Q&A Rulings
- Q: After Normal Summoning an "Exodia, the Legendary Defender" by Tributing 5 monsters, I activate "Interdimensional Matter Transporter" and banish it until the End Phase. When "Exodia, the Legendary Defender" returns to the field, what happens to its ATK and DEF?
- A: In this scenario, if an "Exodia, the Legendary Defender" that was Normal Summoned by Tributing 5 monsters is banished by the effect of "Interdimensional Matter Transporter" and then returned to the field, its ATK and DEF will be 0. After that, even if the ATK of "Exodia, the Legendary Defender" is increased by another card's effect and it destroys an opponent's DARK Fiend monster by battle, you cannot win the Duel through the victory condition described in its text.[1][2]
- If "Light End Dragon"/"Dark End Dragon" activates its effect, and is then banished by "Interdimensional Matter Transporter", then the ATK/DEF decrease will disappear when "Light End Dragon"/"Dark End Dragon" return to the field.[3]
- If your "Elemental HERO Absolute Zero" is under your opponent's control, then when it is banished by "Dark Core" etc, it activates as your effect, and you destroy all monsters on your opponent's field. If it is banished temporarily with "Interdimensional Matter Transporter"/"Dimensionhole"/etc, then it is considered to be under your opponent's control while banished, so it activates as your opponent's effect and destroys all monsters on your field.[4]
- When an "/Assault Mode" monster is Special Summoned by "Assault Revival" and then banished by "Interdimensional Matter Transporter", the monster is treated as being banished by "Assault Revival". The monster remains banished, and does not return during the End Phase.[5]
- For the "Attack Position:" effect of "Morphtronic Scopen", destroying the monster during the End Phase does not start a Chain. If the Special Summoned monster is flipped face-down with "Book of Moon" or banished temporarily with "Interdimensional Matter Transporter", then the monster is not destroyed during the End Phase.[6]
- The increase to ATK from "Overdoom Line" lasts as long as the monster remains face-up on the field. If the monster is flipped face-down by "Book of Moon" or leaves the field by "Interdimensional Matter Transporter", then the increase to ATK is not reapplied.[7]
- If a Level 6 or higher monster is flipped face-down and then Flip Summoned, or if a Level 6 or higher monster is banished temporarily by an effect like "Interdimensional Matter Transporter", then the monster is still considered to have been Special Summoned. Thus, it will be affected by "Grave of the Super Ancient Organism", so it can neither activate its effects nor attack.[8]
- If your "Fortune Lady Light" is banished from your opponent's field permanently by an effect like "Dark Core", then you can activate its effect and Special Summon a "Fortune Lady" card from your Deck. If your "Fortune Lady Light" is banished from your opponent's field temporarily by an effect like "Interdimensional Matter Transporter" or "Dimensionhole", then your opponent controls "Fortune Lady Light" so they can activate its effect.[9]
- If "Beast King Barbaros" or "Fusilier Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast" is Normal Summoned without Tributes and has its ATK/DEF changed, then if it is flipped face-down by an effect like "Book of Moon", then the effect which changes its ATK/DEF is no longer applied, so "Fusilier Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast" returns to 2800/2000. Also, if it is banished by "Interdimensional Matter Transporter", then the effect which changes its ATK/DEF is no longer applied as soon "Fusilier Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast" leaves the field, so "Fusilier Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast" returns to 2800/2000.[10]
- If you gain control of an opponent's monster with an effect like "Brain Control" or "Enemy Controller" and then the monster is banished by "Interdimensional Matter Transporter", then after the monster returns to the field during the End Phase, your opponent still regains control of the monster. Also, if the monster is banished by "Dimensionhole", then during the Standby Phase the monster returns to the opponent's side of the field.[11]
- For effects like "Future Visions" and "Interdimensional Matter Transporter", when the banished monster is returned to the field the monster is not treated as being Special Summoned, so effects like "Torrential Tribute" may not be activated.[12]
- If an effect like "Book of Moon" or "Interdimensional Matter Transporter" is Chained to the effect of "Worm Bait" so that you do not have "Worm Bait" [sic] face-up on your side of the field when resolving the effect of "Worm Bait", then the "Worm Tokens" are still Special Summoned.[13]
- If "Battle Fader" is Special Summoned by its effect and then banished by an effect like "Interdimensional Matter Transporter", then "Battle Fader" is treated as being banished by its effect "banish this card when it leaves the field.", so during the next End Phase "Battle Fader" is not returned to the field and remains banished.[14]
- Suppose you banish "Malefic Blue-Eyes White Dragon" with a card like "Interdimensional Matter Transporter", and then Summon another "Malefic Blue-Eyes White Dragon", all while "Skill Drain" is active. During the End Phase, even though the effect "There can only be 1 face-up "Malefic" monster on the field." of the "Malefic Blue-Eyes White Dragon" on the field is negated, that effect of the banished "Malefic Blue-Eyes White Dragon" is still active, so the banished "Malefic Blue-Eyes White Dragon" cannot return to the field. Thus, the banished "Malefic Blue-Eyes White Dragon" is sent to the Graveyard.[15]
Mentions in Other Rulings
- De-Synchro: Suppose that a Synchro Monster is banished by "Interdimensional Matter Transporter" and then Special Summoned by "Return from the Different Dimension". If it is targeted by "De-Synchro", then you cannot Special Summon the Synchro Material Monsters from the Graveyard.[16]
- Flelf: After the effect of "Flelf" resolves and increases its Level, if "Flelf" is flipped face-down by "Book of Moon" or banished by "Interdimensional Matter Transporter", then you no longer apply the Level-increasing effect.[17]
- Gandora the Dragon of Destruction: Suppose "Gandora the Dragon of Destruction" is banished by "Interdimensional Matter Transporter" during the turn in which "Gandora the Dragon of Destruction" was Normal Summoned or Flip Summoned. During the End Phase, the effect of "Gandora the Dragon of Destruction" which sends it to the Graveyard will activate after "Gandora the Dragon of Destruction" is returned to the field.[18]
- Judgment Dragon: If "Book of Moon","Interdimensional Matter Transporter" or "Compulsory Evacuation Device" was activated in a Chain to the effect of "Judgment Dragon", and furthermore, "Forbidden Chalice" was also Chained targeting "Judgment Dragon", the effects resolves as follows:
- "Interdimensional Matter Transporter": Resolving backwards, if "Interdimensional Matter Transporter" banishes "Judgment Dragon", its effect is negated.[19]
TCG Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Konami before the introduction of Problem-Solving Card Text. Since the introduction of the new text structure, individual card rulings for the TCG are no longer issued or actively maintained.[20] They have never been formally overturned as a whole and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules and do not contradict card text. |
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Temple of the Sun: If a monster Special Summoned from the Graveyard is removed from play [sic] temporarily by "Interdimensional Matter Transporter" and then returned later, it still gains the bonus from "Temple of the Sun."
Previously Official Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[21] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise.
