Card Rulings:Double Tool C&D
TCG Rulings
- “Double Tool C&D” can only be equipped to a monster you control. If control shifts to the opponent, “Double Tool C&D” will be destroyed.[1]
- A monster equipped with “Double Tool C&D” only negates a monster’s effect during your turn while the 2 monsters are battling. This means that it only negates effects that activate on the field, or are continuous effects while on the field. Effects that activate in the Graveyard like “Sangan” are not negated.[1]
- “Double Tool C&D’s” effect that destroys a monster during the opponent’s turn starts a Chain.[1]
- If, during your opponent’s turn, the opponent’s monster attacks your monster equipped with “Double Tool C&D,” and is destroyed by battle, the effect of “Double Tool C&D” that would destroy that monster does not activate.[1]
- If you have two monsters, each equipped with “Double Tool C&D,” your opponent cannot attack.[1]
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Power Tool Dragon: When "Power Tool Dragon," equipped with "Double Tool C&D," is destroyed by battle during your opponent's turn, and you send "Double Tool C&D" to the Graveyard instead to protect “Power Tool Dragon,” the effect of “Double Tool C&D” that destroys the opponent’s monster does not activate, because it is not on the field at the end of the Damage Step. The effects of “Power Tool Dragon” that add a card to your hand and return 2 cards to the Deck happen at the same time. You can activate “Drastic Drop Off” after the effect resolves.
OCG Rulings
- The "During your turn:" effect cannot negate effects which activate in the Graveyard.[2]
- The negating effect of "Double Tool C&D" is still applied throughout the Battle Phase. If the equipped monster attacks "Gladiator Beast Alexander" and "Gladiator Beast Alexander" activates its effect and returns itself to the Deck, then its effect is negated and you do not Special Summon another "Gladiator Beast" monster from your Deck.[3]
- If a monster equipped with "Double Tool C&D" attacks a "Beast King Barbaros" with 1900 ATK, then the effect of "Beast King Barbaros" is negated and it will have 3000 ATK. After the Battle Phase ends, "Beast King Barbaros" will remain at 3000 ATK.[4]
- "Double Tool C&D" can only be equipped to a monster you control. If your opponent takes control of the equipped monster, then "Double Tool C&D" is destroyed.[5]
- The effect of "Double Tool C&D" which, at the end of the Damage Step, destroys an opponent's monster which battled starts a Chain.[6]
- When a monster equipped with "Double Tool C&D" attacks a monster and that monster is not destroyed by battle, the effect remains and the monster's effects are negated for the remainder of the Battle Phase.[7]
- When a monster equipped with "Double Tool C&D" attacks a monster and a replay occurs, if the equipped monster attacks a different monster, then the originaly attack target's effect remains negated during the Battle Phase.[7]
- When a monster equipped with "Double Tool C&D" attacks a monster and "Gravity Bind" is activated, the attack stops, but the attack target's effect remains negated during the Battle Phase.[7]
- During your opponent's turn, when the monster equipped with "Double Tool C&D" is attacked and destroyed by battle, "Double Tool C&D" is also destroyed and is not on the field at the end of the Damage Step, so the opponent's monster is not destroyed.[8]
- During your opponent's turn, when a "Power Tool Dragon" equipped with "Double Tool C&D" is attacked and destroyed by battle, if you can send "Double Tool C&D" to the Graveyard instead of destroying "Power Tool Dragon", then "Double Tool C&D" is not face-up on the field at the end of the Damage Step so the effect which destroys the opponent's monster does not activate.[9]
- The effect of "Double Tool C&D" will only negate effects which activate on the field, or Continuous Effects which are applied for as long as the monster remains on the field. It cannot negate effects which activate in the Graveyard, like the effect of "Sangan". If "Winged Kuriboh LV10"/"Cyber Valley"/etc is attacked, then its effect can be activated, but the effect is negated because it was activated on the field.[10]
