Forum:Character Trivia

ZEXAL character articles have been receiving a high amount of trivia. I'd like to propose subpages for character trivia. Generally, I dislike trivia being in a bulleted list in an article on a wiki I edit. However, on a wiki I read, but do not edit, the first section I visit on any given page is trivia, since I find it interesting. Any thoughts on this? And yes, I know about this. This isn't really a deletion article. You just want the trivia on a separate page. I don't see any big issues in that and it seems like a fair idea. Plus, I really don't like really long wiki pages. ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 14:04, February 26, 2012 (UTC)
I generally dislike articles having trivia sections. I don't find it encyclopedic to put random facts together instead of use designated sections. While some people create trivia sections with actual useful or interesting information, others will add unnecessary stuff like "She is the only character to [obscure collection of details]", "He bears a striking resemblance to [some character he's not based on (and often doesn't resemble)]" and "He is similar to another character in that [a not so unlikely coincidence]". (Not saying all "only character to" and resemblance trivia is bad.) I prefer integrating the useful information into the article and removing the silly stuff, but understand that some people go to articles not looking for anything in particular and if they just want some quick interesting things they didn't know, they look for trivia sections.
I see what you mean on having different opinions on trivia sections where you read and where you edit. It's useful/interesting VS out-of-place, which is a common argument you'll see between new and experienced Wikipedia editors in their content disputes. Card Tips pages aren't exactly encyclopedic, but we have them because readers find them useful.
Overall, I'd edge more in favour of moving away from adding trivia sections to character articles. -- Deltaneos (talk) 14:13, March 5, 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, I'm only after noticing you saying that you're aware of wikipedia:WP:INTERESTING. You can disregard like 80% of what I just said. -- Deltaneos (talk) 14:15, March 5, 2012 (UTC)
I agree with everything you said. My initial proposal was to use subpages like Yuma Tsukumo/Trivia (or something like that), similar to the card pages. Actually, we could do it like this, too.
Generally, I do find following precedents set by Wikipedia on a wiki to be a good thing, but not all the time. So no, I don't want trivia sections. I generally try to integrate anything I can when I edit. Maybe its just my natural inclination to absorb as much useless info as possible, but I love trivia otherwise. Or just hide them, like the one I saw in other site... --FredCat 15:05, March 5, 2012 (UTC)
I'd have to agree. Trivia's good and all, but if it can be integrated, then there's no need for a Trivia section (I'll probably start doing that down the road at some point). Shardsilver (talkcontribs) 16:13, March 5, 2012 (UTC)

There were no trivia sections in character articles to begin with. After some guy added such section to Yuma's page few months ago, all other users began adding trivia to other characters, including those from ZEXAL series as well as other series. Even if we make some criteria for this, it will be hard to keep relevant trivia. I'm against making separate trivia pages. We should only include function "hide and show" in trivia sections. In my opinion, we need "status quo ante" i.e. removing all character trivia. -- The Goblin  Talk  16:02, March 9, 2012 (UTC)

In truth I very much agree with Aged Goblin. I don't much like character Trivia myself (I don't mind it, but I am still against it as well. Now if it has references to back it up, then it can probably be integrated into the article if good enough). I'm okay with whatever you guys decide.
