Forum:Approximated names

You've problably noticed how at the top of some articles, its says something like "The Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, German, Portuguese and Spanish names given are approximations." This is used to distinguish if the given names in those languages have been used officially or not. (ie, are they used in the card game, anime, manga, video games etc.)

It's useful in the above field, but considering so few people who add names care to mention this (and it's not a very pretty-looking notice), do people think it's worthwhile including it? -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:50, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

It's not that I'm for or against removing it, but loads of articles use it and loads don't. I'd like it if could pick one option and stick with that for all articles. -- Deltaneos (talk) 21:58, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

• Well, I'm all for tagging unofficial names as approximations, but the translators frequently forget to tag them as such. Maybe we should:

Either leave that "tagging" out, or

Find an easier way to do it? Maybe we could do something like: |grname = (Greek name here)*, and the asterisk could refer to a line saying: "Names marked with a * are unofficial/approximations". What do you think? --Darth Covah 11:55, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, I suppose we all agree that knowing that a name is unofficial is better than not knowing so. I acknowledge that the The X name given is an approximation tag is a bit of an overlooked eyesore (oxymoron), but I don't think that it's a good idea to drop distinction between official and unofficial names. So, for solutions:
1- Maybe we can separate official from unofficial names?
2- The asterisk and similar ideas sound good, but wouldn't an asterisk affect the name itself in say, searches and the Facts box?
3- I'm pretty sure there's a more elaborate method of adding small notes / distinguishing between name statuses, especially in coding. -- Melik el-Al'ab 19:32, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

• Glad to see someone other than me that understands what oxymoron means ^_^. Now, as for the names, there must be a way to integrate the "asterisk" solution in the coding of the card article pages. However, I'm useless in HTML, I only know partial JASS, not useful here.
