Forum:Deck Contest 35: Rise of the "Numbers" Mafia

From Yugipedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Forgive me for the odd contest name, but I couldn't really think of an idea for it, so go figure. Anyway, Gadjiltron brought up this idea to me about a day ago, and it had been previously suggested by others, but at the time, the idea just didn't offer much, just a few cards in the world of dueling, but now, almost a year later, we have some options.

This week's theme is to use a "Numbers" card and build your deck around that Number Xyz Monster.

Rules

  • All OCG and TCG cards are fine, as long as it has an effect.
  • This contest will be in September 1st, 2012 Banlist.
  • You may not add/remove any decks from the Registration Area.
  • You will be given maybe 1 day if you are late to post, after that, you're out.
  • Due December 16th, 2012, a Sunday for those you who don't want to count the days.

Registration

Example of Registration

Note that Caius obviously has no place in this contest, and only serves as an example, even if he is pretty cool.

Number Options

Add your name to the Number you'd like to do, only 1 contestant per Number. (Sorry, I know it hurts, but we have a bunch of Numbers!) I wasn't able to add every known Number, but you can request other Numbers if you want.

Comments, Questions?

Go on. Add "Number 69: Heraldry God - Coat of Arms". My friend on DN has seen its potential and utilized it to the max, and it's not necessarily a staple "Number". --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 01:22, December 8, 2012 (UTC)

Thought Heraldry was a Archetype Specific Number, so I didn't add it. My bad. -Dark Ace SP (Talk) 14:40, December 8, 2012 (UTC)

Yeeeahhhhh....so I'm gonna need to upload my decklist on the 17th.MachoCheez (talkcontribs) 06:54, December 17, 2012 (UTC)

But the decklist was due on December 16th, 2012... --TheGallisMan (talkcontribs) 14:55, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
  • Well, I'd like to see the deck, the monster looks BEAST!

So umm... don't let me down! lol
Besides, can't have any fun if you don't play.

TheGallisMan I would like to appoint you to the rules as it says that all participating contestants will be given 1 day to post if you're late and thats it. Hastydemon2 (talkcontribs) 21:54, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
Cheez will get until 10:00 PM later today, -6 GMT. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 23:36, December 17, 2012 (UTC)
Guys, I'm really, REALLY, sorry, but DN is refusing to load on my laptop, and I didn't memorize my decklist. I'll give you the run-down of what it would've been though. It was basically a Hieratic engine with some protection cards for Destiny Leo like Forbidden Lance and Dress. Again, really sorry! MachoCheez (talkcontribs) 02:06, December 18, 2012 (UTC)
Maybe next time Cheez. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:24, December 18, 2012 (UTC)

Decks

Place your deck into the section below, remember to give a short explanation of the deck and how it works.

Number 19: Freezerdon

So Number 19: Freezerdon, Its 1 material can be detatched instead of my other Xyz. An example is you can detatch 1 of Freezerdon's materials instead and 1 other for the effect of Heroic Champion - Excalibur making it a total of 2. With this, THE PERFECT Xyz monster to abuse is Evolzar Laggia.

Everyone have seen the wrath of Laggia last format and he is quite devastating, and that was just usually 1 Laggia at a time. BUT, what if its effect can be activated 2 TIMES? It would be more devastating. But the problem is getting the two of them on the field which this deck does at ease.

So I utilized the minions of Evolzar Laggia, the Evol family. We all know how pretty fast they are at summoning Laggia. An example is summon Evoltile Najasho then activate Evo-Force summoning 2 Dinos from the deck. Its pretty insane and powerful as they are good at searching just what they need through Evoltile Westlo, Evo-Force and Evo-Diversity. Our problem now is summoning Number 19: Freezerdon. With this, Evols will have some unlikely partners, the Wind-Up.

If someone will hear the name "Wind-Up", the first thing that comes into their minds is "the loop" which became dead. Though with the loop gone, Wind-Ups is still very powerful through their fast search and Xyz summoning. They are pretty fast from Rank 3, 4 and 5. With this I utilized 2 Wind-Ups, Wind-Up Soldier and Wind-Up Shark.

By summoning Wind-Up Soldier, I can special summon Wind Up Shark. With their effect activating to make both of them LV5. With this, I can summon Rank 5 Xyz including Freezerdon. Though Wind-Ups aren't the only way I can summon Freezerdon, I also used the ever popular Cyber Dragon and the unlikely Evolsaur Darwino, yep, I also used Evols for Rank 5 plays. By flipping Westlo, I summon Darwino which makes Westlo a lv5 and now you can guess whos coming, Freezerdon.

For the spell line-up, I have discussed some. Some of them are pretty self-explanatory like the staples Monster Reborn and Dark Hole. Evo-Price is there because I always summon using the effects of Evoltile monsters so i get a monster AND i get to destroy a card from my opponent. ROTA can search for Wind-Up Soldier for consistency and Enemy Controller is for Najasho. I can take away an opponent's card AND summon a Dino on deck. Thats pretty good.

My trap line-up is just the Solemn Duo who are self-explanatory themselves. Thank you and hope you like my deck ----SharkTenjo 04:00, December 16, 2012 (UTC)

Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction

Acid Golem of Destruction! Cool name and high ATK, but awful effects. My first deck was some kind of instant Rank 3 Xyz summon deck, I summoned Acid Golem and used Barrel Behind the Door and Spell of Pain to inflict that 2000 damage to the opponent. The major problem with this strategy is that I usually controlled only Acid Golem (as I cannot special summon other monsters). And in this format, the opponent can easily destroy Acid Golem with an effect and attack me directly. I can use a lot of traps to defend myself, but that's a dead strategy in the world of 3 MSTs and Heavy Storm and millions of other destruction effects, not talking about that this strategy works perfectly without Acid Golem, and this is an Acid Golem deck.

So I found this card: Bahamut Shark. Special summon Acid Golem without Overlay units. Aaaaand, give it to the opponent. They will have a monster that cannot attack and blocks their special summons. The deck itslef may seem weird, Hero, Gishki and other random monsters, but belive me, it works pretty well. Actually, this deck is amazing. I can summon at least 1 Xyz monster each turn (Gishki Beast (Ariel is his searcher), Goldfish, Hydrogeddon, Bubbleman and Fenrir, they are all easy Xyz summons). And I don't need more. Xyz summon Bahamut, give the Golem to the opponent, and wait. If they get rid of it, you'll most likely have cards to replace it with another. Six Samurai=DEAD, Wind-up=DEAD, Rabbit=DEAD, Lightsworn=DEAD, Agent=DEAD, TG=DEAD. Dark World is not dead, but their strategy is highly damaged. And not just in case of pretty good hand and lame opponent. Always. This deck is incredibly devastating and also consistent, I won almost all of my duels (DN rated duels, losts of meta decks). Weaknesses: any deck capable of tributing monsters, decks that don't special summon a lot, decks that can utilize their effects without monsters (Decks relying on spells and traps), and most importantly: Skill Drain decks. This explains my spell/trap choices.

The basic S/t line is made agains monsters. My deck's strategy is to lock down monsters and spells are usually used to help monsters. This is why I only use my spells to destroy traps. I answered the question earlier: what kind of decks can beat mine? And all those decks use a lot of traps. This is 1 reason for 3 MSTs, 2 Night Beams and Heavy Storm. Of course, if my Creature Swap/Mystic Box gets negates, I will have that huge useless self-damaging monster on my field instead of my opponent, this is another reason to destroy traps before starting this otherwise risky strategy. And here is Salvage, it helps me to Xyz summon easier, gives me hand advantage.

And my trap line is a lonely card, one of my favourite ones. Kills 2 monsters freely, chainable to anything and gives enough space to non-trap cards. Nephthy (talkcontribs) 11:13, December 16, 2012 (UTC)

Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mech

Well, I've got my hands full tomorrow, so here's my Deck in advance.

When I first saw Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mech's anime version, I thought to myself, this is nuts. There's strong OTK potential in this card when combined with Darkworld Shackles, it'll definitely get a nerf on the way into real life. And then it came into real life edited... only with a more convenient effect timing.

Machu Mech's effect allows it to inflict damage to the opponent equal to the difference between an opponent's modified ATK and its original score, before gaining ATK equal to that amount as well. Because it specifies "modified", it does not discriminate between an increase or decrease, meaning severe damage potential if I somehow reduce an opponent's monster to 0 ATK (or sufficiently close). Thus this Deck focuses on making Machu Mech by using Gagaga Magician and Gagaga Girl, with Gagaga Girl's effect being capable of cutting an opponent's monster to 0 ATK for full utilization of Machu Mech's effect. So to search out the Gagaga duo, Mystic Tomato, Sangan, and Summoner Monk all come into play in getting Gagaga Magician out.

Supposing that the opponent doesn't have a Special Summoned monster, Darkworld Shackles then comes into play to shrink anything to bite size, while also holding them in their original position and preventing them from suiciding off so that I can take my time in making Machu Mech. Because Darkworld Shackles is that important, I end up running Hidden Armory to help search it out. The other possibility is Gagagarevenge to help revive either Magician or Girl a turn later so that I can use the primary Gagaga combo to exploit Machu Mech. And in the off chance that I need neither, it's fodder for Summoner Monk.

There are several other alternate ways in making this very potent Rank 5 monster. Aster Drawn is one of the best Rank 5 makers since it can give itself an extra Level for an Xyz Summon while granting a free card once the Summon is successful. Cyber Dragon makes for an emergency beatstick, anti-Machine tech option, and immediate LV5 all at once. While perhaps not as efficient, Chronomaly Golden Jet can turn itself into LV5 though it suffers in searchability.

When the entire combo goes off at its maximum potential, it deals a grand total of 2400 + double the ATK of the monster I chose to shrink. If I cut a magic 2800 beater (like Dark Armed Dragon, for example) to 0 ATK and get a successful attack in, that spells exactly 8000 damage. Pretty amazing for a Number that has otherwise limited use in general play. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 13:54, December 15, 2012 (UTC)

Number 61: Volcasaurus

Well, this is my first time entering a deck building contest here...
It is certainly not my first time building a deck. I have been playing for many long years now and I have seen this game go through many changes. I remember playing in tournaments where Monarchs were the main and basically only Meta decks to run! Years later, we have Xyz monsters.
For this contest I picked: Number 61: Volcasaurus and here is the deck:

Extra Deck

Monster Cards

I just wanted to take some time to explain the thought process that I went through when building the main deck...
I wanted to make sure the deck was focused on using the main monster I also wanted to make the deck in such a way that the parts and engine of the deck were not greater than it's ultimate product. Basically, I did not want this to become a Wind-Up deck that only added Number 61: Volcasaurus as an after-thought or for that matter a Dark World deck that only added the card as just another option. So, you should not get the idea when playing against the deck that you are facing a Dark World or a Wind-Up deck. You will know for a fact that you are facing a deck that was made to use and "abuse" the power of Number 61: Volcasaurus!

Now to explain some of the odd card choices in the deck...
Necro Gardna: if I get attacked by a bigger monster, I can allow that monster to live then make it explode next turn!
Lava Golem: Why not take out any powerful monsters they have in play and replace it with Lava Golem? Then, blow it up, of course! Along with 3000 direct damage also to boot!
Chaos Sorcerer: I could have splashed in BLS (the envoy!) but, the Mob Boss does not take kindly to anyone trying to take his territory!
Magic Cylinder: Same basic idea... Stop the attack, blow up the offending monster later! Why destroy all the good targets with Mirror Force?
Every other card is part of an engine to put at least 2 level 5 monsters out in to play. I got some basic draw power in the deck to speed it up. I have some basic monster summon negation in the deck just in case I have to get rid of a monster such as Stardust Dragon or anything similar! Obviously if I can't blow up a monster, I'm in trouble.
Of course, I have a few staples as well!

The deck had a few solid victories on Duelist Network (DN) during testing.
The deck always managed a first or second turn summon of Number 61: Volcasaurus The deck seems to do better if I summon my main monster after they summon a big one of theirs. So, sometimes I had to wait and be patient.
I did not need to use direct attacks all that often as the bulk of the damage I did could be done with
Number 61: Volcasaurus of course! Worst case scenario I would do burn damage with my main monster, then risk a finishing blow with another simple beatstick monster. All things considered, I found the deck to be dependable and easy to use.

Now, the Mob Boss needs your vote to become the God Father! Kapeesh?

Number 56: Goldrat

If you haven't already, take a look at my Decklist. It is surprising, no? I love the Deck title, as it fits the theme of this Deck ("Kinka-byo" is a cat, if you haven't noticed) and its strategy.
The main victory condition of this Deck is to stall and wait. Going into a "Shyneet Magician" is great, as you watch your opponent deplete their resources trying to get rid of that and your stall cards. Don't be afraid to take damage! It will all work out in the end (except for maybe your "Messengers" >->). Games mostly start out with you trying to find your footing. You may have noticed this Deck has 43 cards. This is to compensate for the searching it does, and also as fortification while your opponent Decks out. The genius of "Number 56: Goldrat" here is that it gives you NO net advantage, meaning you can use its effect and not be at risk of Decking out. Although you may be afraid of horrible opening hands and topdecks, you will usually end up drawing a stall card the next turn and setting a Normal. (I assume here that you will be Dueling fun Decks.)

By this point, you may be starting to think that this is a stupid idea, and that there is no fun in stalling your opponent. Haha! This Deck has fun tactics to keep you entertained! "Tri-Wight" is your main source of entertainment, as is "Kinka-Byo". Any time you feel like making an aggressive play, go use "Kinka-Byo" (Cat mode!) to bring out a "Copycat" (or Normal Summon it), and use "Tri-Wight" to go into "Baby Tiragon"! DIRECT ATTACK!

During the endgame, you may find that your Graveyard has more monsters in it then you might expect... "Chaos Necromancer" takes its revenge here (especially with those destroyed Xyz Monsters)! Is your opponent trying to hide with Defense Position monsters? "Tri-Wight" into "Number 83: Galaxy Queen" and inflict piercing damage ("Copycat" can also work with this)!

Random good combo = "Where Arf Thou?" + "One Day of Peace" = no damage!... but you must control a Level 1 monster to activate the first card. If your opponent has an empty field (more often than not, with "Dark Hole" and Trap Cards), feel free to Normal Summon Kinka-Byo and poke for tiny damage, before Xyzing into "Shyneet" (Cat to mouse mode). When going for the "Kinka-byo" + "Copycat" + "Baby Tiragon" combo, try to Xyz Summon "Baby Tiragon" with "Kinka-byo" first, so you can keep your "Copycat" on the field. Remember that the effect of "Baby Tiragon" is permanent, and can be used multiple times per turn! "Mira the Giant Star" can help protect your "Copycat" from destruction card effects at times (Pssst! Keep in mind that "Chaos Necromancer"!).

The main allure of this Deck is to see (or imagine) the look on your opponent's face as you continue to bring out Normal Monsters, and keep poking them for damage. Keep in mind that this Deck is just to fit the mouse theme, and the Normal Monsters can easily be replaced with "Flamvell Guard" and other high DEF Level 1 Normals. Maybe experiment with "Triangle Power"? Or add/remove tech cards of your choice! I gladly invite you to experiment with this Deck and Duel other fun Decks with it (but give license where it is due >->). Keep these tactics and options in mind when you submit your vote! --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 08:33, December 17, 2012 (UTC)

Number 91: Thunder Spark Dragon

Number 91: Thunder Spark Dragon. The Number card of the Hunder family. Pahunder and Mahunder are small enough to pass over Bottomless Trap Hole and each summon another Thunder Monster to the field, enabling to Xyz Summon easily. Pahunder and Mahunder can be combined to unleash 3, 4, even 5 or more Monsters onto the field at once! Sishunder does also grant access to a Rank 4 Xyz, but if you have another member of the family in the Graveyard, she’ll send them on a quick errand to the Banished pile, then call them back to hand during the End Phase, a highly effective +1 for planning future moves. A bonus here is that Sishunder’s effect during the End Phase will resolve even if she is used for Xyz Material, removed from the field or flipped facedown. Spirit Converter, like Seahorse, grabs two Thunder Monsters of the same name from the Graveyard and is combined with Safe Zone to protect the Xyz Monsters and that they have to live long enough to use all of their Materials. Thunder Seahorse boost the hand size. Batteryman AAA is a valuable Seahorse target, can be Normal Summoned by Mahunder and/or Pahunder to summon a second AAA from the Graveyard, send by Foolish Burial before. With that, the Rank 4 options are even more extensive; drop an Xyz that requires 3 Xyz Materials, or even drop multiple Xyz Monsters at once! For some Beatdown besides Thunderking Rai-Oh, there are Constellar Omega with a built-in Forbidden Lance and Radiant Photon Paradios who negates the effect of an opponent's Monster, reduces the ATK to 0 ATK and you can draw 1 card if he is sent to the Graveyard. A well timed Honest will end games quite often. --TheGallisMan (talkcontribs) 16:58, December 16, 2012 (UTC)

Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction

  • UltimateKuriboh - At first, I thought "Fenrir" was a lousy choice. Now I see why. Kudos to you, for easily bringing out "Bahamut Shark" for the combo.

Number 33: Chronomaly Machu Mech

  • User:Number Hunter Sorry, I just love Chronomalies so much, and seeing someone make good use of Machu Mech is something I can't resist.

Number 61: Volcasaurus

Number 56: Goldrat

  • Gadjiltron - I'm going to have to give points to him for designing a workable deck while retaining its theme flavour-wise. However, there are a few anomalies that I can't help but ask about. Why Armored Rat?
    • (UltimateKuriboh here) That was a mistake. I explained on the talk page.
  • Ace - Come on, he used Level 1 monsters to make a cool fun deck. Which is in the full spirit of the contest, and the bloody mice were cute, well Volcanic Rat was. Give the man some credit here, it ain't east to do stuff with Level 1 monsters. Note: I had a hard time choosing, there were a bunch of cool decks, and I wanted to vote for them all, but I only have 1 username, and voting for more than 1 person wouldn't make sense. Keep on making cool decks people, it's what the duelist's soul lives for.
  • AceCloudKicker - Well, what can I say? You took on a challenge and you came out smelling like a rat??

(we are talking about the pet variety here) lol
Anyway, looks good for a deck with all Level 1 critters. Creative and I know I could not have done any better. So, yeah... kudos!
