  • This monster is wearing a yoke around its neck, a wooden beam used between a pair of oxen or other animals to helm them pull together on a load; yokes are also used to symbolize subservience and great burdens.
    • The effect of "Battlin' Boxer Lead Yoke" to gain 800 ATK each time an Xyz Material is detached from it simulates someone breaking free of their restraints.
    • In the Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL anime, whenever an Overlay Unit is detached from "Battlin' Boxer Lead Yoke", the monster is shown destroying its restraints.
  • This card's Japanese name, "Burning Knuckler Leadblow the Bound Barbarian", is a reference to the enslavement of "barbarian" tribes and peoples by the ancient Greeks and Romans, including being used as manual labor and (in Rome) as gladiators. In ancient Rome, defeated enemies were also "sent under the yoke" by being led under a "yoke" made of spears, initially as a form of ritual in some cases, and later as a means of humiliation.
    • Alito, who uses a "Battlin' Boxer" Deck in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL anime, used to be a gladiator in his past life as a human.
    • Of note is that the boxing games held in the first Olympics are considered the earliest example of a formal ruleset for boxing.
