Q&A Rulings

  • Q: There only 2 face-up monsters in my opponent's Monster Zone are "Darklord Nasten" and "Darklord Nergal". In this situation, I activate "Forbidden Droplet" by sending 2 monsters from my hand to the GY. How does the effect of "Forbidden Droplet" resolve if my opponent chains "The Sanctified Darklord" by sending "Darklord Nergal" to the GY?

A: In the given situation, you sent 2 cards to the GY as a cost to activate "Forbidden Droplet", so you must choose exactly 2 Effect Monsters your opponent controls, but there is only "Darklord Nasten" in the opponent's Monster Zone, so the effect of "Forbidden Droplet" is not applied.[2][3]

  • Q: When I activate "Pot of Extravagance" at the start of my Main Phase 1, then chain "Forbidden Droplet", can I send that "Pot of Extravagance" to the GY as the cost of activating "Forbidden Droplet"?

A: In this scenario, since the "Pot of Extravagance" that was activated as Chain Link 1 is a card on your field, you can send it to the GY as cost to activate "Forbidden Droplet" as Chain Link 2. (Your opponent will not be able to chain a Spell or Spell effect directly to the activation of that "Forbidden Droplet".)[4][5]

  • Q: I activate "Forbidden Droplet", by sending to the GY a "Conquistador of the Golden Land" that was Special Summoned to the Monster Zone by its own effect. In that case, which card types can my opponent not chain to "Forbidden Droplet"?

A: When activating "Forbidden Droplet", your opponent cannot chain cards or effects with the same original card types as the cards sent to the GY as the cost. In this scenario, since "Conquistador of the Golden Land" is a Trap Card, your opponent cannot chain Trap Cards to "Forbidden Droplet".[6][5]

  • Q: "Gren Maju Da Eiza" is face-up in my Monster Zone, and I have 10 cards banished, so its ATK and DEF are each 4000. If the effect of "Forbidden Droplet" is applied to "Gren Maju Da Eiza", what does its ATK and DEF become?

A: In this scenario, since the ATK of a monster to which the effect of "Forbidden Droplet" is applied to becomes half its current ATK, the ATK of "Gren Maju Da Eiza" becomes half of 4000, which is 2000. Furthermore, since the effects of "Gren Maju Da Eiza" are negated by "Forbidden Droplet", its DEF becomes 0.[7][8]

  • Q: The effect of "Imperial Order" is applying. In this situation, I activate "Monster Reborn", then chain "Forbidden Droplet" and send "Monster Reborn" to the GY as the cost. In this case, can I apply the effect of "Monster Reborn"?

A: Even in this case, the effect of "Monster Reborn" is negated by "Imperial Order". If the effect of "Imperial Order" is applying when resolving the effect of a Spell Card activated on the field, that effect will be negated. This is true whether or not the Spell Card itself is on the field when resolving its effect.[9][10]

  • Q: The effect of "Royal Decree" is applying. In this situation, I activate "Back to the Front", then chain "Forbidden Droplet" and send "Back to the Front" to the GY as the cost. In this case, can I apply the effect of "Back to the Front"?

A: Even in this case, the effect of "Back to the Front" is negated by "Royal Decree". If the effect of "Royal Decree" is applying when resolving the effect of a Trap Card activated on the field, that effect will be negated. This is true whether or not the Trap Card itself is on the field when resolving its effect.[11][10]

  • Q: The effect of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" is applied to "Darklord Nasten", and the effects of "Darklord Nasten" are negated. If I activate "Forbidden Droplet" in this situation, can I apply its effect to that "Darklord Nasten" whose effects are already negated?

A: You can apply the effect of "Forbidden Droplet" to a monster whose effects are already negated. Even in that case, the effect is applied normally to that monster. Furthermore, even if the effects of "Phantom Knights' Fog Blade" stop applying after "Forbidden Droplet" has resolved, the effects of "Darklord Nasten" are still negated by "Forbidden Droplet" until the end of this turn.[12][13]
