Card Trivia:The World Tree
- The World Tree is an important feature in the cosmology of Norse mythology. Known as Yggdrasil, it was a great tree whose branches spanned the whole universe. Midgard (the world of humans, Earth) sat at the center, while Asgard (the realm of the gods) was situated above, Niflheim, or Hell, was below, and Jotunheim, the realm of the giants, surrounded. Several legends involve Yggdrasil, such as the story of how Odin hanged himself from its branches for nine days in order to gain the power of runic magic.
- A face is visible among the branches in this card's artwork; the face is missing its left eye, and is presumably intended to resemble the Odin.
- In Greek mythology, the World Tree was under the ground and held Earth. Every day, it would be sawed by a type of goblins called Kallikantzaroi. When Christmas came, they would come to the surface to bring trouble to people. However, they forgot that the World Tree would heal itself. The Kallikantzaroi then must start over, sawing again until Christmas day.
