The horror began when the city was shrouded in darkness.

The "Vendread" are wraiths that increase in number as they attack the living.

While everyone else was gripped by despair, one man was compelled by vengeance to take a stand against the undead—even after becoming one of them.

Dark, Dead Vengeance is a Solo Mode gate in Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, and is focused on the Vendread archetype.

Like most Gates in Solo Mode, each Duel can be played with either the player's own Deck or a provided Loaner Deck fitting the theme of the Gate, with separate rewards for each. Completion of this Gate for the first time unlocks the "Abyssal Underworld" Secret Pack for 24 hours.

Chapter 1: Scenario[edit]

The story takes place in a modern city, enshrouded in an eternal night and consumed by the invasion of the "Vendread". These zombies started as reanimated corpses but the influence of the "Vendread" mutated them into hideous forms. Guided only by instinct, these zombies would wander the streets and attack any living being in their path, turning their victims into Vendread themselves. No conventional weapon could stop them, and soon the city was overrun, with the remaining survivors retreating into a cordoned-off section of the city as their remaining solace.

Among the Vendread army was a young man who had suffered the same fate as numerous other civilians. However, as luck would have it, he would encounter a young woman being attacked by the Vendread. The man caught sight of her pendant, and identified her as his former lover. Stricken with grief that his lover had died, the man's humanity flickered back to life, fueled by sheer anger at the horde. This anger transformed his body into "Revendread Slayer", and he swore vengeance against the undead horde.

Chapter 2: Scenario[edit]

As the Vendread horde threatened to break into the remaining solace of civilization, Revendread Slayer began his work, tearing down the army of Vendread and fighting ceaselessly against them. Once the Vendread wave was defeated, he would vanish as quickly as he had appeared, for his cause was fueled by vengeance rather than heroism. As the nights continued, his efforts in fighting the horde would be retold among the surviving civilians as they use him as a beacon of hope. However, the horde would not take these defeats lightly, and several Vendread would merge into "Vendread Chimera", a monstrosity wielding the strength of multiple beasts that would put Slayer on his toes.

Through their repeated clashes, Slayer discovered a weakness: a core within the beast. Lunging for the core, he tore it out of the mass, and the Chimera crumbled into a pile of rotting flesh and bones. Though this was the a major victory for Slayer, his war was far from over...

Chapter 3: Practice[edit]

Learn the ins and outs of "Vendread" Decks.

This chapter serves as a tutorial for using the "Vendread" archetype.

Chapter 4: Duel 1[edit]

Loaner Deck[edit]

"Revendread Origin" performs a Ritual Summon by combining three methods: Tributing a monster from your hand, Tributing a monster from your field, and banishing a Zombie monster from your Graveyard. When "Vendread Revenants" and others are used to Ritual Summon from the field, they can give additional effects to the Ritual Monster they call fort. Use the appropriate monster for the situation and aim for a Ritual Summon.

Opponent's Deck[edit]

"Vendread Chimera" has the effect of nullifying the activation of a Spell, Trap, or monster effect that would destroy a card on the field, and destroying that card instead. Prevent your opponent's attack with "Pyramid Turtle" and "Goblin Zombie," and prepare for a Ritual Summon with "Revendread Origin," which also allows you to banish Zombie monsters in your Graveyard for a Ritual Summon.

Chapter 5: Scenario[edit]

Slayer's victory over the Chimera wasn't enough to get the horde to abate, and their battles raged on as always. One day, Slayer felt a strong menacing presence, and discovered that the wall that kept the survivors safe had been breached. Heading the force that broke through the wall was a new leader, clad in heavy armor — "Vendread Battlelord," born from the collective grudges of the defeated Vendread. Faced with his mightiest foe yet, Slayer puts his life on the line for the sake of his vengeance.

Battlelord proved to be a fearsome foe, however, as it could draw power from both the Vendread horde and the civilians killed from collateral damage. Slayer would eventually be overpowered by Battlelord's immense strength.

Chapter 6: Scenario[edit]

The defeated Slayer lays limp on the ground, and Battlelord picks him up, attempting to absorb his powers. A glint of the locket reignited Slayer's fighting spirit, and he turns around, tearing Battlelord's core out of his chest. The tables have turned — Slayer holds Battlelord's core over him and begins absorbing its power for himself. However, the core would not submit, as it reaches to his locket and takes the form of his lost love. Slayer is absolutely outraged at the perversion of his beloved, and finishes his transformation into "Revendread Executor."

Chapter 7: Duel 2[edit]

Loaner Deck[edit]

"Revendread Executor" has high ATK, and if it was Ritual Summoned and is in the Monster Zone, the opponent cannot target cards you control with card effects, except this card. It can protect Spell/Trap Cards and other monsters that are supporting the battle, so deploy it centered around "Revendread Executor" and defeat powerful enemies!

Opponent's Deck[edit]

Due to the effect of "Vendread Battlelord" that banishes 1 "Vendread" card from your Graveyard, your opponent cannot activate the effect of any one type of card (Monster/Spell/Trap) during that turn. If you can assess your opponent's tactics and declare the type of cards you don't want them to activate in that moment, you'll have the upper hand in the fight!

Chapter 7.1: Locked[edit]

You must spend 600 DARK Orbs to unlock this chapter.

Chapter 7.2: Duel 3[edit]

Loaner Deck[edit]

This Deck is centered around "Vendread" and incorporates cards like "Diviner of the Herald" to support Ritual Summons and Synchro Summons. Not only can the effect of "Diviner of the Herald" send "Herald of the Arc Light" from the Extra Deck to the Graveyard to prepare the cards needed for a Ritual Summon, but it can also use its Tuner traits to Synchro Summon "Chaos Ruler, the Chaotic Magical Dragon" to help send "Vendread" cards to the Graveyard.

Opponent's Deck[edit]

This Deck combines "Vendread" and "Vampires," which activate powerful effects by paying LP. You can Special Summon monsters destroyed in battle to your field with cards such as "Vampire Scarlet Scourge." Use this monster to Xyz Summon "Dhampir Vampire Sheridan" or aim to Ritual Summon "Vendread" monsters.

Chapter 8: Goal[edit]

VendreadDaybreak-MADU-EN-VG-artwork.png

With his newfound power coursing through his body, Executor carved his way through the Anima army. His new strength, coupled with his unending hatred, was more than what his body and mind could handle, and he slowly lost his sanity to the carnage of battle. After countless fights, he emerged fully victorious over the horde, bringing the unending night to a close. The remaining survivors, seeing day break for the first time in a long time, cheered his victory. Slayer, on the other hand, simply collected his locket and faded from existence, satisfied that his goal was complete.

Life would return to the city, but the scars of the invasion would remain, lingering in the populace as a fear of the night and manifesting as unending nightmares of what they had faced. However, their peaceful nights would be protected by a new hero. The hope that Slayer unwittingly inspired in the citizens had allowed him to reincarnate as "Avendread Savior." Now, he fights again — not out of hatred for an enemy, but to defend the ones who saved him.
