Q&A Rulings

  • Q: "Lair of Darkness" is face-up in my Field Zone, and all face-up monsters on the field become DARK-Attribute. In this situation, if a face-up monster that isn't originally DARK is Tributed on my field, can I then activate the effect of a "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair" in my hand or Graveyard that Special Summons it?
A: In this scenario, even if a monster was Tributed that isn't originally DARK, but is treated as DARK by the effect of "Lair of Darkness", you can activate the effect of "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair" that Special Summons it. However, if the effect of "Lair of Darkness" was used to Tribute a DARK monster on your opponent's field when activating a card effect, you cannot activate the effect of "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair" that Special Summons it.[1]
  • Q: When using the effect of "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair" that makes the opponent place 1 card from their hand on the top or bottom of their Deck, is that card shown before being placed on the top or bottom the Deck?
A: When resolving the effect of "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair", your opponent chooses 1 card in their hand and places it either on the top or the bottom of the Deck. This effect does not involve you looking at the card, so you do not get to see which card it is when your opponent places it on the top or bottom of their Deck.[2]
A: When activating the effect of "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair" that Special Summons it from your hand, after resolving a Chain in which a DARK monster on your field was Tributed, you declare its activation in a new Chain and show it to your opponent. In this scenario, when the effect of "Ahrima, the Wicked Warden" was activated, a DARK monster was Tributed, then "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair" was present in your hand after the effect resolved, so you can activate its effect that Special Summons it.[3]
A: "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair" has an effect that prevents the opponent from Tributing it or targeting it with card effects. In this scenario, if "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair" is face-up on your opponent's field, you cannot Tribute it when applying the effect of "Lair of Darkness".[4]
A: "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair" has an effect that prevents the opponent from Tributing it or targeting it with card effects. In this scenario, if "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair" is face-up on your opponent's field, you cannot Tribute it to Special Summon "Gameciel, the Sea Turtle Kaiju" from your hand.[5]
A: When activating the effect of "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair" that Special Summons it from your Graveyard, it must already be in your Graveyard when a DARK monster on your field is Tributed. In this scenario, if "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair" was Tributed to activate its own effect, you cannot activate its effect that Special Summons it.[6]
A: If you Tributed a face-down Defense Position monster with DARK as its original Attribute, you can activate the effect of "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair" that Special Summons it. Therefore, in this scenario, since "Duke Shade, the Sinister Shadow Lord" is a DARK monster, you can Special Summon "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair".[7]
A: Even if your opponent is the original owner of the Tributed DARK monster, as long as a DARK monster was Tributed from your Monster Zone, you can activate the effect of a "Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair".[8]
