Forum:"Read more" sections

"Read more" sections seem to popping up in various articles. Since the text shown does not appear in the code when editing said articles, I have to assume it's either someone messing with the templates or another new "feature" that Wikia has added. Anyone know what's going on? Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 03:29, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

I've also noticed that, while slightly annoying, it is at the bottom of the page, so its isn't too bad. I do think it is unnecessary...BassNettoHikari2...Talk to me... 06:58, December 7, 2010 (UTC)

Sonofa...This is really messing up Card Trivia pages. Due to the wording we use on said pages, the text in "related pages" ends up sounding really, really disjointed. And it can't even be turned off, nor does using MonoBook cause it to disappear. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 17:07, December 8, 2010 (UTC)
We could use some Javascript to change the header to "Related articles" or something, but Wikia would probably revert it (can't have us mortals mucking about with their Most Holy Skin, now can they? =P ). This is a problem, though. ダイノガイ千?!? · Talk⇒Dinoguy1000 17:15, December 8, 2010 (UTC)
I don't think that there's anything wrong with changing the name of the header. We wouldn't need JavaScript to change it either. Just edit MediaWiki:Wikiarelatedpages-heading.
We are allowed to request to have the feature disabled through Special:Contact following community approval, but we can't disable it ourselves with css/js. And they can only disable it outright, so we can't have it disabled in particular namespaces. I don't know if we are allowed to use css to hide it in particular namespaces. -- Deltaneos (talk) 19:47, December 10, 2010 (UTC)
Interesting. I'm actually not sure about disabling it outright, since I could see it actually being useful on certain pages, just not sub-pages of cards. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 21:34, December 10, 2010 (UTC)
If anyone doesn't know the feature is checking the categories the page is in and displaying the pages that have been most visited in the past month (maybe a different amount of time) that are in many of the same categories as the page. Although for pages in large categories, I'm seeing some random stuff that's hardly the most visited and contradicts what the category galleries are saying are the most visited.
I don't really like the feature in general, but I have been told that usage stats have shown people are using the section and subsequently staying on the site longer. (Referring to Wikia in general, not specifically this site.) It might be worth keeping them for that reason.
But there are definitely pages that could do without them, such as the other card info pages. I've heard that adding __NORELATEDPAGES__ to a page should remove the section and adding categories to MediaWiki:Categoryblacklist should stop pages getting information from those categories. Although neither of them seem to be working. -- Deltaneos (talk) 23:13, December 10, 2010 (UTC)
