Card Rulings:The Wicked Dreadroot
Contents
OCG Rulings
- You can Normal Summon this card face-up, or Set it in face-down Defense Position, but in either case you need 3 Tributes.[1]
- The effect "Halve the ATK and DEF of all monsters on the field, except this card." is a Continuous Effect.[1]
- You can Tribute Summon "Slifer the Sky Dragon" or "The Wicked Dreadroot" by Tributing an opponent's monster affected by "Soul Exchange".[2]
- You can Tribute Summon "The Wicked Dreadroot", "The Wicked Avatar", or "The Wicked Eraser" by Tributing "Double Coston" and one other monster.[3]
- "The Wicked Dreadroot", "The Wicked Avatar", and "The Wicked Eraser" cannot be Normal Summoned or Set, except with a Tribute Summon with 3 monsters. "Mausoleum of the Emperor" cannot be used to Normal Summon "The Wicked Dreadroot" etc.[4]
- When your opponent Normal Summons or Special Summons a monster with 4000 ATK, the effect of "The Wicked Dreadroot" is applied immediately, but because the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon" is also activated, its ATK is recalculated. Therefore, due to the effect of "Slifer the Sky Dragon", it goes down from 4000 ATK by 2000 points to 2000 ATK, then the effect of "The Wicked Dreadroot" is applied, so ultimately the monster's ATK becomes 1000.[5]
- "Inferno Reckless Summon" may be activated if your opponent only controls monsters like "Ancient Gear Golem" or "The Wicked Dreadroot" which cannot be Special Summoned. When resolving "Inferno Reckless Summon", your opponent cannot select a monster that cannot be Special Summoned, so only your monsters will be Special Summoned.[6]
- When "The Wicked Dreadroot" and "The Wicked Avatar" are both on the field, whichever monster was Summoned last has its effect applied. If "The Wicked Avatar" is Summoned after "The Wicked Dreadroot", "The Wicked Avatar"'s ATK/DEF are not halved. If "The Wicked Dreadroot" is Summoned after "The Wicked Avatar", "The Wicked Avatar"'s ATK/DEF are halved.[7]
- While "The Wicked Dreadroot" is on the field, if ATK/DEF values are changed by a card effect, the ATK will be recalculated, but it will be halved by "The Wicked Dreadroot". If "The Wicked Dreadroot" and "Command Knight" are both on the field, the ATK value that was increased by 400 (due to the effect of "Command Knight") will be halved, so "Command Knight's" 1600 ATK will be halved to 800 ATK.[8]
Mentions in Other Rulings
- Black Garden: While "Black Garden" is face-up on the field, if the ATK of a Summoned monster is changed by an effect, determine it as described below.
- If "King of the Skull Servants", "Tyranno Infinity", etc. is Normal or Special Summoned, its ATK will first be changed by its own effect, then it will be halved by the effect of "Black Garden". Even if the number of the Graveyard's "Skull Servant" etc. changes, its ATK will not change from the value set by "Black Garden".
- If "The Wicked Dreadroot" is already face-up on the field, a Normal or Special Summoned monster's ATK will be halved by "Black Garden" after applying the effect of "The Wicked Dreadroot". In addition, after applying the effect of "Black Garden", its ATK will be halved by "The Wicked Dreadroot".
- Example: If a 1200 ATK "Marauding Captain" is Normal or Special Summoned, its ATK will become 600 due to the effect of "The Wicked Dreadroot", then its ATK will become 300 due to the effect of "Black Garden", then its ATK will be halved by "The Wicked Dreadroot", making it 150.
- If "Command Knight" is Normal or Special Summoned, its own effect will apply making its ATK 1600, then the effect of "Black Garden" will be activated, and at that time its ATK will be halved to make it 800.
- While "Burden of the Mighty" is already applying, if a monster is Normal or Special Summoned, the effect of "Burden of the Mighty" will be applied, then "Black Garden" will be activated, halving its current ATK.
- Example: If a 2100 ATK "Cyber Dragon" is Normal or Special Summoned, its ATK will be decreased to 1600 by the effect of "Burden of the Mighty", then its current ATK will be halved by "Black Garden", becoming 800.[9]
Previously Official Rulings
These TCG rulings were issued by Upper Deck Entertainment and have since been declared unofficial by Konami.[11] They were previously considered official and can still be correct, as long as they follow the official gameplay rules, or unless Konami has issued a ruling that says otherwise. Judge List Rulings
