Forum:"When this card is summoned"

Hey everyone, my first time posting here. Hope to get a few awnsers for a bunch questions I have.

There are multiple cards with "When this card is normal summoned", or "When this card is special summoned-", however I've noticed a few cards that just say "When a monster is summoned". An example of this would be Torrential Tribute: "Activate only when a monster is Summoned. Destroy all monsters on the field". Does this effect count for all types of summoning, or is "summoned" just short for a normal summon? Can I activate this card on special summon like Monster Reborn?

My second question would be about the following effect (Dark Necrofear):
"This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by removing from play 3 Fiend-Type monsters in your Graveyard."
I found this effect to be a bit confusing. Does this mean that I can special summon this card to the field just by removing 3 fiends from my graveyard? Or does it mean that I have to use a special summon effect (something that allows me to special summon something from my hand or deck), and then remove 3 fiends from my graveyard, to make the special summoning effect possible?

Third question adds really well to the previous one: Since this is a special summon, can I use this during the same turn I do a normal summon?

I can remember being confused about more things, but these are the ones I remember at the moment. Wouldn't want to flood a thread with too many questions. Thanks in advance for any help, I'd really appreciate it. :) —This unsigned comment was made by 83.87.174.212 (talkcontribs) 11:39, October 15, 2012‎

1 - Yes, "Torrential Tribute" triggered to any kind of Summon, except during Battle Phase, when the Searcher select other monster (Mystic Tomato, for explain, can't triggering "Torrential Tribute" during Damage Calculation)
2 - Nope, check her article, she is updated with PSCT lore, which must be directly from the hand. That old lore you post always driving many players to wrong side by thought that they can also including from the Graveyard or Banished Zone. But that's no longer true.
3 - Of course, "Special Summon" don't used up "Normal Summon" at all - "Normal Summon" only can be used once per turn, unless the cards that have an effect to increasing the number of the Normal Summon as many as possible. Like "Ultimate Offering" or "Double Summon"; they added 1 more Normal Summon (by pay 500 Life Points only for Offering). --iFredCat 15:57, October 15, 2012 (UTC)

Alright, first of all: Thanks a ton for awnsering! I really appreciate it. :)

1 - So basicly "summoned" includes all forms of summoning, alright. That awnsers it perfectly. :D

2 - You kind of misunderstood my question on this one, though this is fully my own fault. Monster Reborn is a bad example, but I just couldn't come up with a good example of a card that allows special summon from the hand. However, this time, I have one. Allow me to reword it. Dark Necrofear can be special summoned from the hand by removing 3 fiend-type monster from your graveyard. However can I just remove 3 fiend-type mosters from my graveyard from play, or do I need an special summon effect for this? For two example senario's:

- Remove 3 fiends from my graveyard from play - special summon Dark Necrofear to the field.
- Use an effect such as Stygian Street Patrol's - remove 3 fiends from my graveyard from play - special summon Dark Necrofear to the field.

So in short: do I need a 'special summon from the hand' effect to activate a special summoning condition monster?

3 - Perfectly awnsered, thanks a ton. I already thought that was the case, but there was something that made me unsure.—This unsigned comment was made by 83.87.174.212 (talkcontribs) 10:46, October 17, 2012‎

Indeed, "Summoned" just referring to any form of Summons. It's like "Basic Land" referring to Plains/Swamp/Mountain/Forest/Island while "Land" referring to any of those mentioned lands plus special lands (that can be also dual or cycling or etc.) in Magic: The Gathering.
For "Dark Necrofear", you have to banishing three Fiend Monsters to Special Summon her only at first time, if you tried the other ways - you're break the rulings. It's like you're making a chocolate cake, you need those "materials" to create that cake by removed chocolate favor, flour, milks, etc.
Good to know. --iFredCat 15:02, October 17, 2012 (UTC)
