Card Rulings:Number C40: Gimmick Puppet of Dark Strings
OCG Rulings
- The "When this card is Special Summoned: Destroy the monsters with String Counters, and if you do, draw 1 card, then inflict damage to your opponent equal to the highest original ATK among those destroyed monsters in the Graveyard (your choice, if tied)." effect is a Trigger Effect. (This effect does not target. This effect activates even if this card is Special Summoned during the Damage Step.)[1]
- Even if there are no monsters with String Counters when this card is Special Summoned, this effect activates and starts a Chain Link. (In that case, when the effect resolves, nothing happens.)[1]
- The "place 1 String Counter on each face-up monster your opponent controls." effect is an Ignition Effect. (This effect does not target. Detaching 1 Xyz Material from this card is a cost to activate this effect.)[1]
- When the effect of "Number C40: Gimmick Puppet of Dark Strings" resolves, if no monster with String Counters is destroyed, then you cannot draw a card and the "then" effect is not applied. However, if there are 2 monsters with String Counters, and 1 of them is destroyed, then you will draw a card and the "then" effect is applied.[2]
