Forum:Can we prevent unregistered users from editing?

Is there any way to ban users who haven't actually registered/logged in from editing? Because I'm @#$%ing tired of Wiki vandals. (Plus I hate it when I make an edit to a page and realize I wasn't logged in when I made it. >_>)--Ryusui (talkcontribs) 21:27, February 10, 2012 (UTC)

Not gonna happen, no matter how much support there is for it. Doing that across the whole wiki undermines the very concept of a wiki - "anyone can edit". Pages that have persistent vandalism can be protected temporarily (or permanently in rare cases). If you see such a page, contact an admin. I would also note that there are plenty of IPs that contribute significantly. The Card Appearances pages have been undergoing a great deal of expansion recently and much of it has been from unregistered users. Some people wish to help, but also wish to remain anonymous. Believe it or not, there are probably more positive IP edits here than there are negative ones. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 20:51, February 14, 2012 (UTC)
To add to Cheeses comment, take this Users edits, he's not registered, but he makes great contributions. With that said, there's no need to permanently ban all unregistered users from editing. Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 20:56, February 14, 2012 (UTC)
In add to Cheese's comment; Rulings Articles are often added with no source or vandalism are usually revived and lock up for few hours to day... I had this discuss in the past with Deltaneos once, and lost that battle. We have to let them involving if they don't want to have an account for this site. It's better to let them, like Cheese said... --FredCat 21:08, February 14, 2012 (UTC)
For the record, the Card Rulings namespace is now locked down to prevent anons from editing it, but this is a deviation from the norm because of how our Card Rulings pages work. Similar protection will almost certainly not be enabled for any other namespaces or groups of articles (we do tend to semi-protect articles on upcoming sets to help control rampant speculation and trolling, but it's hardly enforced across all such pages and usually doesn't happen until we've already gotten a few such edits). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 22:05, February 14, 2012 (UTC)

You make unregistered users look good, 24.83.215.20. Though, still feel free to make an account! :D Golden Key (talkcontribs) 13:22, February 15, 2012 (UTC)
24.83.215.20 is User:LastMinute, iirc, experiences lag while logged in, so prefers to edit while logged off.

OK then. For an actual example, let's go with this user. Cheesedude (talkcontribs) 03:40, February 16, 2012 (UTC)
