  • This monster appears in the artwork of "Red Reign".
    • This monster's silhouette appears in the artwork of "Red Carpet".
    • A burning geoglyph of this monster appears in the artwork of "Red Zone".
  • This monster is an upgraded Double Tuning form of "Red Dragon Archfiend".
    • In the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime, Jack Atlas created this card by sealing Red Nova (the strongest "Earthbound Immortal") into a card and merging it with "Red Dragon Archfiend" (the Signer Dragon with the highest ATK, at 3000), via the state of Blazing Soul.
    • This card is named after a nova, an astronomical event that causes the sudden appearance of a bright, apparently "new" star, that slowly fades over several weeks or many months.
    • "Scar-Red" (スカーレッド Sukāreddo) in this card's Japanese name (スカーレッド・ノヴァ・ドラゴン Sukāreddo Nova Doragon, "Scar-Red Nova Dragon") is a portmanteau of "Scarred" (スカーレッド Sukāreddo) and "Red" (レッド Reddo).
  • This card is the rival counterpart of "Shooting Star Dragon".
    • Both are the upgraded forms of the ace monsters of major characters in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime: Jack Atlas' "Red Dragon Archfiend" for this card and Yusei Fudo's "Stardust Dragon" for "Shooting Star Dragon".
    • In the anime, this card was created by Jack by sealing an ancient deity (Red Nova), while "Shooting Star Dragon" was given to Yusei by a futuristic god (Z-one).
      • This card was was acquired by Jack when he proved that he had a Blazing Soul, while "Shooting Star Dragon" was given to Yusei while he was in a Clear Mind state. Both Jack and Yusei also said that the states of Clear Mind and Blazing Soul are opposite concepts and weapons to defeat Iliaster, in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's episode 113113: "Burning, Seething Soul! Scarred Nova Dragon".
      • Jack obtained "Red Nova Dragon" in a Ground Duel, while Yusei obtained "Shooting Star Dragon" in a Turbo Duel.
      • This card can gain ATK based on the number of Tuner monsters in the Graveyard (representing the past), while "Shooting Star Dragon" can attack multiple times based on the number of Tuner monsters excavated from the Deck (representing the future).
    • Both have an effect of banishing themselves to negate an attack and Special Summoning themselves on the field during the End Phase.
    • Both monsters have mirrored poses in their card artworks.
