When the prize pupil, Zane Truesdale, returned to Duel Academy, after studying abroad, Sheppard organized a tournament, among the other students where the winner would get to face Zane in a Duel. He apologized to Zane for hosting the tournament so soon, but Zane insisted it was okay and that he was looking forward to the tournament. The transfer students from the American Duel Academy, David Rabb and Reggie MacKenzie requested his permission to participate in order to get a feel for the skill of the local students. Sheppard was pleased with the request, since his students had not had much chance to go against students from other nations, and approved.
