Card Rulings:Snake Whistle
OCG Rulings
- This card cannot be activated during the Damage Step.[1]
- "Chaos Burst" first destroys the monster, and then inflicts damage - they do not occur simultaneously. Because of this, you cannot activate a card that can only activate when a monster is destroyed, like "Snake Whistle", after a monster is destroyed by "Chaos Burst".[2]
Previously Official Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[3] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. - This card can be activated when a Reptile-Type monster you control is destroyed by a Spell, Trap, or Monster effect. "Snake Whistle" cannot be activated in the Damage Step.
- You can only activate this card if the Reptile-Type monster’s destruction is the last thing to occur in a chain. This is similar to the activation timing for
both “Dark Magician of Chaos” and[Notes 1] “Peten the Dark Clown.”
- You cannot activate this card when a Reptile-Type monster that is being treated as a Spell Card (by "Relinquished", etc.) is destroyed.
- You can activate this card when your opponent's Reptile-Type monster you control (with "Brain Control", etc.) is destroyed and sent to their Graveyard.
- You can activate this card when a Reptile-Type monster you control is destroyed and removed from play (by "Bottomless Trap Hole", etc.)
Notes
- ↑ The latest print of "Dark Magician of Chaos" uses Problem-Solving Card Text, which makes it clear that its effect activates during the End Phase of the turn it was Normal or Special Summoned, not when it is Summoned. This also means that its effect cannot miss the timing. This difference is due to a major change in the functionality of "Dark Magician of Chaos".
