OCG Rulings

  • This effect is a Quick effect that activates in the hand.[1]
  • This effect does not target.[1]
  • Sending this card to the Graveyard is a cost to acitvate its effect.[1]
  • You do not activate this effect in Chain to an effect wherein your opponent adds to his hand; you activate this effect after you finish resolving an effect wherein your opponent added to his hand.[1]
  • You cannot activate this effect during the damage step.[1]

Q&A Rulings

A: Even while the effect of "Droll & Lock Bird" is being applied, you can activate the first effect of "Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn". However, since you cannot add any cards from your Deck to your hand, even if any of the cards sent to the Graveyard by its effect are "Lightsworn" monsters, you cannot draw any cards.[2]
A: Even if the effect of "Droll & Lock Bird" is being applied, you can activate the effect of "SPYRAL Double Helix". If the top card of your opponent’s Deck is of the declared type, you cannot add a "SPYRAL" monster from your Deck to your hand due to the effect of "Droll & Lock Bird", so you must add one from your Graveyard to your hand, or Special Summon one to your Zone that "SPYRAL Double Helix" points to.[3]
A: Because the effect of "Stellarnova Alpha" includes drawing a card, if the effect of "Droll & Lock Bird" has been applied that turn, "Stellarnova Alpha" cannot be activated. It should be noted that "Stellarnova Alpha" can still be activated in a chain to the effect of "Droll & Lock Bird".[4]
A: If either player is unable to draw cards due to the effects of "Protector of the Sanctuary" or "Droll & Lock Bird", "Silent Burning" cannot be activated.[5]
A: While the effects of "Thunder King Rai-Oh", "Droll & Lock Bird", or "Mistake" are being applied, neither player can activate "Mistaken Arrest".[6]
A: While the effect of "Droll & Lock Bird" is being applied, "Side Effects?" cannot be activated. Also, if the effect of "Droll & Lock Bird" is being applied when "Side Effects?" resolves, your opponent cannot draw any cards, so the effect of gaining Life Points also does not apply.[7]
A: While the effect of your opponent’s "Droll & Lock Bird" is being applied, you can activate "Shared Ride", though you cannot draw if your opponent adds a card from their Graveyard to their hand. (The same is true if the effect of "Droll & Lock Bird" is activated after the effect of "Shared Ride" is being applied.)[8]
A: Even if the effect of "Droll & Lock Bird" is preventing players from adding cards from the Deck to the hand, you can still activate the effect of a "Danger! Bigfoot!" in your hand. In that case, your opponent randomly discards 1 card from your hand normally, but if the discarded card is not a "Danger! Bigfoot!", a "Danger! Bigfoot!" is Special Summoned from your hand but you do not draw a card. If the discarded card is "Danger! Bigfoot!", the effect finishes resolving, and you can choose to activate the second effect of that discarded "Danger! Bigfoot!".[9][10]
