Q&A Rulings

  • Q: There are 2 copies of "Toll Hike" face-up in my opponent's Spell & Trap Zone, and their effects are applying. In this situation, when I declare an attack with a monster, do I have to send 2 cards from my hand to the Graveyard?
A: If the effects of 2 copies of "Toll Hike" are applying, players cannot declare an attack unless they send 2 cards from their hand to the Graveyard.[2]
  • Q: "Toll Hike" is face-up in my opponent's Spell & Trap Zone, and its effect is applying. In this situation, when I declare an attack with "Elemental HERO Wildheart", do I have to send a card from my hand to the Graveyard?
A: "Elemental HERO Wildheart" is unaffected by Trap effects, but the effect of "Toll Hike" is not an effect applied to monsters, so you must still send a card from your hand to the Graveyard to declare an attack with "Elemental HERO Wildheart".[3]
  • Q: "Toll Hike" is face-up in my opponent's Spell & Trap Zone, and its effect is applying. In this situation, when I declare an attack with "El Shaddoll Construct", I send "Shaddoll Beast" from my hand to the Graveyard. Can I activate the effect of "Shaddoll Beast" and draw 1 card?
A: While the effect of "Toll Hike" is applying, cards sent to from your hand to the Graveyard in order to declare an attack are not treated as being sent to the Graveyard by a card effect. In this scenario, you cannot activate the effect of "Shaddoll Beast".[4]
