Q&A Rulings

A: A monster used as Link Material for a Link Summon must be face-up in the Monster Zone. Therefore, you cannot use face-down monsters as Link Materials for a Link Summon.[1]
  • Q: "Link Spider" is in my Extra Monster Zone, and "Firewall Dragon" is in the Main Monster Zone under it in the same column. In this situation, can I activate the effect of "Firewall Dragon" that returns monsters to the hand by targeting 2 monsters?
A: The effect of "Firewall Dragon" that returns monsters to the hand targets those monsters, up to the number of monsters co-linked with "Firewall Dragon". In this scenario, the only monster co-linked with "Firewall Dragon" is "Link Spider", so the effect of "Firewall Dragon" can be activated targeting 1 monster.[2]
  • Q: "Imduk the World Chalice Dragon" is in my opponent's Extra Monster Zone, and "Firewall Dragon" is in my Main Monster Zone in the same column. In this situation, can I activate the effect of "Firewall Dragon" that returns monsters to the hand?
A: The effect of "Firewall Dragon" that returns monsters to the hand targets those monsters, up to the number of monsters co-linked with "Firewall Dragon". In this scenario, your "Firewall Dragon" and your opponent's "Imduk the World Chalice Dragon" are co-linked, so you can activate the effect of "Firewall Dragon".[3]
  • Q: "Link Spider" is in my Extra Monster Zone, and "Firewall Dragon" is in the Main Monster Zone under it in the same column. In this situation, I activate the effect of "Firewall Dragon" that returns monsters to the hand. If my opponent chains "Compulsory Evacuation Device" and returns "Link Spider" to the Extra Deck so that it is no longer co-linked with "Firewall Dragon", how does the effect of "Firewall Dragon" resolve?
A: Even if "Firewall Dragon" is no longer co-linked with another monster when its effect resolves, the targeted monsters are returned to the hand normally. Also, if "Firewall Dragon" was returned to the hand instead, the result would be the same and its effect would resolve normally.[4]
  • Q: "Firewall Dragon" is in my Main Monster Zone, and a "Launcher Commander" is in another Main Monster Zone adjacent to it. In this situation, if my opponent activates "Dark Hole" and destroys both monsters, can I activate the effect of "Firewall Dragon" that Special Summons a monster from my hand?
A: In this scenario, although "Launcher Commander" is sent to the Graveyard while "Firewall Dragon" points to it, "Firewall Dragon" itself is sent to the Graveyard at the same time, so you cannot activate its effect that Special Summons a monster from your hand.[5]
  • Q: "Firewall Dragon" is in my Extra Monster Zone, and a "Jack Wyvern" is in my opponent's Main Monster Zone in the same column. In this situation, if my opponent Tributes their "Jack Wyvern" to Tribute Summon "Salvegent Driver", can I activate the effect of "Firewall Dragon" that Special Summons a monster from my hand?
A: In this scenario, even if your opponent's Jack Wyvern is sent to the Graveyard while your "Firewall Dragon" points to it, you can activate the effect of "Firewall Dragon" that Special Summons a monster from your hand.[6]
  • Q: "Firewall Dragon" is in my Extra Monster Zone, and a "Jack Wyvern" is in my opponent's Main Monster Zone in the same column. In this situation, if "Firewall Dragon" attacks that "Jack Wyvern" and destroys it by battle, can I activate the effect of "Firewall Dragon" that Special Summons a monster from my hand?
A: In this scenario, your opponent's "Jack Wyvern" was destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard while your "Firewall Dragon" pointed to it, so you can activate the effect of "Firewall Dragon" that Special Summons a monster from your hand.[7]
  • Q: "Link Spider" is in my Extra Monster Zone, "Firewall Dragon" is in the Main Monster Zone under it in the same column, and "Macro Cosmos" is face-up on the field. In this situation, if my "Link Spider" is destroyed by the effect of my opponent's "Raigeki Break", can I activate the effect of "Firewall Dragon" that Special Summons a monster from my hand?
A: In this situation, the destroyed "Link Spider" is banished instead of sent to the Graveyard due to the effect of Macro Cosmos, so the effect of "Firewall Dragon" cannot be activated.[8]

In this situation, if my "Link Spider" is destroyed by battle with an opponent's monster, can I activate the effect of "Firewall Dragon" that Special Summons a monster from my hand?
