Varis appears before Soulburner, who has obtained some data about Ai. In order to finish the battle with the Ignis once and for all, Varis attempts to take the data. With their previous Duel never resolved, the second showdown between Soulburner and Varis begins, with the data about Ai on the line.

SummaryEdit

Varis arrives.

Ai arrives at his satellite and docks Linguriboh, heading into the main module and bringing up screens showing Playmaker and Soulburner examining the letter he gave Roboppi. As Soulburner muses it's a clue to Ai's whereabouts, Varis descends from above and tells Soulburner to give him that letter. Ai comments this was unexpected and in Café Nom Kolter asks why Varis is here, while Soulburner asks Varis why he wants the letter (in the dub Soulburner asks why Varis thinks they would give him the letter). Varis replies that he'll take care of the Dark Ignis and Playmaker asks if he intends to defeat Ai (in the dub Varis claims they want the same thing and Playmaker corrects him). Varis confirms he does and tells Soulburner again to hand the letter over, but Soulburner refuses as he acquired it and wants to give it to Playmaker. Varis warns Soulburner that Playmaker might not destroy the Dark Ignis if he gives him that letter and Soulburner angrily asks if Varis doesn't trust Playmaker. Varis replies that it's about certainty, not trust, and it's not certain Playmaker won't feel pity for Ai and let him go, reminding them how many casualties they've had and emphasizing they need to defeat Ai to end his threat to humanity. If they refuse, he'll take the letter by force (in the dub Soulburner doesn't ask if Varis doesn't trust Playmaker and Varis claims to be doing Playmaker a favor by erasing Ai as he won't stop his war just because they talk with him). Playmaker whispers Varis's name (in the dub he disagrees with Varis) and Soulburner asks if Varis is treating them as his enemy now, recalling their inconclusive Duel and noting they haven't settled things yet, so he suggests they do so here and now. Varis agrees to take Soulburner on if that's what he wants, and he won't take the letter if he loses (in the dub Varis claims it would be an easy victory, but notes he doesn't ignore a challenge). Playmaker calls both of their names and Soulburner asks him to let him do this, Varis adding Soulburner won't be satisfied if he doesn't (in the dub, Playmaker asks if Soulburner is sure about this and Soulburner claims he's never been more sure in his life; this is where Varis sets the stakes for the Duel). Soulburner warns Varis not to let him win again and Varis reminds him they needed to work together then, but not now, so he will show no mercy, prompting Soulburner to chuckle that Varis is talking as though he's already won (In the dub, Soulburner tells Varis he'll have to leave Ai alone forever if he loses and Varis clarifies that he's fine with giving the letter to Soulburner if he loses, since he wouldn't be able to defeat a toaster if he couldn't defeat Soulburner. Soulburner chuckles that Varis will find that he's no toaster.)

Soulburner insists to Playmaker he won't be satisfied unless he defeats Varis.

Varis raises his hand and a landscape materializes around him as he declares he'll prepare a perfect stage for Soulburner's end - a stone building surrounded by forest. Playmaker realizes this is the facility they were trapped in during the Lost Incident and Kolter wonders if Varis is trying to put psychological pressure on Theodore while Ai comments this is getting interesting (in the dub Kolter is much angrier that Varis is reminding Yusaku and Theodore of the worst time of their lives and Ai comments that Varis is certainly a mean one). Varis explains that everything began here, so there's no better place for them to end things and Soulburner grits his teeth as he remembers his torture, his rescue, and his grandparents telling him his parents had died, agreeing this is their destined final battle and that Varis is right; this is perfect. Playmaker says his name cautiously and Soulburner reassures Playmaker that he knows, but emphasizes he won't be satisfied unless he beats Varis because this all started because of him (in the dub Soulburner snaps the Lost Incident took everything from him and Playmaker tells him to calm down; Soulburner claims he is, but will make Varis pay for what he did. Varis reminds him he wasn't responsible, but he isn't here to debate history). Varis agrees and adds that time stopped for him here too, declaring it's time to end everything and perhaps time to move forward. Playmaker thinks Varis's name (in the dub he is silent), and Soulburner and Varis face off as it begins to rain, then both Duelists call "Let's go! Duel!"

Soulburner begins with the same first turn as his last Duel with Varis.

Soulburner takes the first turn and Summons "Salamangreat Wolvie", then activates the Spell Card "Fury of Fire", restricting him to only Special Summoning a monster from the Extra Deck once this turn, but allowing him to Special Summon up to two "Salamangreat" monsters from his hand or Graveyard with their effects negated. He Special Summons "Salamangreat Falco" and "Salamangreat Parro" from his hand and then chants "Appear! The circuit that changes the future!" Declaring the Summoning conditions are at least two FIRE Effect Monsters, he sets all three of his monsters to Link Summon the Link-3 "Salamangreat Heatleo". Varis is pleased that "Heatleo" has appeared (in the dub he notes that Soulburner always Summons that monster) and Soulburner Sets a card and ends his turn, causing Playmaker and Ai to realize that Soulburner's first turn was the same as his last Duel with Varis and Ai calls it stylish. Soulburner vows to defeat Varis using the same strategy he did last time and Varis notes it's interesting and tells Soulburner to watch how that Duel would have ended (in the dub Soulburner claims Varis won't have any excuses when he loses and Varis replies he isn't planning on making any because he isn't planning to lose).

Varis assembles enough ATK to defeat Soulburner.

He declares his turn and draws, then activates the Field Spell "Boot Sector Launch", using its effect to Special Summon two "Rokket" monsters from his hand in Defense Position, and he Special Summons "Silverrokket Dragon" and "Anesthrokket Dragon", adding that they will gain 300 ATK and DEF due to the effect of "Boot Sector Launch". "Silverrokket" and "Anesthrokket" increase to 400 and 2500 DEF respectively and then Varis chants "Appear! The future circuit that lights up may path!" and declares the Summoning conditions are two Dragon monsters, including a "Rokket" monster (in the dub, he just states he is setting his monsters) as he sets "Silverrokket" and "Anesthrokket" to Link Summon the Link-2 "Quadborrel Dragon". He activates the effect of "Quadborrel Dragon", discarding a card from his hand to destroy a monster and Soulburner grits his teeth as Varis discards "Rokket Recharger" and destroys "Heatleo". Varis adds that when this effect destroyed a Link Monster he can Special Summon "Rokket" monsters from his hand or Graveyard equal to the destroyed monster's Link Rating, and as "Heatleo" was Link-3 he Special Summons all three "Rokket" monsters in his Graveyard, their DEF increasing due to "Boot Sector Launch", Then he Special Summons "Noctovision Dragon" from his hand in Defense Position as he Special Summoned a DARK Dragon monster and Playmaker notes Varis has four more monsters out, realizing what's coming. Once again Varis chants "Appear! The future circuit that lights up my path!" and he declares the Summoning conditions are at least three Effect Monsters, setting "Noctovision", "Silverrokket", "Anestherokket" and "Rokket Recharger" to Link Summon the Link-4 "Borreload Dragon". Soulburner notes "Borreload" has shown up and Varis activates the effect of "Noctovision Dragon" to draw a card since it was used to Link Summon. Playmaker muses that Varis's monsters have a total of 4000 ATK and Soulburner has no monsters to defend him (in the dub, Varis notes this) and Ai admits Varis is working as quickly as usual and plans to end Soulburner this turn. Soulburner muses this is what would have happened in their previous Duel and admits he's happy Varis is taking him seriously (in the dub, Soulburner laments the Duel will end so quickly and Varis tells him he's giving him what he wants and what he deserves), and Varis declares his Battle Phase and attacks Soulburner directly with "Quadborrel Dragon", reducing him to 3000 LP. Kolter asks if Soulburner is all right, worrying that he'll lose if "Borreload" attacks him directly. Varis laments this is a disappointing end (in the dub he calls Soulburner not being near his level a hard lesson to learn) and orders "Borreload" to attack Soulburner directly, and Soulburner braces himself as the attack builds in "Borreload's" cannon.

Soulburner survives the attack of "Borreload Dragon".

But as "Borreload" fires, Soulburner vows he won't let the Duel end so easily and activates a Trap Card, "Salamangreat Geyser", returning "Heatleo" from his Graveyard to his Extra Deck to reduce the ATK of "Borreload Dragon" by 1000 times the returned "Heatleo's" Link Rating for the rest of the turn. "Heatleo" is Link-3, so "Borreload" loses 3000 ATK and drops to zero and Soulburner adds that he can also draw a card for each Link Monster Varis controls. As Soulburner draws two cards the cannon-blast dissipates harmlessly in front of him and he celebrates avoiding the damage, Kolter praising his move and Varis admitting it wouldn't be fun if this Duel ended so easily (in the dub he is amused that Soulburner is celebrating his survival and suggests such moments are rare), Setting a card and ending his turn. He adds that the ATK of "Borreload" will return to normal due to the effect of "Salamangreat Geyser" ending as well. Soulburner comments that Varis failed to defeat him in one turn as he planned, so now it's his turn and he isn't going to hold back, and Varis replies that he'll see what kind of attack Soulburner was planning on defeating him with in their previous Duel. (In the dub Soulburner comments that Varis knows never to underestimate an opponent and admits he isn't sure if it was disrespect or silly. Varis assures him it wasn't silly.)

As Soulburner declares his turn and draws, he reflects that Varis saved them by reporting the Lost Incident and he knows Varis is conflicted about his father, but Soulburner has lost too much to that incident (in the dub he confirms he does know Varis saved him, but that doesn't make up for everything else he's done and thinks he feels as if Varis was brought into the world solely to ruin his life). He Summons "Salamangreat Spinny" and chants "Appear! The circuit that changes the future!" as he sets "Spinny" to Link Summon the Link-1 "Salamangreat Balelynx", then activates the effect of "Salamangreat Gazelle" from his hand, Special Summoning it as a "Salamangreat" monster was sent to the Graveyard. The effect of "Balelynx" then activates as it was Link Summoned, allowing Soulburner to add "Salamangreat Sanctuary" from his Deck to his hand and the effect of "Gazelle" also activates as it was Special Summon, allowing Soulburner to send a different "Salamangreat" card from his Deck to the Graveyard, so he chooses "Fusion of Fire" (which is always treated as a "Salamangreat" card; the dub instead has Soulburner send any card from his Deck to the Graveyard). Then he activates the effect of "Spinny" from his Graveyard, Special Summoning it as he controls a "Salamangreat" monster and Varis notes that Soulburner has two Level 3 monsters (in the dub he comments that it's another monster weaker than his). Soulburner overlays the Level 3 "Gazelle" and "Spinny" to build the Overlay Network, chanting "Xyz Summon! The flaming wild horse that cuts through illusions! Rank 3! Salamangreat Miragestallio!" He activates the effect of "Miragestallio", detaching an Overlay Unit to Special Summon a "Salamangreat" monster from his Deck in Defense Position, and Special Summons "Salamangreat Jack Jaguar". Then he chants "Appear again! The circuit that changes the future!" and sets "Balelynx" and "Miragestallio" to Link Summon the Link-2 "Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf", declaring he's going all out. Ai is confused that Soulburner didn't use the effect of "Miragestallio" to return one of Varis's monsters to the Extra Deck and Playmaker notes that "Borreload" can't be targeted by monster effects, so Soulburner must have a reason for not returning "Quadborrel Dragon" (in the dub, the effect of "Miragestallio" is not discussed and everyone simply notes the monsters Soulburner is Summoning aren't strong enough to beat Varis's). Soulburner chants "Appear! The circuit that leads to the future!" and sets "Sunlight Wolf" and "Jack Jaguar" to Reincarnation Link Summon another "Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf", which roars as it appears with flames erupting from its wrists. Soulburner then activates the effect of the reincarnated "Sunlight Wolf", adding a "Salamangreat" Spell or Trap from his Graveyard to his hand, and he returns "Fusion of Fire" to his hand, then activates the effect of "Jack Jaguar" from his Graveyard, returning "Spinny" to his Deck to Special Summon "Jack Jaguar". This activates the other effect of "Sunlight Wolf" to add "Wolvie" from his Graveyard to his hand, which in turn triggers the effect of "Wolvie" to add another card from his Graveyard to his hand, and he chooses "Salamangreat Geyser".

"Noctovision Dragon" intercepts the effect of "Salamangreat Heatleo".

Varis observes that Soulburner's Deck is really moving (in the dub he asks why Soulburner is recycling those useless cards) and Soulburner replies that he isn't finished yet, chanting "Appear! The circuit that changes the future!" and declaring the Summoning conditions are at least two FIRE Effect Monsters, setting "Sunlight Wolf" and "Jack Jaguar" to Link Summon the Link-3 "Salamangreat Heatleo". He activates the "Resounding Roar" effect of "Heatleo" to return a card in Varis's Spell & Trap Zone to his Deck and Varis muses that he sees; Soulburner didn't return "Quadborrel" to his Extra Deck because he wanted to seal Varis's Spell and Trap Cards and focus on "Quadborrel" (in the dub he claims Soulburner knows he can't beat his monsters and is trying to gain any advantage he can). Soulburner admits it's impressive Varis figured out his strategy and Varis refuses to let Soulburner, banishing "Noctovision" from his Graveyard to activate its effect as there is a Link Monster in the Extra Monster Zone and preventing Soulburner's effect from targeting his Set card. Soulburner can only gasp "What?!" as the "Noctovision Dragon" card appears to intercept the "Resounding Roar" and Varis comments that it's too bad the effect of "Heatleo" misfired. Soulburner replies he isn't done yet and he activates "Salamangreat Sanctuary" to reincarnate "Heatleo" and Reincarnation Link Summon another copy. He activates the "Flame Possession" effect of the reincarnated "Heatleo" to make the ATK of "Quadborrel" to same as that of the 500 ATK "Balelynx" in his Graveyard and "Heatleo" blasts a surge of flames at "Quadborrel" to reduce it to 500 ATK. Celebrating his success, Soulburner activates the Spell Card "Fusion of Fire", fusing monsters from his hand and both fields to Fusion Summon a "Salamangreat" Fusion Monster and Ai comments that it's another powerful card (in the dub, Soulburner announces his intention to fuse "Quadborrel" with "Heatleo").

The effect of "Salamangreat Violet Chimera" activates as it attacks.

But Varis claims he's anticipated all of Soulburner's moves and Tributes "Quadborrel" to activate the Trap Card "Borrel Buster Barrier" , which he equips to "Borreload Dragon" and puts counters on it equal to the Link Rating of the Tributed "Quadborrel". Placing two counters, Varis adds that "Borreload" is now unaffected by Soulburner's activated effects and Playmaker observes that the effect of "Fusion of Fire" will also misfire, while Ai comments that "Quadborrel" vanished after Soulburner targeted it. Soulburner grits his teeth and Varis tells Soulburner he should have used the effect of "Miragestallio" to return "Quadborrel" to his Extra Deck (in the dub he comments that Soulburner should make sure he can back up his trash talk), but Soulburner insists it's not enough to stop him and fuses the "Wolvie" in his hand with "Heatleo", chanting "The origin of a crazy soul! The magical beast whose flesh gathers the weapons of evil beasts! Show yourself! Salamangreat Violet Chimera!" ("When the flames consume the old, a new creature emerges to reign supreme! Salamangreat Violet Chimera!" in the dub.) "Violet Chimera" appears with 2800 ATK and Soulburner activates its effect, increasing its ATK by half the original ATK of its Fusion Materials until the end of the turn. "Violet Chimera" gains 2000 ATK, rising to 4800 ATK as Varis observes and Ai admits Soulburner is impressive to increase his ATK more than Varis's. Soulburner then activates the Equip Spell "Salamangreat Kernel" and equips it to "Violet Chimera", causing the blue orb in its chest to alight with a blue flame, then he declares his Battle Phase and orders "Violet Chimera" to attack "Borreload Dragon". As "Violet Chimera" draws blue fire into its chest and breathes it at "Borreload", Soulburner activates the effect of "Kernel" to reduce the ATK of "Borreload" by 800 and Varis gasps "What?!" as "Borreload" falls to 2200 ATK. Kolter praises Theodore's move and Varis activates the "Enemy Negation" effect of "Borreload Dragon" to reduce the ATK and DEF of a monster by 500, reminding Soulburner that he can't activate cards or effects in response. "Violet Chimera" falls to 4300 ATK but Soulburner claims there's much more to his attack and Varis grits his teeth as the additional effect of "Violet Chimera" activates as it is battling a monster whose ATK is different from its original ATK, doubling the ATK of "Violet Chimera" to 8600. Playmaker repeats the ATK value and Ai notes that it's over if this attack hits, but Varis removes a counter from "Borrel Buster Barrier" to activate its effect and halve the damage he takes. The attack then hits, destroying "Borreload Dragon" and reducing Varis to 800 LP, and he declares the battle has ended, so the ATK of "Violet Chimera" falls. "Violet Chimera" returns to 4300 ATK and Soulburner Sets a card to end his turn.

Varis comments that Soulburner failed to deplete all his LP, though Soulburner confidently reminds Varis he destroyed his ace monster and depleted most of his LP. Thunder rumbles through the rainclouds as Varis chuckles and comments that this was the best Soulburner could do; now he'll lose, just as Varis thought he would, and Soulburner gasps in shock and grits his teeth as lightning crackles through the sky. (In the dub, Varis reminds him that a Duel isn't over as long as he has LP left, and he isn't one Soulburner should give a second chance.)

Featured Duel: Soulburner vs VarisEdit

The Duel is conducted as a Master Duel.

Turn 1: Soulburner
Soulburner Normal Summons "Salamangreat Wolvie" (1700/1000). Soulburner activates the Spell "Fury of Fire", Special Summoning up to two "Salamangreat" monsters with different names from his hand and/or GY in Defense Position, but their effects are negated, also, for the rest of this turn after this card resolves, he can only Special Summon from the Extra Deck once. He Special Summons "Salamangreat Falco" (1200/1600) and "Salamangreat Parro" (2000/1000) from his hand, both in Defense Position. Soulburner sets "Wolvie", "Falco", and "Parro" (2+ FIRE Effect Monsters) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon the Link-3 "Salamangreat Heatleo" (2300/↙↑↘) to the Extra Monster Zone on his right-hand side. Soulburner Sets a card.

Turn 2: Varis
Varis activates the Field Spell "Boot Sector Launch". He activates its second effect, Special Summoning up to two "Rokket" monsters with different names from his hand in Defense Position. He Special Summons "Silverrokket Dragon" (1900/100) and "Anesthrokket Dragon" (0/2200), both in Defense Position. Due to the first effect of "Boot Sector Launch", all "Rokket" monsters on the field gain 300 ATK/DEF ("Silverrokket": 1900/100 → 2200/400 ATK/DEF, "Anesthrokket": 0/2200 → 300/2500 ATK/DEF). Varis sets "Silverrokket" and "Anesthrokket" (2 Dragon monsters, including a "Rokket" monster) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon the Link-2 "Quadborrel Dragon" (1000/←↓) to the Extra Monster Zone on his right-hand side. Varis activates the effect of "Quadborrel Dragon", discarding a card, then targeting one face-up monster on the field and destroying it, however he cannot Special Summon Link-2 or lower monsters from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn. He discards "Rokket Recharger", then targets and destroys "Heatleo". Due to the effect of "Quadborrel", if the monster that was destroyed by its effect was a Link Monster, Varis can Special Summon any number of "Rokket" monsters with different names from his hand or GY, up to its Link Rating. "Heatleo" was Link-3, so Varis Special Summons "Silverrokket" (1900/100 → 2200/400 ATK/DEF), "Anesthrokket" (0/2200 → 300/2500 ATK/DEF), and "Rokket Recharger" (0/2100 → 300/2400 ATK/DEF) from his GY, all in Defense Position. As a DARK Dragon monster was Special Summoned to his field, Varis activates the second effect of "Noctovision Dragon" in his hand, Special Summoning it. He Special Summons "Noctovision" in Defense Position (0/2800). Varis sets "Silverrokket", "Anesthrokket", "Rokket Recharger", and "Noctovision" (3+ Effect Monsters) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon the Link-4 "Borreload Dragon" (3000/←↙↘→) to the Main Monster Zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Quadborrel" points to. As "Noctovision" was sent to the GY as Link Material, Varis activates its third effect to draw a card.

"Quadborrel" attacks Soulburner directly (Soulburner: 4000 → 3000 LP). "Borreload" attacks Soulburner directly. Soulburner activates his Set Trap "Salamangreat Geyser", targeting one face-up monster his opponent controls and one "Salamangreat" Link Monster in his GY, then returning that monster in the GY to the Extra Deck, and if he does, that opponent's monster loses ATK equal to the returned monster's Link Rating x 1000 until the end of the turn, then he draws cards equal to the number of Link Monsters his opponent controls. He targets Varis' "Borreload" on his field and "Heatleo" in his own GY and returns "Heatleo" to his Extra Deck. "Heatleo" was Link-3 and Varis controls two Link Monsters, so "Borreload" loses 3000 ATK ("Borreload": 3000 → 0 ATK) and Soulburner draws two cards. The attack continues and Soulburner takes no battle damage. Varis Sets a card.

Turn 3: Soulburner
Soulburner Normal Summons "Salamangreat Spinny" (1000/1500). Soulburner sets "Spinny" (1 Level 4 or lower Cyberse monster) in the Link Arrow to Link Summon the Link-1 "Salamangreat Balelynx" (500/↓) to the Extra Monster Zone on his right-hand side. As "Balelynx" was Link Summoned, Soulburner activates its first effect, then chains the first effect of "Salamangreat Gazelle" in his hand. The chain resolves backwards: Due to the first effect of "Gazelle", as a "Salamangreat" monster was sent to Soulburner's GY, except another copy of "Gazelle" (except during the Damage Step), he can Special Summon "Gazelle" from his hand, which he does so in Attack Position (1500/1000). The effect of "Balelynx" resolves, allowing Soulburner to add "Salamangreat Sanctuary" from his Deck to his hand. As "Gazelle" was Normal or Special Summoned, Soulburner activates its second effect, sending one "Salamangreat" card from his Deck to his GY, except "Salamangreat Gazelle". He sends "Fusion of Fire", which is always treated as a "Salamangreat" card, from his Deck to his GY. As Soulburner controls a "Salamangreat" monster, other than "Salamangreat Spinny", and "Spinny" is in his GY, Soulburner activates its second effect, Special Summoning it, but it is banished when it leaves the field. He Special Summons "Spinny" from his GY in Attack Position. Soulburner overlays the Level 3 "Gazelle" and "Spinny" to Xyz Summon the Rank 3 "Salamangreat Miragestallio" (2000/900/2 ORU) in Attack Position to the Main Monster Zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Balelynx" points to. Soulburner activates the first effect of "Miragestallio", detaching an Overlay Unit to Special Summon a "Salamangreat" monster from his Deck in Defense Position, also he cannot activate monster effects for the rest of this turn, except FIRE monsters ("Miragestallio": 2 → 1 ORU) He Special Summons "Salamangreat Jack Jaguar" (1800/1200).

Soulburner sets "Balelynx" and "Miragestallio" (2 FIRE Effect Monsters) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon "Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf" (1800/↑↓) to the Extra Monster Zone on his right-hand side. Soulburner sets "Sunlight Wolf" and "Jack Jaguar" (2 FIRE Effect Monsters) in the Link Arrows to Reincarnation Link Summon a second copy of "Sunlight Wolf" to the Extra Monster Zone on his right-hand side. As "Sunlight Wolf" was Reincarnation Link Summoned, Soulburner activates its second effect, adding one "Salamangreat" Spell/Trap from his GY to his hand. He adds "Fusion of Fire". As he controls a "Salamangreat" Link Monster, Soulburner activates the second effect of "Jack Jaguar" in his GY, targeting one "Salamangreat" monster in his GY, except "Salamangreat Jack Jaguar", and shuffling that target into the Deck, and if he does, Special Summoning "Jack Jaguar" to his zone his "Salamangreat" Link Monster points to. He targets and shuffles "Spinny" from his GY into his Deck, and Special Summons "Jack Jaguar" in Attack Position to the zone the bottom-center Link Arrow of "Sunlight Wolf" points to. As a monster(s) was Normal or Special Summoned to the zone(s) "Sunlight Wolf" points to (except during the Damage Step), Soulburner activates its first effect, adding one FIRE monster from his GY to his hand, but for the rest of this turn, he cannot Normal Summon/Set or Special Summon monsters with the added monster's name. He targets and adds "Wolvie" from his GY to his hand. As "Wolvie" was added to his hand from his GY by a card effect, Soulburner activates its third effect, revealing it, then targeting one card in his GY and adding it to his hand. He reveals "Wolvie" in his hand, then targets and adds "Salamangreat Geyser" from his GY to his hand. Soulburner sets "Jack Jaguar" and the Link-2 "Sunlight Wolf" (2+ FIRE Effect Monsters) in the Link Arrows to Link Summon the Link-3 "Salamangreat Heatleo" to the Extra Monster Zone on his right-hand side. As it was Link Summoned, Soulburner activates the first effect of "Heatleo", targeting one card in his opponent's Spell & Trap Zone and shuffling it into the Deck. He targets Varis' Set card in his Spell & Trap Zone, but as Soulburner activated a card or effect that targets a Set card(s) he controls while he controls a Link Monster in the Extra Monster Zone, Varis activates the first effect of "Noctovision" in his GY, banishing it to negate that effect, and if he does, his opponent cannot target that Set card(s) with card effects for the rest of this turn.

Soulburner activates the Field Spell "Salamangreat Sanctuary". Soulburner activates its first effect, allowing him to Link Summon one "Salamangreat" Link Monster using one "Salamangreat" Link Monster he controls with the same name as the entire material. Soulburner sets "Heatleo" in the Link Arrows to Reincarnation Link Summon a second copy of "Heatleo" to the Extra Monster Zone on his right-hand side. As "Heatleo" was Reincarnation Link Summoned, Soulburner activates its second effect, targeting one face-up monster on the field and one monster in his GY, and making the ATK of the first target become equal to the other target's until the end of the turn. He targets "Quadborrel" on the field and "Balelynx" in his GY ("Quadborrel": 1000 → 500 ATK). Soulburner activates the Spell "Fusion of Fire", Fusion Summoning a "Salamangreat" Fusion Monster from his Extra Deck using monsters from his hand and/or either field as Fusion Material. Varis activates his Set Trap "Borrel Buster Barrier", Tributing a Link Monster, then targeting one "Borrel" Link Monster he controls and equipping "Borrel Buster Barrier" to it, then placing counters on it equal to the Tributed Link Monster's Link Rating. The equipped monster is unaffected by Varis' opponent's activated effects, also his opponent cannot target the equipped Borrel Buster Barrier" with card effects. He Tributes the Link-2 "Quadborrel" and targets "Borreload", equipping "Borrel Buster Barrier" to it, the places two counters ("Borrel Buster Barrier": 0 → 2 counters). "Fusion of Fire" resolves, and Soulburner fuses the Link Monster "Heatleo" on his field and the "Salamangreat Wolvie" in his hand to Fusion Summon "Salamangreat Violet Chimera" (2800/2000) to the Extra Monster Zone in Attack Position. As "Violet Chimera" was Fusion Summoned, Soulburner activates its first effect, making it gain ATK equal to half the combined original ATK of the Fusion Materials used to Summon it until the end of the turn ("Violet Chimera": 2800 → 4800 ATK). Soulburner activates the Equip Spell "Salamangreat Kernel" and equips it to "Violet Chimera".

"Violet Chimera" attacks "Borreload". As the equipped monster is attacking an opponent's monster, the third effect of "Kernel" reduces the ATK of the attack target by 800 during the Damage Step only ("Borreload": 3000 → 2200 ATK). Varis activates the second effect of "Borreload", targeting one face-up monster on the field and reducing its ATK/DEF by 500, and his opponent cannot activate cards or effects in response to this effect's activation. He targets "Violet Chimera" ("Violet Chimera": 4800/2000 → 4300/1500 ATK/DEF). During damage calculation, Soulburner activates the second effect of "Violet Chimera" as it is battling a monster whose current ATK is different from its original ATK, doubling the ATK of "Violet Chimera" during damage calculation only ("Violet Chimera": 4300 → 8600 ATK). As the equipped monster is battling, Varis activates the second effect of "Borrel Buster Barrier", removing a counter from it to either destroy the opponent's monster that battled the equipped monster after damage calculation and inflict damage to his opponent equal to half the ATK that monster had on the field if he does, OR halve any battle damage he would take from that battle. He removes one counter from "Borrel Buster Barrier" ("Borrel Buster Barrier": 2 → 1 counter) and chooses to halve the battle damage he would take. The attack continues and "Borreload" is destroyed (Varis: 4000 → 800 LP, "Violet Chimera": 8600 → 4300 ATK). As the monster it was equipped to left the field, "Borrel Buster Barrier" is destroyed as well. Soulburner Sets a card.
