OCG Rulings

• The monster effect "If this face-up card on the field would be destroyed, you can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card instead'" is a Continuous Effect. (It can be applied even during the Damage Step.)

• You can detach 1 Xyz Material from "Wind-Up Zenmaines" when it would be destroyed by battle or a card's effect while face-up in your Monster Zone. (If it would be destroyed by battle or a card's effect multiple times in the same turn, you can detach 1 Xyz Material for each.)

• The monster effect "Once per turn, during the End Phase, if this effect was used this turn: Target 1 card on the field; destroy it" is a Trigger Effect that activates on the field. (It targets 1 card on either player's field. If "Wind-Up Zenmaines" itself is no longer on the field during the End Phase, the effect is not activated.)

• The monster effect "Target 1 card on the field; destroy it" activates only once during the End Phase of the turn it applied its own monster effect and detached an Xyz Material. (Even if its monster effect was applied twice and it detached 2 Xyz Materials that turn, it only activates once during the End Phase.)

• After applying the effect "If this face-up card on the field would be destroyed, you can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card instead" of "Wind-Up Zenmaines", if "Wind-Up Zenmaines" itself has become face-down before the End Phase, the effect "destroy it" is not activated. Also, even if a "Wind-Up Zenmaines" that became face-down becomes face-up again before the End Phase, its effect is not activated. Also, when resolving the effect "Target 1 card on the field; destroy it" of "Wind-Up Zenmaines", if "Wind-Up Zenmaines" itself has become face-down, the effect to destroy the targeted card is applied.

• If a "Wind-Up Zenmaines" that applied its effect "If this face-up card on the field would be destroyed, you can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card instead" has been changed to the opponent's control by "Enemy Controller" etc. before the End Phase, the opponent (who controls it) activates the effect of "Wind-Up Zenmaines". Also, "Wind-Up Zenmaines" can be returned to its owner's control (due to the effect of "Enemy Controller") before its effect is activated on the opponent's field. In that case, after you regain control of "Wind-Up Zenmaines", you can activate the effect "Target 1 card on the field; destroy it" of "Wind-Up Zenmaines".
