Forum:Differences between the OCG and TCG Rarities

Can someone explain me why there are so much differences in rarity between OCG and TCG cards in the latest sets ? A good example is in Abyss Rising where Abyss-sphere was a Common in OCG but in TCG it has become a Ultra Rare/Ultimate Rare. Making money aside, I just don't get why.. I remember seeing topics about the same thing, but with cards like Battle Fader, Mirror Force, Dark Armed Dragon, Solemn Warning, Plaguespreader Zombie, Pot of Duality and Effect Veiler. -Falzar FZ- (talk page|useful stuff) 04:07, October 25, 2012 (UTC)
Making money aside, it's because they want to make more money. Golden Key (talkcontribs) 12:09, October 25, 2012 (UTC)
Also, if I might add, the Mermail/Atlantean deck in the OCG is really good, and by making all the Mermail stuff for the deck in ABYR rare, they will sell more packs of ABYR (Probably more boxes as those give you more rares), and thus they increase their profit margin. While it may just seem like a corporation trying to line its pockets, that's part of the beauty of the free market system. Don't worry, the prices will fall slightly for the individual cards if the deck doesn't do well (Totally unlikely), or if the cards are placed on the banlist on March 1st, 2013. -Dark Ace SP (Talk) 12:38, October 25, 2012 (UTC)
Funny thing, I just pulled "Dark Mirror Force" from LCYW two days ago as Rare, when it used to be Ultra Hard to pull in the past. Mermail and stuffs related to them are godly popular in the game so Konami decided to boost them up so they can get moar money, like other users said, to create moar hardass themes in future, if possible. --iFredCat 13:01, October 25, 2012 (UTC)
Fred, do you mean to say that since they made the Mermails really hard to pull, that Konami will strategically place certain Mermail cards in upcoming sets, like tins and stuff? ---Dark Ace SP (Talk) 02:16, October 26, 2012 (UTC)
To be honestly, Konami loved to making the archetype's bosses harder to pulling, such as Mermail Abyssmegalo. --iFredCat 02:17, October 26, 2012 (UTC)
