"Light Blade that Slices Despair" is the seventy-third episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS anime. It first aired in Japan on October 17, 2018.

During his Duel with Playmaker, Bohman activates Storm Access and obtains a new "Hydradrive". Playmaker is then inflicted with heavy damage. Ai then tells Playmaker that he has prepared something in advance just in case. In order to turn things around, Playmaker bets everything on Ai's "secret weapon"!

Featured Duel; Playmaker vs. Bohman

Duel continues from the previous episode.

Turn 4: Bohman
At this point, Bohman enters the Data Storm. As Bohman's LP is 1000 or less, he activates his Skill "Storm Access", accessing a Cyberse Link Monster at random from a nearby Data Storm and adding it to his Extra Deck. He obtains "Rousing Hydradrive Monarch" and adds it to his Extra Deck.

Bohman activates the Quick-Play Spell "Hydradrive Scabbard", Special Summoning a "Hydradrive Token" (0/0) in Defense Position. Bohman sets the "Hydradrive Token" in the Link Arrow to Link Summon "Grand Hydradrive" (1000/↓) to a zone "Judgment Arrows" points to. Bohman activates the effect of "Property Flash", Tributing a "Hydradrive" Link Monster to place a Property Counter on "Property Flash". He Tributes "Grand Hydradrive" ("Property Flash": 3 → 4 Property Counters). Bohman activates the effect of "Property Flash", sending it to the GY to Special Summon a "Hydradrive" Link Monster from his Extra Deck with the same Link Rating as the number of Property Counters that were on "Property Flash". There were four Property Counters on "Property Flash", so Bohman Special Summons the Link-4 "Rousing Hydradrive Monarch" (3000/↑←↓→) to a zone "Judgment Arrows" points to. As "Hydradrive Monarch" was Special Summoned from the Extra Deck, its effect activates, placing four Hydradrive Counters on it, then in addition to its original EARTH Attribute, "Hydradrive Monarch" will also be WATER, FIRE, and WIND while face-up on the field ("Hydradrive Monarch": 0 → 4 Hydradrive Counters). During the Main Phase, Bohman activates the effect of "Hydradrive Monarch", removing a Hydradrive Counter from it to roll a six-sided die, and if Playmaker controls face-up monsters in his Monster Zone with an Attribute that corresponds to the result (1: EARTH, 2: WATER, 3: FIRE, 4: WIND, 5: LIGHT, 6: DARK), Bohman sends as many of those monsters to the GY as possible, then inflicts damage to Playmaker equal to the number of monsters sent to the GY times 500 ("Hydradrive Monarch": 4 → 3 Hydradrive Counters). He rolls a six, and sends the DARK "Cyberse Witch" and "Cyberse Magician" to the GY ("Playmaker": 1550 → 550 LP).

At the start of Bohman's Battle Phase, Playmaker activates the effect of "Resume Mace" in his GY, banishing a monster and two Equip Spells from his GY including "Resume Mace", then Playmaker can make a face-up monster Bohman controls lose ATK equal to the original ATK of the monster banished by this effect until the end of this turn. Playmaker banishes "Resume Mace", "Suspend Wand", and "Dotscaper", which has 0 ATK. As "Dotscaper" was banished, Playmaker activates its effect, Special Summoning it. As a player would Normal or Special Summon a monster with the same Attribute as "Hydradrive Monarch", its effect forces them to Summon it in Attack Position, so Playmaker Special Summons the EARTH "Dotscaper" (0/2100) in Attack Position. Playmaker activates the effect of "Linkuriboh" in his GY, Tributing a Level 1 monster to Special Summon it. He Tributes "Dotscaper", then Special Summons "Linkuriboh" (300/↓). "Hydradrive Monarch" attacks "Linkuriboh". As Bohman's monster declared an attack, Playmaker activates the effect of "Linkuriboh", Tributing it to change that monster's ATK to 0 until the end of this turn. A replay occurs and Bohman chooses to cancel the attack.

Turn 5: Playmaker
At this point, Playmaker enters the Data Storm. As Playmaker's LP is 1000 or less, he activates his Skill "Neo Storm Access", accessing a Cyberse monster at random from a nearby Data Storm and adding it to his Extra Deck. He obtains "Cyberse Quantum Dragon" and adds it to his Extra Deck.

As Playmaker controls no monsters, he activates the effect of "Cynet Ritual" in his GY, banishing it and a Ritual Monster from the GY to Special Summon two "Cynet Tokens". He banishes "Cynet Ritual" and "Cyberse Magician", then Special Summons two "Cynet Tokens" (0/0). Playmaker sets two "Cynet Tokens" in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Cyberse Wicckid" (800/↓↘) to the Extra Monster Zone. As Playmaker controls a Cyberse monster, he Special Summons "Backup Secretary" from his hand by its own effect. He Special Summons it (1200/800) to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Cyberse Wicckid" points to. As a monster was Special Summoned to a zone "Cyberse Wicckid" points to while it is on the field, Playmaker activates its effect, banishing a Cyberse monster from his GY to add a Cyberse Tuner from his Deck to his hand. He adds and subsequently Normal Summons "Cyberse Synchron" (100/100) to the zone the bottom-right Link Arrow of "Cyberse Wicckid" points to. Playmaker activates the effect of "Cyberse Synchron", targeting a Level 4 or lower monster he controls and increasing its Level by its original Level until the end of this turn. He targets the Level 3 "Backup Secretary". During the Main Phase, Bohman activates the effect of "Hydradrive Monarch", removing a Hydradrive Counter from it to roll a six-sided die, and if Playmaker controls face-up monsters in his Monster Zone with an Attribute that corresponds to the result (1: EARTH, 2: WATER, 3: FIRE, 4: WIND, 5: LIGHT, 6: DARK), Bohman sends as many of those monsters to the GY as possible, then inflicts damage to Playmaker equal to the number of monsters sent to the GY times 500 ("Hydradrive Monarch": 3 → 2 Hydradrive Counters). He rolls a six. The effects of "Cyberse Wicckid" makes it unaffected by Bohman's card effects if it was Link Summoned, and makes Cyberse monsters it points to unaffected by the activated effects of Bohman's monsters. The effect of "Cyberse Synchron" resolves ("Backup Secretary": Level 3 → 6).

Playmaker tunes the Level 1 Tuner Monster "Cyberse Synchron" with the Level 6 "Backup Secretary" to Synchro Summon the Level 7 "Cyberse Quantum Dragon" (2500/2000) to a zone "Cyberse Wicckid" points to. "Cyberse Quantum Dragon" attacks "Hydradrive Monarch". At the start of the Damage Step, as "Cyberse Quantum Dragon" is battling Bohman's monster, Playmaker activates its effect, returning that monster to the hand, also "Cyberse Quantum Dragon" can make a second attack in a row. "Hydradrive Monarch" returns to Bohman's Extra Deck. "Cyberse Quantum Dragon" attacks Bohman directly. As Playmaker's monster declared a direct attack while EARTH, WATER, FIRE, and WIND "Hydradrive" Link Monsters are in Bohman's GY, Bohman activates the effect of "Hydradrive Scabbard" in his GY, banishing it to halve any battle damage from that battle, also both players take any battle damage from that battle. The attack continues (Playmaker: 550 → 0 LP, Bohman: 700 → 0 LP).
