Forum:Chat guidelines

Hello everyone. It was discussed a while back that some chat guidelines should be put into place for new users to gain advice from; the idea never seemed to happen. Instead of just creating the guidelines "willy-nilly", I felt a discussion was necessary before the guidelines were created.

Here are my thoughts:

Spongebob456's version[edit]

  • Chat is supposed to be a fun and enjoyable place for users, so be inviting! Give users a welcoming reception; make them feel at home.
  • Try and be polite - If a new user arrives and doesn't understand the concept of chatroom and/or Yu-Gi-Oh!, help them out peacefully. You will find more progress is made that way.
  • Patience is a virtue - If you ask a question, wait patiently for a user to respond; don't harass them. Your answer will be more fruitful with politeness and courtesy.
  • Don't be disruptive - Capitalising (EXAMPLE) will not get you anywhere and isn't particularly inviting for other other users in the chat. Profanity (swearing) also will not get you anywhere and will not set a good example for other users.

I appreciate these ideas are not very well written, but this is only a draft. Your improvements are welcome of course. --Spongebob456 (Talk) 17:09, February 7, 2013 (UTC)

Comments and Suggestions[edit]

Well I think these guidelines are really good, that's what chats are about, right? Chat is to have fun, unlike some wikis I've been to (like Beyblade wiki) where you must have edits to enter or where insulting is okay as long as it's censored. Making the chat a better place, yus!--Let the Number take hold! 17:14, February 7, 2013 (UTC)

Noted. You have to allow a certain amount of freedom in the chat. --Spongebob456 (Talk) 17:16, February 7, 2013 (UTC)
