Forum:Deck Contest 7: Two Heads Are Better Than One?

From Yugipedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Welcome to the 7th deck competition. We are launching this one early, so that users can form an alliance and coordinate. The focus of this competition is for two (2) users to form a tag-team, and build their own decks. Those users may communicate only with each other on their decks. Try to combine strategy with your partner for the ultimate tag-team. Please list yourselves as a team below.

Now, for some more in-depth info. First of all, you can't do the same deck; that would be silly (Double GBs are too powerful). The idea is to do 2 decks that complement each other. As for the team dueling rules, see here (Team Dueling Rules) but with one difference; each player has 8000 life points, as opposed to a pool. And no player can attack their first turn.

A maximum of 8 tag-teams (16 contestants in all) will be allowed. Registration deadline is Wednesday, and if those spots are not taken, then we will go with what we have. Decks should be posted this weekend.

Q&A

Will we me dueling each other via IRC/Duel Terminal with these decks? --Trivi-AM 18:36, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

  • No, the decks are going to be voted on to see which two work together the best. It would be too hard to schedule an online tourney, let alone a tag-team one. Messengerofthedark 18:42, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

I have a general question about a tag team duel. Say, player A has a Lightsworn deck and mills at the end phase, does the partner also have to mill?Jetronix 02:14, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

  • No, only the controller of the Lightsworn monster must mill. Messengerofthedark 05:02, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

--Will the team player have the same field?grave?etc.?

Jampong 09:51, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

  • From how I see it, the teams each have their own fields and graves. There should be further elaboration in the official Tag Duel rules. --Gadjiltron 10:25, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

--Is there a section here w/ Tag Duel Rules?

Are OCG cards permitted? Goldenratt 13:53, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

  • OCG and TCG exclusives permitted. --Gadjiltron 14:26, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
  • When can we post our decks????

  • Here it is!!!The decks Airbellum and I created,a VOLCANIC/FLAMEVELL DECK.As you can see,we thought of 2 different archtypes that has almost the same theme or same purpose. We first tought of a Zombie Synchro/Lightsworn decks, until we knew that each player will have seperate fields. And then we thought of a Zombie/Skill Drain Deck, but it's kinda hard. Then I suggest the Volcanic/Flamevell,there we agree. And here they are!!!Hope you like what we've done.Behalf of my partner, these is it.

Goldenratt and Trivi-AM's Death From Above!

Hi guys, these our decks hope you like :). The stratedgy behind our deck(s) is based around Dark Simorgh and summoning him to prevent spells and traps from being set and then attacking for the win, with plenty of removal cards to maintain field advantage. As we both use plenty of Winged Beasts Icarus Attack is a must, since it's an instant 2 for 1 and it can help clear away those annoying Dark Armed Dragon's if we happen to be facing one. Harpies' Hunting Ground gives us more spell/trap removal, as does Battlestorm who can make a great beatstick given the large amount Winged Beasts we have. Blackwings, obviously, have their ridiculously broken synchro/special summon abilities giving us acces to cards like Dark Strike Fighter, Dark End Dragon, and other broken synchros. The Harpies give us the ability to increase the power of most of our monsters, also they provide great beatsticks and have good field control. So vote for me (Triv) and Goldenratt.

The Frog Prince - Messengerofthedark and Runer5h

Messengerofthedark and I decided to do Frog Monarchs. It makes sense; Treeborn Frog has always been used in Monarch control decks, but the beauty of putting them in separate decks is that MotD (the Monarch user) can devote more of his resources to Monarchs because I (the Frog user) am providing tribute material.

Basically, the deck is about giving Messenger lots of tribute material for Monarchs. I've got all sorts of neat froggy tricks for this deck.

First of the Frogs is Ogre Frog, from SOVR. Dumping Treeborn Frog, special summoning itself, and allowing for additional normal summons in a single turn; that's good. Oh, Treeborn made it in too. And next comes Mother Grizzly, to search out any Frog I need. Submarine Frog is a beatstick (so to speak). Substitoad is a prerequisite of Frog decks; it can cycle through the deck and is a great searcher with a protection effect added in. Dupe Frog can create some nice locks - ever been subjected to the Dupestitoad Lock? - and can also search the deck. The last Frog, Flip Flop, is just really useful, opening the field up for direct attacks. Then, Cyber Dragon lends some much-needed beatdown power to the deck and is a free summon, and Fishborg Gunner is a nice tuner and another special-summonable monster.

For spells, there's Pot of Avarice, which can be instantly used with the help of Substitoad. Monster Reborn, Trunade and MST are obvious. Lightning Vortex can control a swarm. Book of Moon can protect some of the more vulnerable Frogs, and allow Submarine Frog to actually kill something. Finally, One for One can bring out Substitoad on the first turn if necessary, or Fishborg Gunner for a Synchro summon.

For traps, there's Mirror Force and Froggy Forcefield as 2 attack blockers. Bottomless protects vulnerable Frogs. Graceful Revival, meanwhile, can special summon any monster in the deck except Cyber Dragon and Mother Grizzly for quick tribute fodder. Finally, Waboku protects my Frogs from OTK pushes. There's also a low-leveled extra deck, because of the low levels of my monsters.

Now for MotD's deck; Lineage of Jiraiya! Explained in the words of Messenger.

(For those who don't understand the title, click on the name in it, it is a link that will explain.) This deck is the main powerhouse behind the team, providing beatstick monsters with powerful effects. Most important are the Monarchs. They provide strong, single tribute monsters that are easy to use with Runer's Frogs.

I'll start with the traps. Solemn, Bottomless, and Wrath are pure necessity, as they are powerful, multi-use cards. The abundance of low attack DARK monsters makes CCV a very usable card, especially with Mask of Darkness to help recycle it, or anything else that will help. Waboku and Threatening help to ensure that our monsters won't be downed in battle before we can make our move. And just in case, Limit Reverse can bring back many a total of 8 monsters, which is huge for -1000 attack monsters, especially when they are good for sending to the grave. Ultimate Offering can speed up the Monarch summoning process big time, letting me use it to summon a Monarch during my opponent's turn, and possibly foiling their plan. But the most important traps are By Order of the Emperor and Grave of the Super Ancient Organism. Order can make sure that I don't hurt either myself or my partner by just negating their effect, and turning it into a draw. Grave works amazingly well, considering all of the monsters of regular use in our decks are lv 6 or lower, effectively protecting us from Judgment Dragon and Dark Armed Dragon.

But with all of the powerful Synchros that I can access, Grave must be removed somehow. And Trunade and MST are great at that, more so the former than the latter. I figured Heavy Storm was too dangerous in this deck, with all of the continuous traps, I opted for MST. Monster Reborn can summon any monster to use as tribute fodder for a Monarch, or to bring forth a fallen Monarch. Allure is standard draw for a largely based Dark deck, and Sarcophagus moves any two cards safely to my hand, which when played right, hurts my opponent terribly. Vortex is standard monster removal, and Double Summon can replicate Ultimate Offering, for a potential 1st turn Monarch. Soul Exchange can tribute an opponent's monster, and deal a second blow with their effect, making most useful with Kuraz, but great for any Monarch.

But, the namesake of this deck is the Monarchs, including one of each, and two of the best, Kuraz, Caius, and Raiza. They are the most devastating, but aren't alone in the assault. Breaker makes a decent attacker, but is best when removing spells and or traps. The deck is laden with low attack monsters, making them great for Limit Reverse, but also have deck manipulating abilities, especially when they are sent from the field to the grave, perfect for a double-whammy if tributed for a Monarch. Unfortunately, the Monarchs boast a top attack of 2400, so to compensate, Tuners Krebons, Dark Tinker, and Sinister Sprocket can help to bring out an array of Synchros, which specialize in everything from field clearing to protection to destruction to attack boosting. Krebons also can hold its own with its attack negating effect, keeping itself around for a Monarch. But the best is Necro Gardna. Even if the monster on the field isn't Krebons, it will be safe thanks to Necro. All in all, this deck doesn't rely entirely on my partner, rather, it is supported by him, and allows him to run his own strategies.

Tell us what you think of these concept decks. Runer5h 16:23, 1 August 2009 (UTC)Runer5h

Final Destination - Gadjiltron and Jetronix

Greetings all, Gadjiltron and Jetronix here presenting an uncanny mix of Dark Simorgh and Secret Village.

Gadjiltron's Deck:

Jetronix's Deck:

Basically, most Dark Simorgh Lockdowns suffer from their own Anti-Spell Fragrance as it locks out their spells for one turn, and Secret Village decks running Decree are unable to play many traps as well. So, Dark Simorgh here is mainly to prevent the opponent from setting traps, while Secret Village locks out the opponent from playing any Spells. This usually leaves for one last weakness, which would lie in monster effects. Forbiden Chalice would hence be there to shut off any monster effects that threaten the lock.

The main aim for Dark Simorgh would be to dump monsters quickly, either from the hand or through Synchro Summoning. This is the main reason why there are quite a few Blackwings in the Deck. With Gale and Soldier of Mist Valley being the prime Tuners, LV7 or LV8 Synchros are very easy, whilst also filling the Graveyard for Dark Simorgh. Escape can also fetch removed Gales for a second Synchro Summoning, or pull out any Simorghs removed, either for allure or the other Simorghs' costs.

The Secret Village Deck is largely based around most spellcaster-based antimeta elements. Kycoo removes monsters from the Grave, Raioh functions as a beatstick and counter-Synchro monster, and in the meantime Summoner Monk can fetch Flamvell Magical for a quick LV8 Synchro.

In case either deck is in a pinch, they have their respective Counter-Spell or Counter-Trap cards that would help hold the line until the lock is set up.

No Spells, no Traps, and the players are not affected by these drawbacks. Final Destination. --Gadjiltron 04:01, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Macro Monarch Mega Mill:Dragonty08 And D.Kaiser

Basically this deck mills and removes.A typical mill deck. A lot of staples this deck combos with kaisers macro deck for a huge Gren Maju Da EizaLots of S/S with D.D.R. and Return. The Ideas for the deck came from taking out useful searchers, crippling Lightsworn,Hurting Synchro cat and all around versatility. Here's Kaisers

This Deck Screams "I NEED A BEATSTICK!!!" and with a allied mill deck it gets just that.Monarchs add a nice competitive flair to the deck. This deck also adds versatility to the duo and does what the mill deck couldn't do regulary. Dragonty08 01:16, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Countdown to Release: Swaggs and Mr. XXX

Swaggs's Deck

Mr. XXX's deck

Our decks cover both the Final Countdown and the Exodia theme. The main strategy is to stall long enough to draw the pieces of Exodia or if that fails, play Final Countdown to put pressure on the opponent. Both decks are Dark-themed to include Allure of Darkness for drawing power.

For the Final Countdown deck, most stall cards are prioritzed here to draw out the full potential of Final Countdown. Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive is there for draw power while also comboing with Black Salvo to pull out Dark Strike Fighter to bypass the stall cards. Ally of Justice Cyclone Creator is used to bounce unwanted stall cards or the opponent's cards back to the hand as well as being another tuner to tune with. Doomcaliber Knight and Divine Wrath are used to shut down opposing monster effects and destroy potential cards that can destroy the stall cards.

For the Exodia deck, the Manticore draw engine and other methods of drawing are prioritized to draw for Exodia ASAP. Cyber Valley, Defense Draw, Upstart Goblin and Reckless Greed are examples for drawing another way. Dark World Dealings and Foolish Burial are intended to put Manticore of Darkness into the graveyard. Gold Sarcophagus and Emissary of the Afterlife are used to search out Exodia pieces specifically. Finally, Dark Bribe is used to shut down spells and traps that could destroy the stall cards.

Together, the decks combine a stall and draw strategy which can be hard to stop if the spells and traps are not taken care of immediately. If one method gets shut down, the other will succeed. Which one will be your demise? Swaggs 05:54, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Poll & Comment

<poll>Which duo gets 2 thumbs up? Runer & MotD Goldenratt & Trivi-AM Jampong & Airbellum Swaggs & User:Mr. XXX Jetronix & Gadjiltron </poll>

  • Don't forget to put comments on the discusion page.

*Disqualtification: Sorry to be late, but DragonTy and Kaiser have been disqaulified for being nearly a week too late on entry, and entry after entering closed. The deadline was last weekend, when I sent mine to Runer because I was about to have no internet for a short period of time. When I returned Thursday, everyone had submitted, except the two mentioned. I created the poll, and closed the contest. Then, they added themselves. The conteset says that those who enter too late, are disqualified. Messengerofthedark 16:25, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
