"Promise With Each Other" is the ninety-third episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS anime. It first aired in Japan on March 13, 2019.

Knowing the ins and outs of Playmaker's Deck, Kolter launches a relentless assault against him and does all he can in order to protect Jin. On the other hand, Playmaker just can't attack, and gets driven into a corner. Kolter then starts talking about the promise the two of them made in the past.

Featured Duel: Playmaker vs Kal Kolter

Duel continues from the previous episode.

Playmaker has 1800 LP and controls "Decode Talker" (1300/↙↑↘) in his right hand Extra Monster Zone and "Codebreaker Zero Day" (1800/0) in his Main Monster Zone the bottom-left Link Arrow of "Decode Talker" points to. Kal Kolter has 4000 LP and controls "Codebreaker Virus Swordsman" (2300/↑↓) in his Main Monster Zone the top-center Link Arrow of "Decode Talker" points to, as well as "Codebreak Backfire" in his Spell & Trap Zone.

Turn 4: Playmaker
Playmaker activates "Link Satellite", targeting a Link Monster he controls and placing Satellite Counters on itself equal to the targeted monster's Link Rating. He targets "Decode Talker" (Satellite Counters: 0 → 3). While "Link Satellite" is face-up on the field, neither player can declare an attack. Playmaker Sets a card. During the End Phase, he removes a Satellite Counter from "Link Satellite" because of its own effect (Satellite Counters: 3 → 2). If the last Satellite Counter is removed from "Link Satellite", it is destroyed.

Turn 5: Kolter
Kolter Normal Summons "Codebreaker Zero Day" (1800/0). Kolter sets two monsters, including a "Codebreaker" Link Monster, in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Codebreaker Virus Berserker" (2800/↑↓→) to the top-center Link Arrow of "Decode Talker". Kolter then activates the effect of "Virus Berserker": as it was Special Summoned and is now co-linked, he can target 1 Link Monster on the field and Special Summon up to two "Codebreaker" monsters from his hand or GY to any zone the targeted monster points to. Kolter targets "Decode Talker" and Special Summons a copy of "Zero Day" (1800/0) from his GY to a Zone that "Decode Talker" points to in Defense Position. The effect of "Zero Day" reverses any ATK or DEF increases/decreases to non-"Codebreaker" monsters it is linked to ("Decode Talker": 1300 → 800 ATK). As a "Codebreaker" monster was summoned to his field, the effect of "Codebreak Backfire" inflicts 600 damage to Playmaker (Playmaker: 1800 → 1200 LP). Kolter activates the other effect of "Virus Berserker", letting him destroy face-up Spell/Trap Cards Playmaker controls up to the number of "Codebreaker" monsters Playmaker controls and inflicts 600 damage for each destroyed card. He destroys "Link Satellite" (Playmaker: 1200 → 600 LP).

"Virus Berserker" attacks "Decode Talker", but Playmaker activates his face-down "Link Cancel", letting him target a Link Monster on the field that was Link Summoned using only Link Monsters as material, return it to the Extra Deck and then he can Special Summon the monsters used as its Link Material from the GY. Playmaker returns "Decode Talker" to the Extra Deck and Special Summons "Link Spider" (1000/↓) and "Protocol Gardna" (1000/←→) from his GY. A replay occurs and "Virus Berserker" attacks "Protocol Gardna" (as the first effect of "Protocol Gardna" prevents Kolter's monsters from targeting monsters it points to for an attack), but due to the second effect of "Protocol Gardna", the first time it would be destroyed by battle, it is not destroyed, and Playmaker takes no battle damage from that battle. As he controls a "Codebreaker" Link Monster, Kolter activates "Codebreak Bind". While it is face-up, monsters that are not linked to a "Codebreaker" monster cannot declare an attack, and if Playmaker Special Summons a monster that is then linked to a "Codebreaker" monster, and that monster destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the GY, Kolter can send "Codebreak Bind" to the GY to inflict damage to Playmaker equal to the destroyed monster's original ATK.

Turn 6: Playmaker
Playmaker draws "Decode Destruction". Playmaker sets his two Effect Monsters in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Extended Decode Talker" (2300/↙↑↘). The effect of "Extended Decode Talker" increases its ATK by 500 for every monster it points to, but the effect of "Zero Day" reverses those ATK changes ("Extended Decode Talker": 2300 → 800). Playmaker activates "Decode Destruction", targeting a "Decode Talker" he controls and applying up to three effects depending on how many monsters it points to. "Extended Decode Talker" is treated as "Decode Talker" while on the field and it points to thee monsters, so all three effects of "Decode Destruction" are applied. The first effect of "Decode Destruction" increases the ATK of "Extended Decode Talker" by 500 for every monster it points to ("Extended Decode Talker": 800 → 2300).

"Extended Decode Talker" attacks "Virus Berserker". As his Cyberse monster is battling an opponent's monster, Playmaker activates the Quick-Play Spell Card, "Cyberse Pride", targeting that monster and making it unable to be destroyed by battle this turn. Also, since it is battling a monster with higher ATK, the other effect of "Cyberse Pride" allows him to pay LP equal to the difference in ATK between the two monsters to increase the ATK of his battling monster by the same amount (Playmaker: 600 → 100), "Extended Decode Talker": 2300 → 2800). The attack continues and only "Virus Berserker" is destroyed, but due to the second effect of "Decode Destruction", "Virus Berserker" is banished, as it was destroyed in battle by the targeted monster, which prevents the effect of "Codebreak Bind" from activating, as the destroyed monster was not sent to the GY. As a "Codebreaker" Link Monster was destroyed by battle or card effect, both copies of "Zero Day" are destroyed by their own effects ("Extended Decode Talker": 2800 → 4300 ATK). Playmaker activates the third effect of "Decode Destruction", destroying all cards Kolter controls after damage calculation, since the targeted monster destroyed a monster by battle. As a monster that "Extended Decode Talker" pointed to was destroyed by battle or sent to the GY during Playmaker's Battle Phase, its effect activates, allowing it to make a second attack during the Battle Phase this turn. "Extended Decode Talker" attacks directly (Kolter: 4000 → 0 LP).
