Ai Normal Summons "Pikari @Ignister" (1200/600) and activates its effect: if it is Normal or Special Summoned, Ai can add 1 "Ignister AiLand" from his Deck to his hand. Ai sets "Pikari" (1 Level 4 or lower Cyberse monster) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Linguriboh" (300/↙) to the Extra Monster Zone. Ai activates the Field Spell "Ignister AiLand" and activates its first effect: during his Main Phase, if he controls no monsters in his Main Monster Zones, Ai can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "@Ignister" monster from his hand, but he cannot Special Summon monsters for the rest of this turn, except Cyberse monsters (even if "AiLand" leaves the field). He Special Summons "Achichi @Ignister" (800/800) in Defense Position. Ai activates the effect of "Hiyari @Ignister" in his hand: if he controls a Link Monster in the Extra Monster Zone, Ai can Special Summon "Hiyari" from his hand to a zone a Link Monster he controls points to. He Special Summons "Hiyari" (300/400) to the zone the bottom-left Link Arrow of "Linguriboh" points to, in Defense Position, via its own effect. Ai sets "Linguriboh", "Achichi", and "Hiyari" (3 Cyberse monsters, including a DARK monster) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Dark Templar @Ignister" (2300/↙↓↘) to the Extra Monster Zone. Ai activates the first effect of "AiLand" again, Special Summoning "Doyon @Ignister" (400/1600) from his hand to the zone the bottom-left Link Arrow of "Dark Templar" points to, in Defense Position. Ai activates the effect of "Dark Templar", and chains the effect of "Doyon". The chain resolves backwards: since "Doyon" was Normal or Special Summoned, Ai can target 1 "@Ignister" monster in his GY, and add it to his hand. He targets and adds "Hiyari" from his GY to his hand. The effect of "Dark Templar" resolves: since a monster was Special Summoned to his zone a Link Monster he controls points to, Ai can target 1 Link Monster he controls, and Special Summon as many Level 4 or lower "@Ignister" monsters with different names from his GY as possible to his zones the targeted monster points to, but the effects of the summoned monsters are negated. He targets "Dark Templar" and Special Summons "Pikari" and "Achichi" to the zones the bottom-centre and bottom-right Link Arrows of "Dark Templar" point to respectively, both in Defense Position and with their effects negated. Ai sets "Doyon", "Pikari", and "Achichi" (2+ Cyberse monsters, including a [FIRE]] monster) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Fire Phoenix @Ignister" (2300/←↓→) to the zone the bottom-left Link Arrow of "Dark Templar" points to. Ai activates the Link Spell "Judgment Arrows" (↖↑↗) in the Spell & Trap Zone the bottom-centre Link Arrow of "Fire Phoenix" points to.

Ai activates the Link Spell "Judgment Arrows" (↖↑↗) in the Spell & Trap Zone the bottom-centre Link Arrow of "Fire Phoenix" points to.

"Fire Phoenix" attacks "Marbled Rock", and Ai activates the effect of "Judgement Arrows": as a Link Monster it points to is battling, "Judgement Arrows" doubles the current ATK of that monster during damage calculation only ("Fire Phoenix": 2300 → 4600 ATK). Since an opponent's monster has declared an attack, Blue Maiden activates the effect of "Marbled Rock", allowing her to send 1 "Marincess" monster from her hand to her GY, in order to prevent that "Marincess" monster that is battling from being destroyed by that battle, also she takes no battle damage from that battle. She sends an unknown "Marincess" card from her hand to her GY. Blue Maiden activates her set Normal Trap "Marincess Wave": since she controls a "Marincess" Link Monster, she targets 1 face-up monster her opponent controls, and negates that face-up monster's effects until the end of this turn, then, if she controls a Link-2 or higher "Marincess" monster, all face-up monsters she currently controls are unaffected by her opponent's card effects until the end of this turn. She targets "Fire Phoenix". The attack continues, but "Marbled Rock" isn;t destroyed and Blue Maiden takes no battle damage from that battle. Ai activates the Quick-Play Spell "TAimed Technique" during this Battle Phase, targeting 1 "@Ignister" monster he controls in the Extra Monster Zone and 1 Link Monster in his Main Monster Zone, then banishes both that Main Monster Zone monster and cards from his opponent's hand, up to that monster's Link Rating, until the end of the Battle Phase, and if he does, he then moves that Extra Monster Zone monster to his Main Monster Zone. He targets "Dark Templar" in his Extra Monster Zone and "Fire Phoenix" in his Main Monster Zone, banishes "Fire Phoenix" and 2 cards from Blue Maiden's hand (as "Fire Phoenix" is Link 3), then he moves "Dark Templar" to the Main Monster Zone the top-right Link Arrow of "Judgement Arrows" points to.

"Ai's Sad Frustration" is the one hundred and tenth episode of the Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS anime. It first aired in Japan on July 17, 2019.

Ai has discovered Akira and Blue Maiden in the network, and in order to seize control of SOL Technologies' system, he challenges the two of them to a Duel. The Zaizen siblings protect each other and fend off Ai's attacks, and with their minds as one they launch a counterattack.

Featured Duel: Blue Maiden & Akira vs. Ai

The Duel is conducted as a Master Duel.
The Duel is also conducted as a Tag-Team Duel, with Blue Maiden and Akira teaming up against Ai and sharing the same field, GY and LP.

Turn 1: Blue Maiden
Blue Maiden Normal Summons "Marincess Blue Tang" and activates its effect: if it is Normal or Special Summoned, Blue Maiden can send 1 "Marincess" monster from her Deck to her GY, except another copy of "Blue Tang". She sends "Marincess Sea Horse" from her Deck to her GY. Blue Maiden sets "Blue Tang" (1 Level 4 or lower "Marincess" monster) in the Link Arrow to Link Summon "Marincess Blue Slug" (1500/↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. Blue Maiden activates the effect of "Blue Slug": if it is Link Summoned, she can target 1 "Marincess" monster in her GY, and add it to her hand. She targets and adds "Sea Horse" from her GY to her hand. In addition, since "Blue Tang" was sent to the GY as material for the Link Summon of a WATER monster, Blue Maiden activates its effect, allowing her to excavate the top 3 cards of her Deck and add 1 excavated "Marincess" card to her hand, and then shuffle the rest into her Deck. She add an unknown "Marincess" monster to her hand, and shuffles the remaining 2 unknown cards back into her Deck. Blue Maiden Special Summons "Sea Horse" from her hand to the Main Monster Zone "Blue Slug" points to, via its own effect. Blue Maiden sets "Blue Slug" and "Sea Horse" (2 WATER monsters) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Marincess Coral Anemone" (2000/←↓) to the Extra Monster Zone. Blue Maiden activates the effect of "Coral Anemone", allowing her to target 1 WATER monster in her GY and Special Summon it to her zone "Coral Anemone" points to. She targets and Special Summons "Blue Slug" from her GY to her zone the bottom-centre Link Arrow of "Coral Anemone" points to. Blue Maiden sets "Blue Slug" and the Link 2 "Coral Anemone" (2+ WATER monsters) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Marincess Marbled Rock" (2500/←↓→) to the Extra Monster Zone. Blue Maiden activates the effect of "Marbled Rock", allowing her to target 1 "Marincess" card in her GY, and add it to her hand. She targets and adds "Blue Tang". Blue Maiden Sets 2 cards.

Turn 2: Ai

As Blue Maiden controls a Link-3 or higher "Marincess" monster, she can activate her Normal Trap "Marincess Wave" from her hand: since she controls a "Marincess" Link Monster, she targets 1 face-up monster her opponent controls, and negates that face-up monster's effects until the end of this turn, then, if she controls a Link-2 or higher "Marincess" monster, all face-up monsters she currently controls are unaffected by her opponent's card effects until the end of this turn.

"Dark Templar" attacks "Marbled Rock", and Ai activates the effect of "Judgement Arrows": as a Link Monster it points to is battling, "Judgement Arrows" doubles the current ATK of that monster during damage calculation only ("Dark Templar": 2300 → 4600 ATK). "Marbled Rock" is destroyed (Blue Maiden: 4000 → 1900 LP) ("Dark Templar": 4600 → 2300 ATK).

At the end of the Battle Phase, Ai's banished "Fire Phoenix" returns to the field and Blue Maiden's 2 cards that were banished by the effect of "TAimed Technique" return to her hand.

Turn 3: Akira
Akira sets a monster. Akira activates the Continuous Spell "Stairs of Mail" and activates its effect: during his Main Phase, he can send 1 "Tindangle" card from his hand to his GY, in order to apply 1 of 2 effects, but he cannot send other cards with the same name to his GY by the effect of "Stairs of Mail" for the rest of this turn. He can either: change 1 face-downDefense Position monster he controls to Attack Position, or he can change 1 Attack Position monster he controls to face-down Defense Position. He sends "Tindangle Intruder" from his hand to the GY, and chooses to apply the first effect, changing his Set "Tindangle Angel" (500/1800) to Attack Position. Akira activates the Flip effect of "Angel", allowing him to Special Summon 1 Flip monster from his hand or GY in face-down Defense Position, except another copy of "Tindangle Angel". He Special Summons a Flip monster from his hand in Defense Position. Akira activates the effect of "Intruder" in his GY: if a monster(s) is Special Summoned to his field in face-down Defense Position while this card is in his GY: Akira must Special Summon that copy of "Intruder" from his GY in face-down Defense Position. Since he controls a face-down Defense Position monster, Akira Special Summons "Tindangle Base Gardna" (0/2300) from his hand, in Defense Position, via its own effect. Akira activates the effect of "Stairs of Mail" again, sending an unknown "Tindangle" monster from his hand to his GY, in order to change his face-down Defense Position "Intruder" (2200/0) to Attack Position. Akira activates the Flip effect of Intruder, allowing him to add 1 "Tindangle" card from his Deck to his hand. He adds an unknown "Tindangle" card from his Deck to his hand. Akira activates the effect of "Stairs of Mail", sending an unknown "Tindangle" card from his hand to his GY, in order to change his face-down Defense Position "Tindangle Hound" (2500/0) to Attack Position. Akira activates the Flip effect of "Hound", allowing him to target 1 other face-up monster on the field, and increase the ATK of "Hound" by that target's original ATK, then change that target to face-down Defense Position. He targets "Intruder" ("Hound": 2500 → 4700 ATK), which is then changed to face-down Defense Position.

"Hound" attacks "Dark Templar", and Ai activates the effect of "Judgement Arrows": as a Link Monster it points to is battling, "Judgement Arrows" doubles the current ATK of that monster during damage calculation only ("Dark Templar": 2300 → 4600 ATK). "Dark Templar" is destroyed (Ai: 4000 → 3900). Akira activates Blue Maiden's Set Normal Trap "Marincess Decision", allowing him to banish 1 "Marincess" card from their GY, in order to target 1 face-down Defense Position monster he controls and change it to face-up Defense Position, (but its Flip effects are not activated), then, immediately after this effect resolves, he must Link Summon 1 Link Monster using monsters he controls as material, including that targeted monster. He banishes "Wave", targets his Set "Intruder", and changes that target to face-up Defense Position, then he sets "Base Gardna", "Intruder", and "Angel" (3 "Tindangle" monsters) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Tindangle Acute Cerberus" (0/↙↑↘) to the Extra Monster Zone.

Duel continues in the next episode.
