the Link-2 "Update Jammer". Bohman looks at the card on his Duel Disk, musing that it's a WIND monster and chuckling that Playmaker was able to avoid WATER and FIRE. Playmaker then activates the effect of "Cyberse White Hat" since it was used as Link Material, reducing the ATK of all monsters Bohman controls by 1000 until the end of the turn. "Twin Hydradrive Knight" falls to 800 ATK, and Playmaker declares battle, attacking "Twin Hydradrive Knight" with "Update Jammer".

"Update Jammer" activates its effect to damage Bohman.

Bohman activates the effect of "Judgment Arrows", doubling the ATK of the Link Monster it points to. "Twin Hydradrive Knight" rises to 1600 ATK, and Ai yells that it's pointless and tells Playmaker to go get him. Not yet, Playmaker tells him, and Ai face-faults and asks if he's for real. Playmaker activates the effect of "Update Jammer" since a Cyberse monster is battling, negating the effects of all other cards on the field and using the original ATK and DEF of the battling monsters. He states that the effect of the Link Spell will be negated as "Update Jammer" taps a code into his pad, restoring the ATK of "Twin Hydradrive Knight" to 1800. Ai scratches his head in confusion, protesting that the ATK of their opponent's monster increased. Bohman simply watches as Playmaker continues his attack, and "Update Jammer" deploys a satellite dish from its backpack and beams out a signal that destroys "Twin Hydradrive Knight" and reduces Bohman to 3800 LP, his pauldron fizzling. Playmaker adds that Bohman will also take 1000 damage since "Update Jammer" destroyed a monster by battle, and "Update Jammer" blasts a wavelength across the field that causes Bohman to fizzle and his LP to fall to 2800. Ai notes that he sees; this way, the damage they inflicted was higher. Playmaker then attacks with "Linkuriboh", who tackles Bohman in the stomach and reduces him to 2500 LP. Playmaker Sets two cards of his own and ends his turn.

Anticipating Playmaker's counter, Bohman activates "Hydradrive Cycle".

Bohman straightens up and grins, commenting that Playmaker used "Update Jammer" to stop the effect of "Judgment Arrows", but he claims that he can't stop Bohman's next attack. He declares his turn and draws, the declares that this card will attack Playmaker directly. He activates the Continuous Trap Card, "Property Spray", explaining that it will allow him to Tribute a monster to gain LP equal to its ATK, and then the Attributes of all monsters Playmaker controls will become the same as the Tributed monster's until the end of the turn. Ai cries that he knew it; a card that can change Attributes. Playmaker states that he expected that, and he activates the Counter Trap Card "Arrow Break" since he controls a Link Monster, negating the activation of a Trap Card and destroying it. He negates and destroys "Property Spray", and Harlan gasps in shock that Playmaker knew Bohman would play it. But Bohman smiles and he claims that he expected that. Ai asks if shock if Bohman anticipated their Counter Trap. Bohman points out that they're also concerned about his other Set card, but when he activated "Property Spray" they had no choice but to activate their Counter Trap. He warns them that he told them this card would decide the Duel's outcome, and he activates the Continuous Trap Card "Hydradrive Cycle". He explains that it can be activated when his Spell or Trap Card is destroyed. Playmaker narrows his eyes, and Harlan gasps to himself in amazement that Bohman anticipated Playmaker anticipating his card.

Bohman Summons an EARTH "Hydradrive Token".

Bohman tells Playmaker to regret his own foolishness. He declares that he'll show them the power of "Hydradrive Cycle", and Ai nervously asks what Bohman is going to do. Bohman returns a "Hydradrive" Link Monster from his Graveyard to his Extra Deck to draw cards equal to its Link Rating. He returns "Twin Hydradrive Knight" and draws two cards, then he Special Summons a "Hydradrive" from his Graveyard with its ATK reduced to zero. He orders "Burn Hydradrive" to resurrect, and then he activates the additional effect of "Hydradrive Cycle", paying 400 LP to Special Summon a "Hydradrive Token" to the turn player's field that is either FIRE, WIND, WATER, or EARTH. He Special Summons an EARTH "Hydradrive Token", and his LP falls to 2100 as the "Hydradrive Token" glows orange. Playmaker is shocked that Bohman was able to draw more cards and Special Summon, and Ai adds that he even chose the Attribute of his Token, protesting that's not fair. Playmaker reflects that "Property Spray" and "Hydradrive Cycle" were both Set on the first turn, and Ai asks if Bohman expected this all from the start. Playmaker grimaces, muttering that he was in the palm of Bohman's hand. Bohman claims that Playmaker is incapable of anticipating his plans. He tells Playmaker that he's coming, and that he can't escape him anymore. Bohman chants "Appear! The circuit that connects the truth!" He sets the "Hydradrive Token" in the Link Arrow, Link Summoning the Link-1 "Flow Hydradrive" Then he chants "Appear again! The circuit that connects the truth!" and sets "Burn Hydradrive" and "Flow Hydradrive" in the Link Arrows, Link Summoning the Link-2 "Twin Hydradrive Knight" again. Bohman tells "Twin Hydradrive Knight" to let FIRE and WIND reside in its swords, and as before, a green energy snake twists down the sword in "Twin Hydradrive Knight's" right hand and a red one down the left-hand sword, causing the blades to glow those respective colors as it takes on their Attributes.

The attack of "Twin Hydradrive Knight" approaches Playmaker.

Bohman then explains that the effect of "Twin Hydradrive Knight" will negate the effects of monsters Playmaker controls with the same Attributes as it. "Twin Hydradrive Knight" slashes at "Update Jammer" with the green sword, sending a blast of energy that twists into a twister around it as Bohman explains that since "Update Jammer" is WIND, its effect is negated. Playmaker scowls, and Bohman tells him that he likes that look on his face, but it's not a true face of despair yet and he'll pressure him even more. He declares battle, and attacks "Update Jammer" with "Twin Hydradrive Knight". Ai yelps that this is bad; Bohman will double the ATK of "Twin Hydradrive Knight" with "Judgment Arrows". Playmaker activates the effect of "Linkuriboh", Tributing it to reduce the ATK of Bohman's monster to zero. "Linkuriboh" explodes into particles, but Bohman replies that it's pointless and he discards "Break Hydradrive" to activate its effect, negating the effect of "Linkuriboh" and inflicting 800 damage to Playmaker. Playmaker gasps "What?!" and is shocked by the effect, reducing his LP to 3200. Harlan praises Bohman stopping Playmaker's strategy again, and Ai sobs that he'll never forget "Linkuriboh". Bohman then declares the effect of the Link Spell "Judgment Arrows"; when then Link Monster it points to battles, its ATK as doubled. "Twin Hydradrive Knight's" swords glow with their Attributes as it powers up to 3600 ATK, and Ai bugs out, repeating the ATK value in shock. He cries that this is bad and asks if Playmaker can't do anything. But Playmaker can only brace himself in shock, and Bohman tells him to be gone; "Twin Hydradrive Knight" attacks "Update Jammer", swinging its swords and sending a cross of flames at "Update Jammer", disintegrating it instantly. Then the flames slam into Playmaker, blasting him into the brace of the statue and reducing his LP to 1600. Ai asks desperately if Playmaker is okay, and as Playmaker groans in pain, Ai asks what's with Bohman and how he can be stronger so quickly. Bohman Sets a card, ending his turn, and the ATK of "Twin Hydradrive Knight" returns to normal.

The real Yusaku screams in horror as he is replaced.

Bohman tells Playmaker that he looks pathetic, which fits him. He urges Playmaker to continue the Duel and fight to the end, calling him a know-nothing fake. "Fake?" Playmaker asks and Ai wonders what Bohman is talking about. Bohman claims that he knows Playmaker's thoughts as if they're his own, and that there's no way Playmaker can defeat him, because he's Playmaker, and Playmaker is him. Playmaker gets to his feet and asks Bohman what he means; who is he? Bohman closes his eyes, claiming that he's a victim of the Lost Incident ten years ago, much to Playmaker's shock. Ai asks if Bohman was in a separate room during the Incident like Specter was, but Bohman states that he's talking about the DARK Ignis; a truth even they don't know. Ai is confused, and Bohman states that Playmaker said he was a victim of the Lost Incident, but is that actually true? Playmaker asks what he means, and Bohman reminds Playmaker that Bohman told him that he was Playmaker, and Playmaker was him. Ten years ago, Playmaker said that he was kidnapped and locked up, and that by observing him, that Ignis was created. His data, feelings, thoughts, experience, everything during that time was backed up. That backup was another Playmaker created digitally. Ai hesitantly asks what Bohman means, and Bohman explains that due to an accident, that backup... Yusaku is shown losing one of his Duels in the past, and being blasted back by the electrocution. In a blue sphere, the static image of him was replaced by the fallen image of his body, and that image looked up, while his body got up and looked at its own hands. The image of Yusaku protested that it wasn't true.

Bohman finishes that the backup changed places with the real one. Playmaker can only ask "What?!" and Ai asks if Bohman is serious. Bohman declares that in other words, he is the real one, and Playmaker is the fake backup. Playmaker protests that can't be true, and Bohman chuckles, claiming that this is why he knows Playmaker's thoughts and how he Duels. He - sealed away in the digital world - was waiting for this chance, the day he'd defeat the fake and regain his body. Harlan watches in satisfaction, and Playmaker grits his teeth in resolution, as Bohman declares that he'll defeat Playmaker in this Duel and become him.

Featured Duel: Playmaker vs. Bohman

Playmaker VS Bohman.png

The Duel is conducted as a Master Duel.

Turn 1: Bohman
As there are no monsters in the Main Monster Zones, Bohman Special Summons "Hydradrive Booster" (0/0) from his hand by its own effect. Bohman uses "Hydradrive Booster" to Link Summon "Burn Hydradrive" (1000/↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. Bohman Normal Summons "Hydradrive Booster" (0/0). Bohman uses "Hydradrive Booster" to Link Summon "Coolant Hydradrive" (1000/↓) to the zone the bottom Link Arrow of "Burn Hydradrive" points to. Bohman activates the Link Spell Card "Judgment Arrows" (↖↑↗) at the Spell & Trap Zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Coolant Hydradrive" points to. Bohman uses "Burn Hydradrive" and "Coolant Hydradrive" to Link Summon "Twin Hydradrive Knight" (1800/←→) to the zone a Link Arrow of "Judgment Arrows" points to. As "Twin Hydradrive Knight" was Link Summoned, Bohman activates its effect to change its Attribute to that of the original Attributes of the Link Monsters used for its Link Summon, in this case both FIRE and WATER. Bohman Sets two cards.

Turn 2: Playmaker
Playmaker Normal Summons "Flame Bufferlo" (1400/200). Playmaker activates the effect of "Catche Eve L2‎‎" in his hand, reducing the Level of a Level 3 or higher monster he controls by 2, then Special Summoning "Catche Eve L2‎‎" (800/600). He reduces the Level of "Flame Bufferlo" ("Flame Bufferlo": Level 3 → 1). Playmaker uses "Flame Bufferlo" to Link Summon "Linkuriboh" (300/↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. As "Flame Bufferlo" left the field, Playmaker activates its effect, discarding a Cyberse monster to draw two cards. He discards "Clock Wyvern". As Playmaker controls two or more monsters with the same Type, he Special Summons "Cyberse White Hat" (1800/2400). Playmaker uses "Cyberse White Hat" and "Catche Eve L2‎‎" to Link Summon "Update Jammer" (2000/←↑) to the zone the bottom Link Arrow of "Linkuriboh" points to. As "Cyberse White Hat" was sent to the GY as material for a Link Summon, Playmaker activates its effect, reducing the ATK of all monsters Bohman controls by 1000 ("Twin Hydradrive Knight": 1800 → 800 ATK).

"Update Jammer" attacks "Twin Hydradrive Knight". As a Link Monster it points to battled, the effect of "Judgment Arrows" doubles its ATK during damage calculation ("Twin Hydradrive Knight": 800 → 1600 ATK). As a Cyberse monster battled, Playmaker activates the effect of "Update Jammer", negating the effects of all other cards on the field, and returning the ATK and DEF of the battling monsters to their original ATK and DEF, then if Bohman's monster is destroyed by that battle, "Update Jammer" inflicts 1000 damage to Bohman ("Twin Hydradrive Knight": 1600 → 1800 ATK). The attack continues and "Twin Hydradrive Knight" is destroyed (Bohman: 4000 → 3800 LP). As "Update Jammer" destroyed Bohman's monster by battle, its effect activates, inflicting 1000 damage to Bohman (Bohman: 3800 → 2800 LP). "Linkuriboh" attacks Bohman directly (Bohman: 2800 → 2500 LP). Playmaker Sets two cards.

Turn 3: Bohman
Bohman activates his face-down Continuous Trap Card "Property Spray", but as Bohman activated a Trap Card while Playmaker controls a Link Monster, Playmaker activates his face-down Counter Trap Card "Arrow Break", negating the activation and destroy it. As Bohman's Spell/Trap Card was destroyed, Bohman activates his face-down Continuous Trap Card "Hydradrive Cycle", returning a "Hydradrive" Link Monster from his GY to his Extra Deck, then drawing cards equal to the Link Rating of that monster and Special Summoning a "Hydradrive" monster with its ATK reduced to 0. He returns "Twin Hydradrive Knight", draws two cards and Special Summons "Burn Hydradrive" (1000/↓). Bohman activates the other effect of "Hydradrive Cycle", paying 400 LP (Bohman: 2500 → 2100 LP) and declaring an Attribute between EARTH, WATER, FIRE, or WIND to Special Summon a "Hydradrive Token" to the turn player's field with that Attribute. He Special Summons an EARTH "Hydradrive Token" (0/0). Bohman uses a "Hydradrive Token" to Link Summon "Flow Hydradrive" (1000/↓) to a zone "Judgment Arrows" points to. Bohman uses "Burn Hydradrive" and "Flow Hydradrive" to Link Summon "Twin Hydradrive Knight" (1800/←→) to a zone "Judgment Arrows" points to. As "Twin Hydradrive Knight" was Link Summoned, Bohman activates its effect, changing its Attribute to both FIRE and WIND. The effect of "Twin Hydradrive Knight" negates the effects of all monsters Playmaker controls with the same Attribute as "Twin Hydradrive Knight". The effects of the WIND "Update Jammer" are negated.

"Twin Hydradrive Knight" attacks "Update Jammer". As Bohman's monster declared an attack, Playmaker activates the effect of "Linkuriboh", Tributing it to reduce the ATK of that monster to 0. As Playmaker activated an effect by Tributing a monster while Bohman controls a "Hydradrive" monster, Bohman activates the effect of "Break Hydradrive" in his hand, sending it to the GY to negate the activation and inflict 800 damage to Playmaker (Playmaker: 4000 → 3200 LP). As a Link Monster it points to battled, the effect of "Judgment Arrows" doubles its ATK during damage calculation ("Twin Hydradrive Knight": 1800 → 3600 ATK). The attack continues and "Update Jammer" is destroyed (Playmaker: 3200 → 1600 ATK). Bohman Sets a card.

Duel continues in the next episode.
