OCG Rulings

  • This card's effect that Special Summons a Wyrm monster from your GY is an Ignition Effect. (It targets 1 Wyrm monster in your GY.)[1]
  • Discarding 1 card is the cost to activate this effect.[1]
  • This card's effect that destroys a card on your opponent's field is a Trigger Effect. (It targets 1 card on your opponent's field.)[1]
  • This effect can be activated optionally when an attack is declared involving a face-up non-Effect Monster on your field. (It can be activated whether it is your monster attacking or your opponent's monster attacking.)[1]

Q&A Rulings

  • Q: If there are no Wyrm monsters in my GY, can I activate the first effect of "Shaman of the Tenyi" by discarding a Wyrm monster?
A: If there are no Wyrm monsters in your GY, you do not have any monsters to target, so you cannot activate the first effect of "Shaman of the Tenyi". (You cannot discard a Wyrm monster to activate it.) Also, if there is a Wyrm monster already in your GY, and you activate the effect of "Shaman of the Tenyi" by discarding a Wyrm monster, you can select the discarded monster as the target.[2][3]
