Forum:Deck Contest 49: Best of Times

2013's been a rather eventful year for Yugioh. We kicked off with LTGY and experienced some shining examples of bad card design. Mild nostalgia was rekindled as Synchros made a sudden comeback since the 5D's era. Confusion ensued when the banlists split between the TCG and OCG after a few years' effort in reuniting both sides of the game.

As the year draws to a close, we, once again, look back on cards debuting through the year and pick out any notable single cards/sets that we didn't cover. While we're at it, do also take the time to discuss any significant event that happened in Yugioh's 2013 timeline.

And since we're so close, we'd might as well apply the upcoming banlist rather than stick with the current one.

Guidelines

  • All OCG and TCG cards are fine, as long as it has been released proper.
  • Deck must be in Template:Decklist.
  • This contest will be in January 1st, 2014 TCG Banlist.
  • You will be given maybe 1 day if you are late to post, after that, you're out.
  • Deck submissions will open on 1st January 2014 and close on 8th January 2014.

Comments? Questions? Complaints?

What did you mean by released proper? Does this mean that the card must have already been released, or just that the effect must be confirmed? Pretty sure I know the answer to this, but I want to be 100% sure before I make my deck. --Dark Ace SP (Talk) 05:09, December 24, 2013 (UTC)

As with every other Deck Contest, it means that the card has been in print. --Gadjiltron (talkcontribs) 14:18, December 24, 2013 (UTC)

I've tried Binging the new ban-list, but couldn't find it. Does anyone know where it is? Thanks! Chromace (talkcontribs) 10:53, December 24, 2013 (UTC)

Chromace's Deck

Great minds think alike...Forum:Syllable Deck. Sorry. Couldn't help myself. Anyway...

With Nikitama introduced to a Spirit deck, XYZ summons can be performed. Not only does this expand this archetype's versatility, but it allows the activation of the flaming green ball's second effect at a later time, a loss-less detach. This can also be achieved by tributing it for Dark Dust Spirit, which is always fun. Aratama provides the deck with a lot more stability, having the ability to search out almost any monster from this kind of deck (especially useful when Rasetsu is the only solution to an overpowered XYZ/Synchro).

Since there is a little more of an emphasis on XYZ summons, a few cards were selected to support that. Most of the ones that this archetype has access to are very generic (no surprise there), so backup in the form of other Spirits is a must. Yaksha and Rasetsu are both excellent for this, allowing heavier hitting monsters to attack with more impunity. There are also a few Synchros up this deck's sleeve, but will not see much play (apart from Rose Dragon, if both Yamato and Veiler are available). Furthermore, Tragoedia can be used to supplement both processes.

And if all else fails...curl up into a ball and tough it out (and then attempt to annoy the heck out of anyone up against you). Marshmallon is this deck's best friend, tied with Battle Fader for a temporary defense. Soon enough, a turnabout, in the form of Rasetsu or Dust Spirit (or something else entirely) will show up (Aratama is a blessing in these situations). Either that or just chip away at the opponent with Inaba White Rabbit. Then there's Creature Swap, doubly mean in a Spirit Deck, as it leaves the opponent with one less monster, instead of a fair trade.

Thanks for reading! Chromace (talkcontribs) 11:25, January 7, 2014 (UTC)

Lol, forgive the funny deck name, it's a cross between Gagaga and Dododo.

Which is what this deck is focused on. I chose to work with Onomatopair for this competition. It's an interesting little card which lets you search up to two monsters from two different archetypes. You get to choose from four archetypes: Gagaga, Dododo, Gogogo and Zubaba. I looked at them, but at first it didn't look like any of them worked well with each other. Then I found an interesting decklist which combines dododo with gagaga (albeit without onomotopair), so I decided to try my own version.

Basically this deck is made for Xyz summoning using dododos and gagagas, with onomatopair searching for them. Witch can summon driver, whose effect can allow for a rank 5 summon. Witch can also summon gasser. If you have mythic water dragon in your hand, you can summon it with its own effect and overlay gasser with it for a rank 8 summon (you can also combo Water Dragon with Gagaga Caesar). Or you can summon gasser face down and wait until you get Water Dragon or Gagaga Magician for a rank 8 summon. You can also pitch gasser with trade-in for some draws, then banish it for gagaga caesar's effect. And if you do that and have gagaga child in your hand, you can summon Child with its effect and have it match caesar's level. Summoner Monk, Tin Goldfish and Goblindbergh can all help summon witch, magician, driver, caesar (only in goblindbergh's case) and each other, which will allow for rank 4 summons. I also included Zenmaines and Leviair in case I need them. They can be made with caesar + child, or witch + driver. Finally, there's the typical staple spells and traps. Reinforcements can search out Witch, Driver, Caesar or Goblindbergh. Call of the Haunted gives me more options for xyz summoning.

So there you are, my attempt to make gagaga and dododo work together with onomatopair. I hope you like this deck, and happy voting!

I suppose there's no point in me and chromance voting, as we would have to vote for the other. Moja619 (talkcontribs) 16:39, January 8, 2014 (UTC)
