Varis suggests to Playmaker and his allies that they should team up. However, Soulburner reacts with anger and challenges Varis to a Duel! Fueled by his burning hatred, Soulburner launches a brutal attack with his "Salamangreat" monsters. However, Varis then does something unexpected.

The Duel is conducted as a Master Duel.

Turn 1: Soulburner
Varis' hand contains "Magnarokket Dragon", "Gateway Dragon", "Anesthrokket Dragon", "Autorokket Dragon", and "Sniffer Dragon". Soulburner Normal Summons "Salamangreat Wolvie" (1700/1000). Soulburner activates the Spell "Fury of Fire", targeting up to two "Salamangreat" monsters in his hand or GY and Special Summoning them in Defense Position, but their effects are negated. He targets "Salamangreat Parro" (2000/1000) and "Salamangreat Falco" (1200/1600) in his hand and Special Summons them. Soulburner sets "Wolvie", "Parro", and "Falco" in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Salamangreat Heatleo" (2300/↙↑↘) to the Extra Monster Zone. Soulburner Sets a card.

Turn 2: Varis
Varis draws "Boot Sector Launch" and passes.

Turn 3: Soulburner
Soulburner draws and subsequently Normal Summons "Salamangreat Jack Jaguar" (1800/1200). "Heatleo" attacks Varis directly (Varis: 4000 → 1700 LP).

At this point, Soulburner ends the Duel prematurely, leaving the Duel with no result.

Differences in adaptations[edit]

  • In the original version, Soulburner wagered Flame on his Duel with Varis and Flame criticizes him for doing so. In the dub, Soulburner made no such wager, so Flame instead suggests that they should at least hear Varis out regardless of their personal feelings.
  • In the original version, Varis offers Ghost Gal and Kolter the chance to complete the reprogramming of the Tower of Hanoi. In the dub, he claims to be unable to do so himself because of unfamiliarity with the Ignis algorithms he needs to track.
  • In the original version, Zaizen does not realize what is happening when Mirror LINK VRAINS is revealed, but in the dub he realizes that there are two LINK VRAINS.
  • Ai identified the mirror world in the original version, but Varis is the one to do so in the dub.
