Card Rulings:Summon Limit
OCG Rulings
- This card cannot be activated during the Damage Step.[1]
[Regarding the effect "Neither player can Summon more than two times per turn."][1]
- Summons performed while this effect is not being applied are also counted as Summons performed during that turn.
- If a Summon is negated, or if a card or effect that Special Summons a monster is negated, it does not count as one Summon.
- While this effect is being applied, each player can Summon monsters up to two times per turn. (Neither player can perform any action that would result in 3 or more Summons during that turn.)
Q&A Rulings
- Q: During the turn I have already Summoned two or more times, if "Summon Limit" is activated in Chain to the activation of my "Monster Reborn", can I Special Summon a monster with "Monster Reborn"?
- A: If the effect of "Summon Limit" is applied during the turn you have already Summoned two or more times, you cannot perform more Special Summons. Therefore, if "Summon Limit" is activated in Chain to "Monster Reborn" during the turn you have already Summoned two or more times, you cannot Special Summon a monster with "Monster Reborn".[2]
- Q: During the turn I have already Normal Summoned once, if the effect of "Summon Limit" is being applied, can I activate "Advanced Heraldry Art"?
- A: If "Advanced Heraldry Art" is activated, 2 monsters are Special Summoned by its effect, and immediately after that, 1 Xyz Monster is Xyz Summoned. Therefore, while the effect of "Summon Limit" is being applied, you cannot activate "Advanced Heraldry Art" during the turn you have already Normal Summoned once. If you activate "Advanced Heraldry Art" during the turn you have already Normal Summoned once, and "Summon Limit" is activated in Chain, 2 monsters are Special Summoned, but you cannot Xyz Summon 1 Xyz Monster.[3]
- Q: While the effect of "Summon Limit" is being applied, can I activate the effect of "Speedroid Ohajikid"?
- A: To activate the effect of "Speedroid Ohajikid", you must Normal Summon "Speedroid Ohajikid" face-up once. If the effect of "Speedroid Ohajikid" is activated, a monster is Special Summoned to your field by its effect, and immediately after that, 1 Synchro Monster is Synchro Summoned. Therefore, if you Normal Summon "Speedroid Ohajikid" while the effect of "Summon Limit" is being applied, since you have already Normal Summoned once, you cannot activate the effect of "Speedroid Ohajikid". If "Summon Limit" is activated in Chain to the effect of "Speedroid Ohajikid", since you have already Normal Summoned once, a monster is Special Summoned to your field, but you cannot Synchro Summon 1 Synchro Monster.[4]
- Q: During the turn I have already Normal Summoned once, if the effect of "Summon Limit" is being applied, can I activate the effect that Special Summons "Mithra the Thunder Vassal"?
- A: Yes, you can. The Special Summon of both "Mithra the Thunder Vassal" and the "Vassal Token" are performed by a single effect resolution. Therefore, you can activate the effect of "Mithra the Thunder Vassal" even if you have already Normal Summoned once this turn. ("Mithra the Thunder Vassal" and "Vassal Token" are Special Summoned as usual.)[5]
- Q: While the effect of "Summon Limit" is being applied, can I Special Summon "Grinder Golem" from the hand by the way listed in its text?
- A: As a Special Summoning procedure of "Grinder Golem", 2 "Grinder Tokens" are Special Summoned to your Monster Zone, and then "Grinder Golem" is Special Summoned to your opponent's Monster Zone. If you have not yet Summoned this turn, you can Special Summon "Grinder Golem" from the hand. If you have already Summoned one or more times this turn, you cannot Special Summon "Grinder Golem" from the hand.[6]
- Q: While the effect of "Summon Limit" is being applied, if "The Shallow Grave" is activated, how many Special Summons are performed?
- A: Each player is treated as performing 1 Special Summon by the effect of "The Shallow Grave". Therefore, if you activate "The Shallow Grave" while the effect of "Summon Limit" is being applied, each player can only Summon once more during the same turn.[7]
Previously Official Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[8] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise.
