Forum:Attack name parameter in CardTable2

This parameter has gone mostly unused until recently, when Special:Contributions/ began to add it a lot of articles, some of which were then reverted via rollback by PoriotH after he left the user a message. See also, this related conversation. What should be done about this parameter? if we're not going to use, it should be removed from Template:CardTable2. If we do decide to use, it we need to decide how. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 23:10, May 26, 2011 (UTC)

For a little bit of history, the attackname parameter was first added to {{CardTable2}} by Deltaneos on October 3, 2009, though (at least as far as I can tell) there was no discussion about it at the time.
Personally, the only real argument against the parameter I can see is the fact that the Japanese and English attack names are so often different. I'm not really sure of the best way to handle that, though I wouldn't have nearly so much problem with dropping the parameter if the attack info was moved to Card Names (that's a bit of a stretch, granted) or Card Trivia pages; otherwise, we need to figure out a better way of handling it in the template; this is one thing I'd love to be able to stuff in an SMW property. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:26, May 28, 2011 (UTC)
Attack names are also usually listed on Card Appearances pages, not Trivia or Names. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 09:20, May 28, 2011 (UTC)
And are also listed on Attack name. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 09:29, May 28, 2011 (UTC)
Cool, really? I didn't actually know that before, since I don't tend to do much work on the card information pages. =D ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:26, May 28, 2011 (UTC)
Now there's a model example of why edit summaries are helpful, particularly on pages with long histories. I'd forgotten I was the one who added that and looking at my other contributions on that day, it was done for the Labyrinth Battle Game cards. e.g. "Gaia the Fierce Knight (Labyrinth)" and "Red-Eyes Black Dragon (Labyrinth)". -- Deltaneos (talk) 18:16, May 30, 2011 (UTC)
Interesting. That's fine, but that doesn't necessarily mean we can't use them for cards as well. We still need to determine if we want to do that or not. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 04:09, June 1, 2011 (UTC)

I'm now convinced we need to stop using the parameter. We do not need edits like this. Can we rename the parameter to something like "lbattack", edit the parameter into the articles it should be in and remove it from the others? Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 00:29, June 19, 2011 (UTC)

Agreed, as ErrataTable2 is blocking any addition Lore/Image/etc. from be including in the box when I "updating" the list, like new card released with new lore, and that card have previous list of cards with their lore included that. Quite annoy. So both need to nuke, not just CardTable. --FredCat 00:36, June 19, 2011 (UTC)

Recently, there have even been users adding fake attack names to articles that they've made up themselves. I'm going to attempt to edit CardTable2 later and replace the parameter with "labbattleattack" or something like that, then edit the Labyrinth Battle articles to use the new parameter. Any objections (or suggestions for a better parameter name)? Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 16:58, November 2, 2011 (UTC)

No objections from me (after all, we pretty well agreed to switch to documenting attack names on the article instead of card pages, didn't we?)... As for the parameter name... Well, no suggestions there either, but I will make known that I don't really like it. =/
Also, to discourage use of it on non-Labyrinth Battle articles, it should probably be explicitly limited to those cards in the template; I can do this after the parameter name change. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 18:35, November 2, 2011 (UTC)
Went with "lbattackname". Go ahead and do that when you get a chance. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 04:07, November 14, 2011 (UTC)
Did it already. I probably should have gone ahead and updated the template myself; the limiting means the parameter rename wasn't necessary (though having it done makes it a bit simpler to set up a tracking category =D ). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:25, November 14, 2011 (UTC)
