OCG Rulings

  • The "You can target 1 monster in your opponent's GY; Special Summon it to your opponent's field in Defense Position, but it becomes a Zombie monster" effect Special Summons the monster to the opponent's side of the field in Defense Position, and it will become a Zombie monster. This effect is an Ignition Effect. (This effect targets 1 monster in your opponent's GY.)[1]
  • The "If a Zombie monster(s) is Special Summoned from either GY: Draw 1 card" effect is a Trigger Effect that activates on the field. (It does not target.)[1]
  • The effect to draw 1 card is mandatory and must activate if another Zombie monster is Special Summoned from either GY to the field, even during the Damage Step.[1]
  • "If you would Tribute a monster(s) for a Tribute Summon, you can Tribute a Zombie monster(s) your opponent controls, even though you do not control them" is a Continuous Effect. (You can use a Zombie monster that is face-up in your opponent's Monster Zone as a Tribute to perform a Tribute Summon or Tribute Set of a Zombie monster. This effect does not increase the number of times you can Summon per turn.)[1]

Q&A Rulings

A: Even if "Vampire Sucker" and another Zombie monster are Special Summoned from the GY at the same time, the effect of "Vampire Sucker" will activate.[2]
  • Q: My "Vampire Sucker" is in an Extra Monster Zone, and a "DNA Surgery" that was activated by declaring Zombie is face-up in the Spell & Trap Zone. In this situation, if a monster whose original Type is not Zombie is Special Summoned from the GY by the effect of "Monster Reborn", will the effect of "Vampire Sucker" that draws a card activate?
A: In this scenario, the effect of "DNA Surgery" will treat the Special Summoned monster as a Zombie, so the effect of "Vampire Sucker" will activate.[3]
A: When applying the effect of "Vampire Sucker", if you Tribute Summon a Level 7 or higher monster and include an opponent's Zombie monster as a Tribute, you can still Tribute "Vampire Sucker" itself as well. Therefore, in this scenario, you can Tribute your "Vampire Sucker" and your opponent's "Gem-Knight Garnet" treated as a Zombie monster for the Tribute Summon.[4]
  • Q: There are 2 copies of "Zombie Master" face-up in my opponent's Monster Zone. In this situation, if I have "Vampire Sucker" in my Extra Monster Zone, can I Tribute both of my opponent's monsters to Tribute Summon a Level 7 or higher monster?
A: When Tribute Summoning a Level 7 or higher monster, you can apply the effect of "Vampire Sucker" and Tribute any necessary Zombie monsters from your opponent's field. If there are 2 or more Zombie monsters on your opponent's field, you can Tribute them both for a Tribute Summon.[5]
A: "Vampire Sucker" is a Zombie monster, so in this scenario, you can activate the effect of "Vampire Fraulein". Since "Vampire Sucker" is a Link Monster, the effect of "Vampire Fraulein" can only increase its ATK during damage calculation.[6]
A: Since the effect of "Return of Zombie" cannot Special Summon a Link Monster from the GY, you cannot banish a Zombie monster controlled by a player whose only Zombie monster in the GY is a Link Monster. In this scenario, you can activate "Return of Zombie", but you cannot banish "Vampire Fraulein", so you must banish "Drochshúile the Spirit King" and Special Summon "Mezuki" from your GY.[7]
A: Since the effect of "Astra Ghouls" that changes monsters' Levels based on the die roll also applies to "Astra Ghouls" itself, you can activate the effect even if you have Xyz and Link Monsters on your field. However, since Xyz and Link Monsters do not have Levels, the effect of "Astra Ghouls" does not apply to your "Vampire Sucker" or "Dhampir Vampire Sheridan" in this scenario, and only "Astra Ghouls"' Level changes.[8]
A: In this scenario, when "Vampire Sucker" itself is Special Summoned from the GY, its effect that draws 1 card does not activate.[9][10]
