OCG Rulings

  • The effect "When this card is activated: You can activate 1 "Umi" directly from your hand or GY" is an effect resolution that can be performed when the card "Sea Stealth Attack" is activated.[1]
  • Even if "Umi" is not in the player's hand or Graveyard, the card "Sea Stealth Attack" can be activated. (In that case, the player cannot choose to apply the effect to activate "Umi".)[1]
  • "While "Umi" is on the field, this card gains these effects" is not treated as an effect. While "Umi" is face-up on the player's or opponent's field, this card gains the "●" effects.[1]
  • The effect "● Once per turn: You can banish 1 WATER monster you control until the End Phase; this turn, face-up Spell/Traps you control cannot be destroyed by your opponent's card effects (even if this card leaves the field)" makes a Chain Link. (It does not target. Banishing 1 WATER monster in the player's Monster Zone until the End Phase is a cost to activate this effect.)[1]
  • Returning a monster to the field that was banished to activate the effect "this turn, face-up Spell/Traps you control cannot be destroyed by your opponent's card effects (even if this card leaves the field)" does not make a Chain Link.[1]
  • The effect "● At the start of the Damage Step, if a WATER monster you control whose original Level is 5 or higher battles an opponent's monster: Destroy that opponent's monster" makes a Chain Link. (It does not target. While face-up in the player's Monster Zone, the effect always activates at the start of a Damage Step in which a WATER monster whose original Level is 5 or higher battles an opponent's monster.)[1]

Q&A Rulings

  • Q: There are 2 face-up copies of "Sea Stealth Attack" in my Spell & Trap Zones. In this scenario, can I activate the effect of each copy that prevents face-up Spells/Traps on my field from being destroyed by my opponent's card effects this turn?
A: If there are 2 copies of "Sea Stealth Attack" on your field, and the effect of one has already been applied, you cannot activate the same effect of the second copy. However, you can activate the effect of each copy on the same Chain.[2]
  • Q: I activated the effect of "Sea Stealth Attack" that prevents face-up Spells/Traps on my field from being destroyed by my opponent's card effects this turn, by banishing my face-up "Kairyu-Shin". If "Mystical Space Typhoon" is chained, and "Sea Stealth Attack" is destroyed, what happens?
A: If "Sea Stealth Attack" has been destroyed when its effect resolves, the effect preventing your face-up Spells/Traps from being destroyed by your opponent's card effects this turn is not applied, but the monster that was banished to activate that effect (in this case, "Kairyu-Shin") still returns to the field during the End Phase.[3]
A: When activating the effect of "Sea Stealth Attack" that prevents Spells/Traps on your field from being destroyed by your opponent's card effects this turn, you can banish a WATER-Attribute Token as the cost. In that case, the Token disappears and does not return during the End Phase, but that effect of "Sea Stealth Attack" applies normally.[4]
  • Q: I activate the effect of "Sea Stealth Attack" that prevents Spells/Traps on my field from being destroyed by my opponent's card effects this turn, by banishing "The Legendary Fisherman II". After the effect resolves, if I activate "Magic Planter" and send "Sea Stealth Attack" to the Graveyard, what happens to its effect?
A: As in this scenario, after the effect of "Sea Stealth Attack" resolves, even if "Sea Stealth Attack" itself leaves the field, the effect continues to apply normally. Also, the monster that was banished as the cost to activate the effect ("The Legendary Fisherman II" in this case) returns to the field during the End Phase as usual.[5]
  • Q: "A Legendary Ocean" is face-up in my Field Zone, and a "Metal Reflect Slime" treated as a monster by its own effect is face-up in my Monster Zone. In this situation, can I activate the effect of "Sea Stealth Attack" that makes it so that Spells/Traps on my field are not destroyed by my opponent's card effects this turn, by banishing "Metal Reflect Slime" until the End Phase?
A: When activating the effect of "Sea Stealth Attack", you can do so by banishing a face-up "Metal Reflect Slime" treated as a WATER monster by its own effect. In that case, the effect prevents your Spells/Traps from being destroyed by your opponent's card effects this turn normally, but when the banished "Metal Reflect Slime" returns to the field, it will no longer be treated as a monster so it is immediately sent to the Graveyard.[6]
  • Q: When "Sea Stealth Attack" is activated, is it possible to also activate its effect by banishing a face-up WATER monster until the End Phase, as part of the same Chain Link?
A: The "●" effects of "Sea Stealth Attack" that it gains while "Umi" is on the field are effects that can only be activated after the card itself has successfully resolved. Therefore, you cannot activate them in the same Chain as the initial activation of "Sea Stealth Attack".[7]
