OCG Rulings

[Regarding the effect "You must have this many "Crystal Beast" cards in your Spell & Trap Zone to activate and to resolve these effects."][1]

  • It is not treated as an effect.

[Regarding the effect "● 1+"][1]

  • It does not start a Chain Link and is applied in the Field Zone.

[Regarding the effect "● 2+"][1]

  • It does not start a Chain Link and is applied in the Field Zone.
  • It can be applied during damage calculation when you would take battle damage.

[Regarding the effect "● 3+"][1]

  • It starts a Chain Link and can be activated in the Field Zone.
  • It can be activated directly in Chain to the activation of a Spell/Trap Card. (It is a Spell Speed 2 effect.)
  • It cannot be activated during the Damage Step.

[Regarding the effect "● 4+"][1]

  • It starts a Chain Link and can be activated in the Field Zone.
  • It can be activated during your Main Phase.

[Regarding the effect "● 5"][1]

  • It starts a Chain Link and can be activated in the Field Zone.
  • It can be activated during your Main Phase.

Q&A Rulings

A: Even in that case, the activated effect "● 3+" resolves as usual. Similarly, when resolving the effect "● 4+" or "● 5", even if you no longer meet its conditions ("Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins" no longer has the gained effect), the effect resolves as usual.[2]
A: While the effect "● 1+" of "Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins" is being applied, "Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins" is not destroyed when the effect of "Heavy Storm" or "Demise, King of Armageddon" resolves.[3]

Previously Official Rulings

  • These effects are cumulative. For example, if you have 4 or more "Crystal Beast" monsters in your Spell & Trap Card Zone, this card gets all of these effects except the last one.
  • Only the controller of this card can use these effects.
  • This card’s effect “Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can draw 1 card.” starts a Chain. It can only be used once a turn, even if the number of “Crystal Beast” cards in your Spell & Trap Card Zones becomes less than 4, and then becomes 4 or more again after you have used it in a given turn.

Mentions in Other Rulings

  • Field Barrier: This card only prevents the activation of Field Spell Cards themselves. The effects of a Field Spell Card already on the field (like “Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins”) can still be activated while this card is in play.

Judge List Rulings

  • The "3+" effect of this card cannot be activated during the Damage Step.[4]

  1. a b c According to the new game mechanics for Field Spell Cards, now both players can have an active Field Spell Card on their field at the same time, so the other player's Field Spell Card will not be destroyed if their opponent plays one.
  2. According to the new game mechanics for Field Spell Cards, if you activate a new Field Spell Card to replace another, then the old one is sent to the Graveyard, not destroyed.
