OCG Rulings

  • The application of "add that card to your hand" and the application of "send the remaining cards to the GY" are treated as being done at the same time.[1]
  • Even if there are no Spell/Trap Cards in the player's Deck, the effect always activates when "Magical Merchant" is flipped. (Excavation from the Deck is performed, but because there is no Spell/Trap Card in the Deck to add to the hand, after excavating the entire Deck, the resolution finishes with all of the excavated cards being returned to the Deck and shuffled.[1]

Q&A Rulings

A: The effect of "Magical Merchant" excavates cards from the Deck until reaching a Spell/Trap Card. Pendulum Monsters are treated as Monster Cards while in the Deck, not Spell Cards. Therefore, Pendulum Monsters will be sent to the Graveyard by the application of "send the remaining cards to the GY".[2]
