Forum:Anime duels and dub issues

I've been trying to generalise the Records page, or more rather, the Decks page for the anime duelists, because frankly, it's become quite cluttered with numerous people's opinions. So far, I've come up with a general "format", which I've tried to apply on all the character deck pages under the listed category.

• Win - obvious.
• Lose - ditto. Losing Battle Royals (anything other than first place) should yield this result, with a semi-colon to highlight the position (not my idea, but a good one nonetheless).
• Draw - ditto.
• No result - I think this is quite subjective. I've been using it for all duels that have been interrupted in one way or another.
• Not shown - cliffhanger duels, or duels that have not been shown at all in the show. This raises several disrepancies in some episodes, such as this. I believe the default was "not shown", but yet they do duel on screen, making it invalid. However, we cannot show that it has "no result", unless we talk about it technically (they did not finish the duel canonically, and therefore there can be no "result"). Perhaps we could add an Inconclusive?

About teams:

• "with" - I use the term for any duel with assistance, such as a Tag Duel. I'm not too sure about Rua/Ruka vs. Demak because Ruka is not there for much of the duel, and she merely takes over it as well. Same thing with Yugi/Kaiba vs. Noah, as mentioned [[1]].

I've disregarded all "reasons" because that is what the episode links are for, although I understand that this is not particularly... popular among certain contributors (although a large number are just IP addresses)

What should be the consensus on the usage of terms? Are there any other (more) suitable ideas to generalize the records? Should "reasons", such as "forfeit" and "on purpose" be allowed?

On dub issues, just something I wanted to get off my mind. Are our 5D's character biographies too Japanese (original)-oriented? It appears as if some articles are written from the original, then chunks of the dubbed version are dumped underneath (see Haley) or bracketed and put as extra information of sorts as the dub comes out. I don't think this happens very often on previous series' articles, so it should be just 5D's. Are we still dub-oriented? Regarding the dub issues, I think the 5D's articles are doing it right. The original is what the writers intended and the dub is translators preferences. The original seems more important so it should get first preference. The dub is still official so should still be noted. I know the names we use favour the dub and a lot of users hate using them. But the card game is what most of our readers are here for and they're way more familiar with the English version names and the dub names are consistent with these names.

Regarding the Duel results. Agree with pretty much with all you've said. As for the reasons for a loss. People like to include stuff that says it's not they're fault that they lost, but really it's just the result at the end of the day the box is looking for. "Surrendered", "on purpose" and "fainted" are analogous to "ran out of Life Points", "Decked out", "Exodia'd" or "disqualified". All these details are better left to the biography, while the result box gives just the plain result. -- Deltaneos (talk) 10:58, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

Conclusion

Since no one has posted here for about 2 weeks, I'll go ahead and change as many pages as I can to the general format I've proposed.
